I mean, Mihawk was the first Warlord we saw, he literally decimated an entire fleet without even trying. So it was basically instilled within us the power of having a large crew vs being the pinnacle of sword mastery. We didn't need to question it because Mihawk answered a question we didn't even know needed to be asked.

True but then we were introduced to the Warlords and after that especially it caused many people to completely discount Mihawk because - to be honest - while the Warlords are strong their power level is not nearly impressive enough to describe how strong Mihawk must be. This guy literally served(s) as Shanks' rival when it comes to combat ... like come ON. But I blame OP for not somehow driving his power home more, I cant wait till we get to actually see MIhawk let completely loose and Oda unleashes his full glory. Edit: I wonder how g5 Luffy compares to Mihawk. I mean of course I am pretty certain he would beat MIhawk - unless MIhawk is somehow even stronger than Kaido. But still I'd like to see it. All he had to do was stay on the animal and he would’ve gotten to his intended destination, the top of a mountain. Thank you for this! I always thought it was so out of character for Zoro and Mihawk to be have Zoro train under Mihawk, but with Mihawk realizing that having relationships and throwing away you own selfish needs to help protect the dreams of others was something I didn’t even realize until I saw this video. That was ultimately the decision to train Zoro in the first place. This is amazing! I do hope we get to see more of Mihawk has he’s so mysterious in his own right that I would love to see more of him. I still would love to see a Zoro vs Mihawk rematch.

Yes! You need Haki to be a strong swordsman. What sepates him from Shanks is most likely the CoC. There could possibly be other ways to use CoC in the future (Hell, there already are! Like Kaido and Big Mom's natural impenetrable bodies are a product of CoC coating and also coating armament with CoC to increase damage). Possibly even more! I really like how Oda is now starting to expound on the CoC concept.

Nowhere in the story is it said that Shanks is the strongest in Haki power.(He might be the stronger Haki master out of the 4 Emperors and this might be proven in the future) Why can't they both be proficient in Haki but be masters at different specializations. Mihawk could be a master in armament and observation but still has high level CoC while Shanks is the CoC master and has high level armament and observation. They could both be masters in all fields of Haki with the only difference is usage like Shanks being very versatile with all three (these are my headcannon until proven in the story otherwise). Spoiler: Shanks was mentioned in the Kaido dialogue of one of the pirates that could defeat him (might be the reason why you think Shanks is stronger Haki wise which is justified) but who is to say Mihawk can't? Those mentions were based on experience by Kaido from the pirates He himself have fought. Since he hasn't fought Mihawk of course he wouldn't include him although Mihawk is strong or atleast strong enough to be Shanks rival in duels.

In the Ace novel when he thought Ace sought him out to fight his first instinct was to grip his sword and lastly his only confirmed duels are with the WORLD'S STRONGEST SWORDSMAN. He even split the sky in his clash with WB the same as Rodger vs WB so we know he uses Conquerors coating. I have this feeling that Mihawk is secretly the Red Haired Pirates 2nd in command. The relationship Shanks has with Mihawk is very different to the usual rivalries you see among the top pirates. Even Roger and Whitebeard still had their own way. But Shanks and Mihawk, the way they act around each other is more like they have probably made a deal in the past and are looking forward to finally accomplish it. They both are very similar in some aspects. They both mentored someone with the goal of been overtaken by them eventually. Luffy and Zoro. Now that Mihawk is no longer a Shichibukai, i am sure once we start the Post-Wano Arc where the news reach the entire world. We will see Shanks and Mihawk together. Mihawk having gotten rid of the Marines going against him sees that Shanks was there in the case he needed help. Mihawk tells him his worries are unecessary. And that technically he's now back to been a regular Pirate. That's when Shanks asks him. Why don't you finally join our crew? Mihawk realizing that the time for his duel with Zoro is closing in, smiles and accepts Shanks invitation. That's when Mihawk tells Shanks that he's far more cruel that he imagined. Shanks says, that he's just happy for Luffy. But the time has come for Luffy to overcome him, but he won't go down easy. After all, Luffy needs to prove him he's the one Roger is waiting. Besides, knowing the final war is coming, why the hell not? Let's also aim to become Pirate King.

I believe Mihawk is actually several hundret years old, and the "wine" he is drinking is actually blood. Hence why he doesn't have any crewmembers anymore. When you mentioned how they treat swordplay as a religion of sorts, I had remembered a scene from when Zoro fought Mr 1, and Mr 1 said you shouldn't think of him a a swordsman because he has many ways to fight. And Zoro seemed frustrated that he was struggling with someone who doesn't even aspire to be a swordsman. I am probably only partially remembering a bad translation...and it isn't about Mihawk, but I just love how revered swordsmanship is and how much respect its given, considering that most of the great swordmen are pirates. They appear as pirates that are using swords to most people, but they are truly swordsmen who have become pirates

I think there are some points here where you totally misunderstand Mihawk and his character. Mihawk didn't leave the war because Shanks was either stronger or weaker than him. It's because he didn't want to fight a friend. Mihawk does not see the fact that Shanks lost his strong sword arm as a disrespect to their rivalry. He was just disappointed about losing a sparring partner he truly acknowledges. I think you are reaching into it for a story arc as well. I do not think that Mihawk didn't know/acknowledge the power of having people fight with you, because if so he would definitely mock Shanks about his crew. Mihawk just prefers being alone and he is okay with that. He prefers being alone but doesn't totally avoid company i.e with Shanks. Also the fact that he was just bored and decided to hunt down Don Krieg was pretty normal. Why is he a selfish swordsman who lives for himself over that? He was just bored and wanted some fun. Heck, Luffy and Zoro does that. If they spot someone strong they are typically up for a challenge for fun. I think Mihawk is a pretty simple character and doesn't need all these character arcs and ideas put into him.

I feel mihawks disappointment in shanks for losing his arm is pretty blatant in the way that he talks to shanks. Mihawk used to not think much of being bonded with other people and was pretty intolerant to the way other swordsman would act if it wasn’t just about them being a swordsman. However I think when he wanted to test whitebeards stregth that is when he relised his true power and it was not some insane physical feat or a crazy display of vigor, no he recognizes whitebeards true stregth is the bonds he formed with his family. Skip to when zoro asks mihawk for help and he at first is disappointed that one of his potential rivals would so such a pittyful act but once he learned it was for someone else he reconsidered because he was curious himsellf in how important a bond can really be to a person and you start to see him open up more rather than the start of the show where he would of never done a act like this but after he saw whitebeards/luffys true stregth he realized that maybe he should try to have more connections and closer with others even if they don’t have his exact ideology, this was why he was willing to train zoro and let persona stay on the island with him.

Haki is a part of swordsmanship. If Shanks was stronger than Mihawk because of his haki then Shanks would be the real strongest swordsman and Mihawk would be a fraud. I deeply believe there's some other factor to it. "Mihawk is called the strongest swordsman and shanks fights with a sword, hence mihawk > shanks" this just doesn't sound right. Roger used a sword too so mihawk > roger?

Great analysis. Thank you for another great video. I thought that Mihawk recognized Zoro as a strong one because when Zoro asks to be killed, then he smiles, just like Roger did. Mihawk was at Rogers execution and saw him smiling when he died. Zoro did the same. I have always found interesting how Roger was introduced to us. He enters and exits the first chapter at his execution with his death. Zoro gets the same entrance. He is on a cross suffering from hunger like Jesus. For me Oda clearly wanted to show that Zoro and Roger are powerful and strong characters. And perhaps Zoro's story also ends with his execution. He is the only one who has a reason to go back to Loguetown. He got Kitetsu III for free and since he is honourable, then he will for sure give it back to the shopowner when he is going to die. Mihawk and Shanks are truly interesting characters and I can't wait to see what their real story is and if Mihawk will fight for Zoro. 😁

Clips, Zoro has never shown Conquers Haki in both Pre-Timeskip and Post-Timeskip Era like Shanks has, and Zoro is never going to have Conquers Haki, but Zoro definitely had the strongest Armament Haki next to Mihawk out of all the swordsmen Mihawk has fought over the years, so yes the analysis of Zoro vs Mihawk is somewhat truthful in this video.

i like the analysis and in my opinion what makes the yonkou a yonkou is the strength of the overall team and not just the individual. this is why even though mihawk may be possibly be stronger than shanks from a combat perspective, shank is still more powerful than mihawk because of his team and overall influence. mihawk being a lone wolf is what makes him weaker than shanks, big mom and kaido. mihawk realizes this and he also realized that in luffy, which is why he said luffy has the most terrifying ability in the seas to turn all his enemies into allies that are willing to die for him.

@@TheDangerousMale really? For me BB is by far the weakest. Just barely over "1st commanders" and that is with the gura gura. BB doesn't give that power vibe to me. He feels like evil and powerful version of Usopp. Maybe I'm wrong but until I see it, BB is the 5th one in the Younko, lol. That doesn't mean I don't think he is a threat though but him being underhanded and using short term and long term tactics to overcome the monsters is what I feel BB is.

BB seemed to have defeated Marco pretty handily, and Marco is probably one of the strongest 1st commanders.

He is disappointed in shanks for throwing away his sword arm. He is even disappointed in Zoro for begging. Both Shanks and Mihawk are swordsmen and theres a reason why Mihawk is called the strongest Swordsman.

A theory I heard recently which I totally believe is that Mihawk is a part of the redhair pirates. I mean he could like to be alone thus has no crew, but how comes that a pirate has no boat and ESPECIALLY no flag? Shanks should know what one piece is since he was in Roger's crew, and he could want a spy in the world government to know what the world government plans, especially because Mihawk respects shanks like no other, i mean he said "I agreed to fight whitebeard, but I didn't agree to fight the red haired, that's why I go". Also after he met luffy, he immediately went to shanks thus he knows his location. Also the theory I got this from is that Vista is blackbeards true vice (far too much to explain in this comment, just take this as it is) and there on a coverpage they showed the vs of red haired vs bb pirates, shanks and bb in the middle, yassop vs van augur... And there ws one guy less from the red haired pirates than blackbeard pirates

He is strong and wasnt recruited straight to marine so he really does have an outlaw/pirate background. my best guesses. 1. Like weevil, Mihawk is labeled as outlaw just because of bloodline. and he is actually alone. 2. He was an underling on a pirate crew. i wanna say he is a captain and he lost his crew like they are dead or properly disbanded. but Mihawk dont seem to be the leader type. Every Leader in one piece world got that charismatic leader vibe.
