Great video Emma! I am also an ESL teacher in China and have been trying to help my students with the pronunciation of words with double vowels like the words appreciate , associate, biology, create, evaluate, enthusiasm, geography, and so on. Most Chinese students and even Filipino people who are considered English speaking people, seem to have difficulties pronouncing words with the ia, io, ea, ua, eo, vowel combination and they pronounce them like to seperate words for example the word pronunciation, they say pronunci ation, so they sound the a instead of linking the i and the a together which sounds like yaytion, and biography they sound it like bi ography they sound the O instead of linking the the i and o together to sound like yography, and create they sound it cre ate by sounding the a instead of linking the e and a together to sound yeyte.

Hello from Brazil! I'm an English teacher here and I use the IPA for teaching the English sounds. It's true that brazilians tend to speak the -tion like you said! I always warn them (as in our language we speak every letter in a word). Really nice video. I love when natives speakers give us feedback about the importance of the IPA as, unfortunately, no English school here teaches this way. Pronunciation is much more easier when you understand the sounds of English. Thx!

Thank you, Emma. An enthusiastic and energetic delivery. I too hear many of these mispronunciations and think that your tips will be very useful in helping me to help others learn our sometimes illogical language. I must say that you made me smile at around 13mins in, when you ask viewers to close their eyes and listen to the sound and then asked if they noticed the movements that you were making with your mouth. Overall, a polished and personal performance. I look forward to watching more of your videos and recommending your channel to my students. Well done, Allan.
