So, the farmer, teacher and preacher died in the accident. Before the preacher passed on, he handed the Bible which was soaked in his blood to the hooker. The way I read the song is that hooker turned her life around, found redemption and had a son to who she would read the Bible. That son became the preacher and told the story Randy is signing about. This song gets to me every time I hear it.

I have always interpreted this song as a life lesson. The farmer, the teacher, and the preacher had all left their mark on the world. The hooker hadn't yet. She was spared to finish what God put her on Earth to do. She read that Bible to her son, and inspired him to serve the Lord. " It's not what you take when you leave this world behind you. It's what you leave behind you when you go. " I hope to leave many good memories and lots of love in the hearts of my family.

Really well said, Shirley. I agree with you. I do think there's a secondary message as well, though, and I'd love to hear your thoughts. If you notice, the farmer left his love for growing things to his son. One person. The teacher left her wisdom in the minds of lots of children. Lots. A classroom full? 30? But the preacher, through the hooker and her son, impacted a whole church full of people... hundreds? thousands? Not sure, but I think the secondary message is that God's word has the ability to impact generations of people.

As a lifelong trucker, I really like how the song was ambiguous about whether the bus driver or the truck driver ran the stop sign. Prayers to any innocent drivers that have to live with being involved in a fatal crash. The hooker and the preacher were searching for lost souls. The hooker survived the crash, the preacher handed her his Bible before he died. She later had a son that she read the Bible to, and he became a preacher, telling the story to his congregation.

I grew up with a grandfather who spent 42 years driving trucks. He would take grandkids with him during runs in summertime, and that was a treat. I enjoyed the few times I got to be the one. The thing I noticed is he is vague about the ultimate fates of the bus driver and trucker. He never even tells us if they lived or died. If the hooker survived, couldn't they also have survived? So beyond their existence, we know nothing about the two of them. Why weren't there crosses for them?

@@amandastamper4962 I think we all may be saying the same and not speaking all that clearly. 1. Preacher on bus hands his Bible to the prostitute before dieing. . 2. Prostitute's life is changed by the message in that Bible and she raises her son to believe as she reads that very Bible to him. 3 Reformed Prostitute's son becomes preacher and tells the story to his congregation. My interpretation as to why the prostitute was spared: Altgough she did repent, she was actually spared because she had unfinished business (the raising of a son who who would go on to save many more). In otherwords, she had work to complete for the Lord.

The worst accident that ever hard to work on happened on Christmas Eve with blowing snow. A van full of a family was hit broadside after it slid on ice and turned sideways. They were all killed, the parents and all four children. The police, county and state, were crying because their brightly colored wrapped presents were lying scattered for yards around in the snow. This was 30 years ago and I still detest snow and think of them every Christmas and whenever it snows.

Absolutely correct , its what you leave behind . A son who is now a farmer , another teacher from her class teaching more students and a Hookers son who is now a preacher because his mother read him that bible . Love your reaction, even your reaction is helping someone, even if its just one you are touching someone . Love you guys

In the early 1990's I had a college field placement in a middle school for 9 weeks. I was there for 3 school periods 3 days a week. I interacted with all of the students in my classes a little. There were a few kids that just stayed in my mind. In the early 2000s, I was working at a childcare center in a small town. One day, when a mom came in to pick up her son, she had a friend with her. The friend recognized me immediately even though I had changed a lot. She and I talked for a few minutes and she asked if she could give me a hug. I knew her for 9 weeks when she was in the 7th grade. She told me that if it weren't for me, she wouldn't have graduated high school. She probably would have dropped out after the 8th grade because "nobody believed in me" ... until she met me. These days, I have several students that I used to work with (in field placements, the childcare center, and tutoring) who tell me that I changed their lives in one way or another.

Hey Lil Bit from North Carolina. The preacher, teacher and farmer died. The preacher handed his blood stained Bible to the Hooker. She had a son who She read the Bible to him and he went on to be a preacher.

Me too.😢 The most powerful message came @ the end. What we perceive as the most imperfect person was left holding the BIBLE n passed it in to her son to continue the message: HOPE. ❤️Ur reaction. 🙋👍🌹

That is absolutely correct. It is a great story of how God can save and redeem a story that many would deem hopeless.

The preacher gave his Bible to the Hooker just before he died on the side of the highway. The Hooker read the Bible to her son and told him the story of the accident. The Hookers son then became a preacher, and he was the one telling the story to the church, holding the bloody Bible up for everyone to see. Wouldn't be easy to get all the blood off a book, even the Bible, without tearing the book up, so it still had some of the blood from the original dying preacher from the bus on it. The story always makes me cry no matter how many times I hear it!! I'm glad to see that it made a big impression on you too.

Love you Gitana! You and your hubby are absolutely awesome! Keep on doing what you do. You entertain us, you make us laugh, and sometimes we cry together. You are real and transparent and that shows the world that you are perfect in your imperfection so we can all relate! 😊

I think the key lyric is "1 was headed for vacation, 1 for Higher education, and 2 of them for lost souls"...the preacher Looking for Souls to Save and the Hooker looking for her Soul to be saved... So in the end the preacher saved her soul and she passed it down to her son whom became a Preacher

I think the hooker was looking for other "lost souls", but what the preacher left behind (placed that blood stained Bible in her hand) saved her soul and made her son a preacher.
