In the the recorded version of '"This Is for Real," check out her run at the end of her intro. She hits every note, then repeats the run three times in seconds. Stunning agility.

I mean she literally breathes life into a lyric and a melody! And my favorite male vocalist just happened to produce this album and the next one I believe! She had to win a grammy with all that genius in one room!

And that's what some people don't understand about Aretha being called the Queen of Soul. They think it's about the loudness or height of an artist's instrument but it's not. It's the connection to heart and spirit. Aretha has always been connected to the divine. She is even more so now. I miss her being here.

Luther also recorded this many years ago (1977 I believe) when he had a group called LUTHER

As the recording session reveals, Aretha's voice dropped rather dramatically in the late '70s and early '80s. The years of smoking several packs a day finally took its toll. It's also what likely led to her cancer diagnosis in 2010.
@christhomas57616 жыл бұрын
Plus Twelvetrees, Yes this was 1982 and you can hear how much lower she can go though her voice still sounds gorgeous. She stopped smoking around 20 or so years ago though it is true that smoking can increase the chance of developing pancreatic cancer. So sad that she`s gone.
