I’ve lived in an old house all my life(mine was built in 1900) and here are a couple tips I’ve learned. 1. Always have house shoes because you never know when you’re going to get a splinter(I hate splinters) 2. Be prepared to fix things(as I’m sure you already are 😊). My dad had to learn how to snake our toilet growing up. 3. There will be creaking 4. Always have flashlights/batteries in case of a power outage. 5. Creatures may find their way into your house or attic.

It's one thing for someone to give you their opinion on what you should/shouldn't do, but when it's strangers on the internet demanding you keep your house a certain way you do have to worry a little. I'm so excited for you...what an incredible journey you're on. We had a similar situation to yours at the end of 2019 -- our landlord decided he wanted the farmhouse we were renting for his migrant workers. We'd lived there for 7 years, had a flock of hens, a huge garden...basically we were emotionally and financially invested. Pffft. 60 days to find somewhere to live. Cue the biggest living nightmare. Long story short - we found a little house to buy and it was the best thing out of the truly worst thing. So your story is hugely relatable! Glad you're getting rid of the paneling -- as a child of the 80s, in Canada, I can tell you, you don't want to be living in the embodiment of all that was wrong with Canadian 80s decor 😆. The Wayne's World Basement aesthetic should never be allowed to return. Also - I'm glad you love your Hunter wellies....but if I could suggest you find your nearest feed store, you'll get far hardier outdoor clothing at far more reasonable prices. 😉

I'm unclear on the home inspection (if there is any at all) process upon buying/selling up in Canada but if you haven't had a licensed electrician look over the wiring throughout the house I heartily suggest it. Just because the electric might be working does not mean it's 100% safe. You don't want to do all that work and get it all pretty again only for it to burn down....and it also obviously has fire damage already in that attic space. Overall the bones look pretty good but don't overlook that electrical just bc a light turns on. Especially since it was previously abandoned. Mice and other creatures love to chew wires.

I have been wearing Crocs for over 39 years now, both lined and unlined. I have both real Crocs and FAKE Crocs. They are wonderful for inside and outside. When they get dirty you just throw them in the washer and they come out like new!! Next the 2 chairs that you bought are Plank Bottom chairs which fit perfect in your house. Next are the Half Tables which my Grandmother had in her house and I have them now. Plus when my husbands' parents died and we moved in this house, there were 5 of those tables here. They are perfect to have at the end of chairs or sofas (that's why there are short) and perfect to sit against a wall. Your microwave is to die for. It's just too cute! I am loving your videos!!!

Ripping out carpet is actually really easy. All you need is a box cutter, a pry-bar, and brute strength. It'll probably take no more than a half hour to rip it out of a normal sized room. Just cut it into manageable pieces and pull. That being said, then you have to deal with whatever subflooring is underneath. Best case scenario, you have real hardwood floors underneath that just needs TLC. Worst case, it's plywood (or concrete like in my house). Laying laminate flooring (clicks together) is easy enough, just make sure you use the self-leveling "stuff" (for lack of a better term) underneath.

I can relate to the struggle of moving away and not having any furniture! I moved from Michigan to Minnesota and the apartment that I am renting had an option of adding a furniture package to the rent. Which I chose to do because I didn't have ANY furniture at all whatsoever (no bed, no table, no chairs, etc...). But due to COVID, the furniture didn't actually arrive until four weeks after I had moved in and started online university classes and working from home. Like I said I didn't have anything so I got to sleep on top of towels with my blankets on top of me because there was no heat and I used the boxes that we moved things in as a table (and an attempt at a chair) for when I tried to eat things. It was a fun time (I say sarcastically).
