To someone who is completely incompetent when it comes to this sort of thing, you absolutely amaze me with your skill. I don't think I could do even a single step of this successfully. Your skill in this area really does show.

Thank you for your compliment. Every step is easily learned. Dedication and patience go a long way when learning this type of craft.
@teutonieth8 жыл бұрын
One thing i didn't see you do was harden the metal. Did you leave it out purposefully? Just saying, that in its current form it's not armor grade.
@LightningForce44278 жыл бұрын
teutonieth Why need to make it armour grade? It's just a prop, anyone trying to make use of it as actual armour would see how ineffective it's design is to actually protect the wearer.
@DrawbridgeProps8 жыл бұрын
This was built from mild steel so I am unable to harden it. Also this version is too thin to make an effective helm for actual combat. Technically speaking all of the brass except the faceplates were hammer hardened. Hope that answers your question.
@alfonsosanchez7667 жыл бұрын
Just as I was watching this I thought "that sheet metal is too thin for actual combat" then you commented on the actors and such, and then I saw this message, and confirmed my viewpoint, nevertheless I am doing a master in steel manufacturing engineering and I am very impressed with your technique, congratulations, love your workshop too...

I'm going one year to blacksmith school this autumn, when I'm done there I'm gonna be an apprentice. my dream is to smith swords, knives, axes and many other tools and weapons. Now I want to smith armour too! you're gonna be a huge inspiration to me and I hope I will learn many some interesting techniques from you. :-)

I haven't started on anything yet, but August 22nd I'm starting on a school hoping to become a blacksmith. So I'll be learning to forge on school 10 months ahead from then. I'm really exited to start. I hope I find somewhere to be an apprentice as there is limited numbers of how many there can be each year, just so people don't get an education and then they don't get any jobs when they're done. I am however prepared to move out of country to do my apprentice-ship.

@DrawbridgeProps8 жыл бұрын
find a local armoursmith. Facebook has a great group: United league of armorers or start yourself. leather is the way a lot of people start. less tooling required for startup compared to steel. but really you just need to build armour again and again and you will build your skill.

Fantastic work! I was just wondering how the medieval people would be able to mass-produce all the armors and helmets at such a level of complexity and texture for thousands of soldiers, given the absolute absence of all the tools you have.
@DrawbridgeProps8 жыл бұрын
Thank you!!! There are quite a number of comments and discussion on this video regarding this topic. Quite a few people have chimed in. You can read below... the summary is that this is fantasy movie armour not medieval style. In medieval times there would have been thousands of people working to arm thousands of soldiers.

+Buster Peterson but they can't see shit lol, and the mouth is still exposed. Best helmets/armour in the show go to the kingsguard, very useful and practical but also ornate and beautiful
@JackCupcake8 жыл бұрын
Not really, the Lannister soldiers can see just fine with those helmets. They don't even look impair your vision. Maybe not the best for archers, but I'm sure you could see just fine. Also, when it comes to looks, I think the Lannister helmet looks a lot more interesting, and just cooler in general. I do agree that their mouths are a bit exposed, but the helmet kind of protrudes down to protect the face. And as for the Kingsguard helmets, the face is a bit unprotected too. It seems quite effective, but it's still a pretty big opening. But hey, atleast they have some face protection at all. Most houses don't even have helmets that offer face protection. I was only saying that they look cool, not necessarily the most effective. The costume people actually said that they designed the Lannister armor to look flashy and to show off their wealth, not as much for effectiveness. I don't agree with you entirely, but you did have some good points. Sorry for so many words. :) Have a good day friend.

Thanks. I feel like it is most like a Japanese kabuto. All of the Lannister armour has a Japanese feel. I feels like it needs a bevor or face guard to have similar protection to a European sallet
