May I share a good remedy for arthritis? I am also a Veterinarian, only that I work with dairy cattle, and not small animals. But, I know a very effective remedy for this ailment. One tablespoon of freshly ground flax seed. It works like magic, and results are seen in a day or two. Mix with food, dogs love the taste. Give every day. Works especially good on old dogs. 1 tablespoon for a medium to large dog.

I had horrible plantar fasciitis in both feet for years. The thing that really helped me was wearing my new hiking boots that I was breaking in to go hiking in the mountains in the summer. Well, that was the summer of 2020, so no hiking vacation for me. But I wore those boots every day for two years when I walked my dog or worked in the yard. I realized that first summer that my feet no longer hurt. So get a very supportive pair of shoes or boots! Your feet will thank you.

So you dont get plastic residue from the bottle as I was told the oil has potential of absorbing from any plastic etc. The most pure and beneficial comes in tinted glass only. My big Tabby girl likes Coconut oil & it Drastically helps her stiffness & mobility...i first discovered this when she began sipping it off the top of my coffee...she even licked the sides of the cup! Fascinated, i let her do it..because..instinct often tells us what we need. She is 9 yrs old & slowing down...but after a few days of doing this she began to run & play again...& her overall condition improved significantly. She is an older cat & has always had a weight problem..no matter how hard i tried to monitor her food intake. She almost starved as a tiny baby & that trauma stayed with her...she panics when she gets hungry. After about a year of this, she realized she would not go hungry ever again & her fears subsided a Lot..Though she still mournfully cries when hungry, she stops eating now when she gets full, before she gets sick..

I started using castor oil for my own arthritis and tender spots and found it worked well and usually lasts several hours. If you've been using it for awhile, it works even better. Meanwhile nothing was really helping my old dog. So finally I did try rubbing castor onto his hips and back, massaging it through all that fur. He loved the application, and after a short while he was up and moving around much easier! He could lay down with his back legs under him, which he hadn't been able to do for a long time. I'm going to keep doing it with him for sure.

Thank you for sharing. I will try it on my mother in law. Question. How much oil do you rub and how often? The doctor showed a bit and did it 4 times. Is that your routine for yourself also? Thank you.
@coyotech556 ай бұрын
@@malgozata1875 For me, I just put some on my fingers and rub it onto the sore areas. I massage it just a little, and make sure I put some on any tender spots. It's good not only for joints and sore muscles, but areas that are inflamed and tender for other reasons. I do it whenever an area gets sore, no special schedule. Sometimes a couple of times a day, sometimes every couple of days.

@Veterinary Secrets If I may, I'd like to add a couple of things... Castor oil should preferably be organic, cold pressed and (important) hexane free. For best results use it as a wrap with heat applied. First apply castor oil on skin, some people soak flannel and reheat it for more than one use. Next use a layer of plastic wrap. Next a towel... next the heat source, electric blanket, hot water bottle... another towel or blanket wrapped on top of that. It really works, I tested it myself :) Another use of castor oil... Dr Jones, what do you think of it used for cataracts?

My breed is prone to IVDD and at the first sign of limping, I actually use castor oil to reduce the inflammation that causes the discs to slip in the first place. That, and raw chicken wings for their high calcium/lower phosphorous ratio, because calcium intake also seems to play a role in it as well. Started doing this after a 3yr old dog died in horrific pain because the two vets I took her to failed to prescribe anti-inflammatory steroids >:/ This was somewhere around 2008, and I legit have not taken a dog to the vet for IVDD since then. It takes a few days sometimes, but the castor oil always does the trick.

I knew Castor Oil is excellent for stimulating hair growth and condition, consequently . I gently massaged it on the area. The Vets thought the hair follicles were permanently damaged, so you can imagine my delight when new growth appeared! A couple of months later you’d never know he had a bald tail. My mostly malinois guy has become an old man of 12 with sore hips and back legs - so sad! I'm trying various things to see if I can keep him lively. I like DMSO, but it's kind of rough on human skin full strength - not sure if he'd feel it through all that thick fur of his, though. Castor oil would really gum up his fur. I'm going to try DMSO and this flax seed idea. I have arthritis in my thumb joints and some other spots - I rubbed some castor oil on my sore spots, and it definitely helped. But I don't have the thick fur 🙂

My 9 year old slowed down a lot on his walks this year. I put him on Glucosamine with MSM and he has been better in recent weeks. I bought it in the health food shop and it is for humans. A little on his dinner each day.

Try to find msm without glucosamine via fish, plus a bone supplement. I wonder if glucosamine raises your bp?

Good on yr stomach they sell flannel wrap for that. Also in your nostrils for moisture protection from flu here you mention the cat that’s good too put in cats ears for yeast.

Can you discuss knee joints in dogs. I have an 11yr old shepherd and 7 beagle both with knee pain and a 4 yr old chihuahua who’s joint goes in and out with no pain now. What’s the outlook. I thought hips would be more common but it’s the knees in our dog family.

I'm no stranger to castor oil and castor oil packs for myself, but how do you put castor oil on a dog's hips if he's a long haired Border Collie? Any suggestions are welcome.

Oh THANK YOU 😊 so much . As it is derived from a bean it is probably suitable for use if Vegan 🌱, so we will look into this . So chuffed about this product for my friends arthritis and the idea that no one has been harmed to create it or been tested on in an animal laboratory 🤗

Hi... do you think laser help with arthritis? My dog has hip OA. She has so far been given 4 sessions in 2 weeks. I dont see any improvement as yet.
