No oxalates in our meat and dairy proteins- great anti inflammatory food value:) Love your channel❤ Great info condensed into very user friendly format:) I've encorporated some of the hip exercises into my pool routine - they were very stiff for some weeks after a back strain injury (forgot to stop carrying my v heavy backpack!) I didn't want to take pain meds - very happy to say the results are a noticeable improvement. Thanks Alyssa!

Hi! Your videos are very informative. I'm 59. I've a dog walker for 20 some years. I have osteopenia (downgraded from osteoporosis) and osteoarthritis in my fingers along with knee and hip issues. Also herniated my back last May. I'm a dog walker because of my multiple autoimmune diseases that I've had since I was a teen. I'm also 13 years past breast cancer. I average about 5 miles a day, every day, some days I hit 10 miles, especially during the holidays. Doctors and nutritionist weren't very helpful in how I should fuel myself for this. I should note that most dog walking is not aerobic, but it can be exhausting. Years ago, I switched to vegan/whole food plant based, but I have a really hard time eating and staying hydrated because I often don't feel hungry or thirsty, especially when I'm working. I try to keep nuts on hand tho. Recently I've been adding a protein shakes to my meals and trying to avoid protein bars. I've been looking in to vegan food services because when I'm hungry and must-lie-down tired, I make dumb food choices. And even when I'm not exhausted, I know I'm not getting 120 gm of protein. Today, I got @80 gm, with a protein shake. I'm wondering if I should be getting even more protein than the 120 gm due to my work? Two recommendations: 1) Getting legit supplements. Consumer Lab is an independent lab that tests food products to make sure they match their labels. www.consumerlab.com. Their reports are detailed--that's an understatement-- and their top picks are extremely helpful. 2) What convinced me to go vegan: Dr. Michael Greger's How Not to Die google talk kzbin.info/www/bejne/baOximqugN56ebM. His books are all backed by existing double-blind, peer reviewed research. And he is non-profit. This google talk is about the top 15 killers and how we fair against them with meat or plant based diets. You can guess what wins out, but the data is startling. His website is www.nutritionfacts.org

Wow! My doc told me to up my protein to 55-60, so I added a pea-protein smoothie in the mornings with about 25 g in it. To get to the 91 your formula recommends, I'll have to add another smoothie, perhaps sardines daily, instead of every few days. I would like to move away from beef and pork and I don't eat dairy. Beans have been a daily staple, but I'm recently reading/learning that beans are bad for osteoporosis, though proper cooking can reduce the antinutrients. I'm just shy of 67 with a T score of -3 (and lower, but I've blocked that). My PT has me doing a variety of exercises, but no high impact - I'll be checking with her next visit to see if it's ok to start incorporating some of your moves (in other videos). Thank you!

Alyssa thank you for your informative video. I’m 68F with significant bone loss- severe osteoporosis. What do you mean by quality protein food ? Does it include these - fish, leafy veggies, dried beans, unsweetened yogurt and fresh fruits? I need to increase my daily protein intake and I don’t want to resort to protein powders. Please suggest some examples of quality proteins that I can add to my daily diet.

I've been weight training for about a year but haven't really seen much change, although it's helped with arthritis. I recently started tracking protein, and based on info in this video, I've only been eating 30% to 50% of what I should be eating. I am struggling with getting more protein in my diet and am trying to get some with every meal. I don't eat dairy, and don't eat much meat. I suppose I'll try more fish. I've always read that Americans eat more protein than they need.

I have been having a lot of joint pain, muscle weakness, bones feeling weak, and a bunch of other issues for years. I've done x-rays to rule out any structural issues. Stretching wasn't as effective. I also feel mentally exhausted and feel like I have brain fog. Like its hard to think through things like I use to. While looking into it I realized my symptoms were matching up to protein deficiency. When I did the math which was anywhere from 0.36-1.0 grams of protein per lb of body weight per day, I realized I wasn't getting enough protein. On a good day I might get as much as 90 grams and I'm over 220lbs. Last week I started supplementing with Whey. Why is it so expensive? Anyway, I started doing two scoops a day, one in the morning and evening. I feel like things are slowly improving. The joint pains are subsiding.I have a bit more strength for basic activities. My mood is slightly improving as it's a bit easier to get through the day. It's still too early to tell, since the changes are minor. I'll know more in a few months to half a year from now. However, it feels like things are going in the right direction.
