People who've never been addicted to drugs or alcohol just don't understand this statement.

@@Heebu100 That's what's so sad about addicts and how they're looked upon by the rest of society. I'm not an addict, but I've seen people I love destroy their lives because of addiction. I can't ever understand how they get addicted, but I sure as fuck know no one willingly destroys their life and the relationships with loved ones because it's what they want. It's so easy for people to forget that addicts are still humans who are deserving of a better life even if they need help from others.

I think what Artie is really saying is that the task of being sober forever is so tremendous that recovering addicts crumble under the daunting idea of it, but to be sober for the next ten minutes is a feasible and rewarding goal.

Today I changed my outlook on marijuana I used to smoke it everyday and I'm going to try to be like Joe to the sense and not smoke it every single day it is taking a lot of my money and it's also a healthy option and I don't want to be a slave to it every single day and have to rely on it. I really had an epiphany today and I hope everybody else does and they get their lives together and you surround yourself with positive people I love you like a father take care.

Since SO I've been committed to stay sober. It's the only time I've been sober in over 7rs. I was smoking everyday and spending too much money on weed, tbh I got tired of feeling high everyday. But out of all the drugs I've done I've only got stuck on weed and now I'm done with that.
@TheCullousus
@TheCullousus 5 жыл бұрын
I also smoked weed everyday for a couple of years and tbh it loses its purpose when you begin to smoke it so often for a long time if you ask me. I would argue smoking every now and then is much better and your experience will mean something rather than becoming dependent on it to enjoy things.

Logic reasoning. I've never had nearly as bad a problem with drugs as Artie has even though I've done a hefty percentage of the drugs on the table, but I'd say the one thing I've struggled with my entire life is food, it's something I tend to lose control over. Sometimes it'll last 6months, sometimes it'll last several years, but i'll eat terrible unhealthy shit, and then out of the blue i'll kick it and diet and exercise with no intention of stopping, sometimes the health binge will last 6months to at most a year and half, and then something will trigger an end to it, maybe it's a big family holiday with delicious foods, maybe i'll go on vacation, maybe money will get tight and I won't be able to afford the gym or the healthier food options I became accustom to. The point is, like Artie says, while the age old "Day at a time" sounds cliche, in actuality it's closer to "Take it a minute at a time", because when it's about something you're addicted to, you don't just think about your vice for a moment and then go about the rest of your day fine, you're thinking about it 24hrs/day 7days/wk, so the best you can do is take it a few minutes at a time and don't bullshit yourself. Don't make outlandish statements like "never again", be realistic, try your damnedest to live your best life, but keep it 100 with yourself and understand that you're only human, and if you fall off the wagon, it's not the end of the world, just pick your ass back up and get back on the horse.

Artie has a fucking real discussion about his addictions. And the fact that he’s willing to admit that he takes it a day at a time, and is strong enough to admit that doesn’t mean he might not relapse. He’s been an addict for 3 decades. That’s a damn struggle. To admit that he’s taking it seriously that it’s a continuous struggle is good to hear. Maybe he’ll relapse. I hope he doesn’t, but it’s a possibility he knows might happen, and he’s drawing a bit of strength on that realization. Stay healthy my friend. And if you relapse, I hope you can find a path back to sobriety.

If you say you'll never get high again, you'll get high again asap. The finality of it, knowing you'll feel the exact same thing day in day out, is terrifying. The easiest is saying 'next week i'll get high' then put it off..and repeat.

Every addict knows that they're only one bad day from relapsing, and I say that as an alcoholic in recovery. Support helps, 12 Step groups help most people, getting out of 'the life' helps, but at the end of the day it's just you and your monkey. No addict is ever 'cured'; I'll be fine until I'm not, then I'll get back on the wagon and start over.

People who have been in war have said the same thing, just concentrate on getting through the next 2 minutes so you don't go insane from the fear and despair. I listened to TONS of Stern before Artie came and well after he left and 90% of my favorite memories from the show involved Artie or during the Era Artie had a chair in studio. Christ I remember the INSANE meltdown he had and then left the fucking show... That entire situation literally made me depressed and sad in real life.....

If you say you'll "never" get high again, you're setting yourself up for massive relapse. Just the idea of feeling the exact same way, day in, day out, is hateful to me. To have that in my mind will have me calling a dealer before long.

Such a shame how much of his life has been basically destroyed by drugs. I remember hearing about his girlfriend in the early 2000s a lot, Dana, when he was on the stern show. It sounds like she was an angel for artie trying to get him off drugs and sticking by him for as long as she did, it must have felt awful for her to finally have just given up. Artie and Dana could have probably got married and had a lovely family, she really seemed like the one for him. But that's life, artie can look at it positively by knowing he is still alive and now is healthy with his life back. I really hope he stays clean for good this time, he has to much more to give in life.

I've never gotten high, but I've smoked weed once, back when I was about 19, my friend offered me a couple hits off of his glass pot pipe thing, and I thought "f*ck it, might as well try it out", and... the reason I say I've smoked pot, but I've never been high is because I didn't get high, I took 2 or 3 good hits off of it, and all I got was a VERY mild headache, so...
