China and Southeast Asia have been interacting with each other for nearly 2,000 years now. Theirs is a relationship characterised by extensive maritime trade, transmission of religious ideas, mutual respect, and occasional conflict. To understand what future might hold, and to place the present state of affairs in a larger context, it is imperative that we understand our past and how it has segued into our present. To help us do so, we have with us the pre-eminent historian of China and Southeast Asia, Professor Wang Gungwu. Please join Professor Gungwu's conversation with Kishore Mahbubani, as they deftly condense 2,000 years of China-Southeast Asia relations and analyse how this impacts the present.

If Asian countries want to have peaceful progress, don't let the western countries, especially US get involve anything in the regional issues.

Asian countries have to learn the biggest threat to them is the gregarious white liberals. They come with smiles and token gifts, and they want a pound of flesh in return.

It is truly amazing how knowledgeable Professor Wang was! Everything he said was so logical and insightful. I have also watched every single video I could find of Professor Mahbubani, and enjoyed the wisdom deeply rooted in his minds. Two great Asians!

The westerners would not take the time to listen to this video. It is too dense and negative for them. They are trying their best to detain china

Thai state (Siam) attacked Malaya. It was Hang Tuah who helped the Malays fought off the Siamese. Hang Tuah was in fact a Chinese Muslim. His name was Ang Dua 洪大. Known in Quanzhou.

Goes to show that South East Asia is the most peaceful region on Earth. Even Zheng He found no potential enemies there, unlike Central Asia, so they only used the tributary system + trade as a substitute for wars. And it's West vs communism during the cold war which transformed South East Asia into the middle east.

Fancy a sinkie so-called expert talking about Chinese history, what does he knows? I have no trust in his assessment. And he muddled up his space of time. Is he talking about 300ad or 1300 ad? I shut off half way.
