Wish ASICS would also "try" making their "best" shoes in a UK 13! Getting constant FOMO about the Superblast. It seems a shoe like the S4 direct from Japan isn't going to change that trend. Might be lucky to do your size even. I asked on another channel about the New Balance one but despite being in partnership with them wasn't getting too much good feedback. FuelCell I just found too soft for me and yeah general lack of eyelets in their shoes made lockdown tricky for my narrow feet. I heard this newer wasn't quite as soft but presume still is relatively so.

Same here on fuelcell Tim. It’s good for squash but no eyelets make for a poor fit.

Not just Asics. As someone who is also a UK13/US14, I hate that Adidas doesn't make quite a few shoes such as the Prime Strung and Takumi Sen in bigger sizes. Similarly, boutique trail brand NNormal also stops at tiny (for me) sizes. Quite disappointing.

Yeah, agree on the SC Trainer 2. The prices on these "super trainers are ridiculous sometimes. That thing is 230€ here. You can get the SC Elite v3, which is just better in every way for as low as160€(retail 240€).

Of all the NB plated shoes I've ever tried, including the TC, RC Elite v1, v2 and the SC trainer v1 and now v2, the SC Trainer v2 is the least "mushy". The responsiveness is good - not great, but good. The interior plushness around the foot is absolutely sublime though. For what this shoe is, it's great. It's not going to compete with the lighter, faster plated racers. But as its name implies, in this "trainer" category, it's excellent. As of now, the SC v2 is the leading contender for my 50 mile ultra next March. It has the best combination of weight, comfort and decent responsiveness for longer, slower distances.

Hi Edd, the Salomon Aero Glide has been available for about six months now with some of the original colour ways available at SF at around £110. Not tried it yet but if those prices fall further I will pull the trigger.

Just a small comment on reflective parts on shoes, because I see you mentioning them a lot: it's true, those bits are often very small and seem redundant, however, if you shoot a ray of light in the dark at them, they are able to make themselves *very* noticable - give it a test. Reflective parts on shoes also are more noticable than on for example a shirt because they move back and forth quickly. As someone who runs in the late evenings or even nights pretty often I welcome everything reflective. I agree, the S4 is by far the most interesting of those four. Always enjoy both your yeas and nays - cheers from Berlin!

I think wearing a hi vis jacket and using a head lamp is vital. Small reflective bits are ok though I guess. S4 is my number 1 hope

The NB SC Trainer V2 is too expensive. Maybe at half price or at a 40% off discount it might come under consideration but until then it's a Nay. The Hoka Transport X is a Nay too. Speaking of shoes with 'lifestyle' elements, does anyone remember the NB Lerato? I poo pooed it when it first released as it isn't a 'serious' running shoe. It has Fuelcell, carbon plate and lifestyle elements. Originally released at a very hefty price tag. I picked one up at half price and was glad I did. Although super heavy (Ultraboost territory heavy!) it is a very comfortable and a well made shoe. It works well for daily easy runs and it has an extremely durable outsole. A good holiday shoe if you only want to bring one shoe as it can pair well with jeans/slacks and dare I say it a full tracksuit at a restaurant (if that's the way you roll). Asics S4 is a Yea! Looks like the Asics version of the Adidas Boston 12. I hope Asics release it worldwide. Though I do think it may work even better with FF Blast instead of their regular FF in combo with FF Turbo but I'm sure the guys at ASICS know what they are doing.

Hi Edd, I think Salomon put the Aeroglide more as their max cushioned trainer, not super trainer. So, like you said, it is in the same class with the Triumph 21, Brooks Glycerin, etc., for example. It has been around for months now and may reviewers have put their thoughts on it... usually not very positive ones (particularly considering the price). Their attempt on "Super Trainer" category would be the Salomon Phantasm (and Phantasm 2 this year). That shoe has around 36mm stack height in the heel, their top of the line midsole, a composite fork-like plate, and around 8.3oz weight for US9 size. It is the training companion to their road racing shoe, the Salomon S/Lab Phantasm CF. In feel, they are somewhat similar to the saucony endorphin speed 2, but less bounce and a bit more rockered in the heel area.

NB SC trainer V2 is a different fuel cell than the others I have,which is all of them..maybe more like the propel which I sent back..V2 really doesn't have any resemblance to V1 other than the name..V1 is a good long run shoe and recovery shoe..I really haven't figured out what V2 is good for yet..the RC elite V2 is a better training shoe than either SC trainer V1 or V2 and for me it's more durable..

Totally agree. I got a cheap pair of RC Elite V2 and it is an excellent training shoe. Much better value. Lower weight and a lot more versatile.

The Hoka one might be an interesting option for people with hallux rigidus or limitus. That carbon plate with a rocker could be very nice. Will keep an eye on it.

the SC trainer v1 outsole is fine, I have more than 500 k on mine and while it got thinner in my heavy wear areas the rubber is still intact. The foam however has kinda collapsed in a spot of my left forefoot, no cushion below the plate at all left on the left, right shoe is all right. Keep in mind the foam is mostly above the plate, still usable, but the Superblast has taken the spot of long run shoe for this training block.

I have both S4 and Superblast I ran once in S4 and is very different from Superblast, definitely stiffer, may need some break-in but certainly more stable compare with Metaskys

Regarding the heel strike comment. The majority of professionals also heel strike. There is some charts where you can see that even most of the forefoot and midfoot runners spend over 50 percent of their races heel striking. Only a very small percent of pros run forefoot or midfoot for the majority of the race.

I've had three pairs of Hokas now, all bought for less than half price on special, and I'm beginning to see why. The uppers are distinctly fragile. Couple of months in and holes are beginning to show. Never again, even though they are pretty good for running downhill.

The Salomon Aero Glide has the same mid and outsole as last years Salomon Glide Max (I believe), it's certainly not a super trainer, it's just a perfectly fine daily trainer. It's fairly firm and has a nice rocker, I used it as a replacement for my Triumph 19. It was fine... solid but not exciting.
