For a "like" to be honest, one has to see the video till the end. Hence I would choose to press the 'like' button after I have finished seeing the video and if I really like it. And an honest like has far more value than just pressing of a button, because it means that your channel has truly impacted a person and his world view. So, I would kindly suggest you to ask for 'honest likes', rather than pressing the button.

In trying to abolish castes by Law we threw the baby out with the bath water. We could have banned the undesirable and hateful aspects of caste, such as untouchability, without destroying the beneficial effects of intra-caste cohesion and solidarity. But then some people saw caste as the stairway to pinnacles of political power and have grabbed it with both hands. It is tiresome to blame Nehru yet again but the dreamy-eyed idealist failed to see the dire consequences of his ideas. The legislative abolition of castes is based on the mistaken premise that everybody can do everything. Fact is, they cannot. Let people do what they are good at and prosper. As a result of what we have done, children of traditional artisans are all holding worthless degrees, waiting for government jobs through reservation while Akhilesh and Tejashwi Yadavs are waiting for the top slot.
@MrPoornakumar
@MrPoornakumar 3 жыл бұрын
Murali Muralidharan After paying lip service to "banned the undesirable and hateful aspects of caste, such as untouchability" you zeroed on the "traditional artisans are all holding worthless degrees, waiting for government jobs through RESERVATION". Have you thought (if not explained here) why they do that? An emphatic "No". They do it as they see social upward movement in the chosen alternative. Even a child knows it. If a better alternative opens up (courtesy - the governemnt) why should they remain in their old profession? Why should they remain tied up to poverty (artisans' jobs are the lowest Economics-wise) & low social standing, in the name of "skills", all that hogwash ? Why not other castes do those jobs, if needed (by the society)? If these (newly acquired) degrees are worthless, why the others are hankering after them? (or do you mean to say that these degress are "useless" only in the hands of these lowest castes & not for others? Do you hint it? Doesn't this show your hypocricy?) Let Akhilesh and Tejashwi Yadavs be, "waiting for the top slot" (it is their JOB), what is there for these new job seekers (what motive you have to bring in the picture, politicians or is it your flippant left-handed remark that shows your angst)? If they want "grabbed it with both hands" let them; let them take some more hands for it. Caste situation needn't be trivilaised. No need to bring in Nehru & anyone else. It is a serious human (humanitarian) issue, something "beyond" Nehru. This man, RV has a knack of covering his serious comment with hilarity to make it palatable, but that may not be trivialising. What have you? My advice is - don't mix up Politics with Sociology; you won't go far.

Why patels are sucessful in motels, see the reasons given by Americans in chatrooms 🙂 1) Patels set up motels at remote locations, live there with their families,which many Americans are not willing to do. 2) Owners are ready to wake up midnight/odd hours, greet customers when they check in.

Seems only a small subset want to cling to this system, do investigate it carefully, before this "caste" was imposed on humanity, we all had a fluid class system... but once you impose a "caste" system, there is little incentive for one to strive... if this "caste" system was so superior, why did it constantly fall from invader after invader, from the muslims to the britsh... class is undeniable, but caste is a product of entitled people trying to impose their sense of superiority... just remember, why so many talented indians keep leaving india.And clinging to this perversion of humanity will guarantee the fall of india as a nation.

Caste is an artificial grouping created by the British. India has 5000+ Jati's, these 5000 Jati's were grouped into the 5 so called Castes of Forward Caste, Backward Caste, Other Backward Caste and Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes. The British also had a category called "Criminal Tribes" where they declared an entire Tribe or Jati as criminals (Generally for resisting British rule or impeding resource extraction in an area). Therefore these caste groupings don't have any real meaning. The narrative of oppression by Brahmins is the most ludicrous of all as Brahmins never had Political or Economic power. The assault on Brahmins was due to the fact that Christian evangelicals see Brahmins as a key impediment to Christian conversion of Hindus.

BigOil Congratulations! You have displayed "elementary" knowledge. With all your knowledge you can't stop Christians & Muslims criticising you. You shouldn't ignore criticism as that would be dangerous.Try to figure out on what points they criticise & try avert-ing it. Try to reform your home, so that they can't have a point to criticise you. Try knowing why many people (including the eminent ones like AR Rahman & the usual example of Dr BR Ambedkar) left. Try to know what factors worked against the unity of Indian society that they were unable to confront & defeat the onslaught of Central Asians & Europeans for the past thousand years. Try to know what factors weaken this society (its society damn it, not some spiritual mumb--jumbo), in its resolve to preserve itself. Don't just believe slogans & the "feeds" given by own people. Self-critiscism, essential for a society, so that it can remove lacunae & make it strong - must not be snuffed out or your society collapses like a house of cards.
@BigOil18

@@MrPoornakumar You can tell AR Rahman why they have a 3 fold caste system of Ashraf, Ajlaf and Azral. Christianity is a failed project in India unlike in Europe and even Africa, their % is on the decline. Islam grew through brute force and murder yet the 1000 year JIhad is a failure unlike Iraq, Iran, Egypt etc. I would say Hinduism has stood the test of time quite well. The ground level reality is ethnic discrimination and racism is 10 times worse (not to mention the Atlantic and Arab slave trade) in Islam and Christianity. I would say this is why unlike other cultures, Hindu civilization has not bent to their internationalist imperialist ideologies.

@@BigOil18 I don't think there are races in india, if you exempt foreigners visiting thisplace. It is an Anthropological term as per which they are - white, black, yellow (Mongolian), brown or Caucasian & Aborigines (one can include North Sentinalese in it)and some of their sub-races. I believe in India (from ancient times) races mingle & everyone is part this & part that. Religion is a different matter & is not co-terminous with race. Religion isn't race. All Pakistanis are Indian in race but adapted a different religion. Hindu civilisation didn't "bend" alright. But its society's leaders couldn't prevent attacks of Central Asians, periodically & later rule & also Europeans for a millennium . They failed to develop the essential unity in India leading to semi- slavery under the Moghuls(all temples got destroyed in North ); though it wasn't that bad under the British, who interfered the least in religious matters .

Sir, sorry to say I have to disagree with this podcast... Caste as a catalyst for economic growth. So you want economic or common wealth consolidated with certain communities only??? Economic share will be secluded as per the social/community/economic strata. How is this a valid practice??? You want quality but not numbers. Do you know why Hinduism loses or lost to Islam or Christianity??? It is because of this vast, huge middle class/lower middle class population who felt somewhat choked. Horse riding was for elites only, and was considered a privilege. And privileged people are few in numbers. And their(The Turks) system was to take best of all or train all, I think that makes a massive number. So our Elitism defending against their huge Elite/Non-Elite combination had a huge differential. They won because of the sheer number, not because of only certain Elites were allowed to form the big military command, everyone was there.

Did you just try to justify the caste system? We are a nation State of 1.4 billion people now. Not a motley bunch of Jatis competing/cooperating within a Varna hierarchy. If you want to protect & proliferate only the interests of your birth-kin/tribe, what's the point in having this continental-scale NATION? Do you even understand what nationalism implies/requires? Inter-generationally hierarchical division of labor was common to all pre-modern societies. It evolved for its times, as all social orders do & must change with it. Even the Dharma-shastras say as much. The invention of the printing press & the industrial revolution changed things forever. This led to labor homogenization & capital liquidation on a massive scale. Not to mention the rise of mass education. So privileges are easy to gain & lose now (often within the same generation). Enemies of Hindutva (& India's re-emergence on the global stage) have always warned that it's benign & inclusive rhetoric is just a temporary mask to eventually establish a "Brahminical" caste order. Try not to give them more fodder. Embrace the newer (technologically enabled) possibilities of the times, like the East Asians (most consequentially the PRC) have done. Otherwise, you will lose valuable opportunities to regain the global initiative. Being a post-colonial people, one can understand if you didn't know what it meant to be a nation State in the '50s-'70s. Now? It's inexcusable. We are better off accepting that our social systems have been rendered obsolete centuries ago & try to catch up ASAP (again, look to the PRC for some inspiration - with all their irritating antics at the border notwithstanding).

kn n That is the modern, desirable & adapted version (for public good) of "untouchability" against COVID19. In America Untouchable is one, who is too high (on the Social ladder) & the people dread to touch him even, a mafiosi. Once (it seems), Swamy Ramanjucharya was holding a dicussion (conclave, "goshti") in a temple premise, when a person that we call "dalit" now, happened to pass by after his work in the farm. He was interested to listen the Swami & stood at the gate for a long time listening him. The Swamy noticing him asked him to step in, to join. For that the man said "I am unclean, an Untouchable". The Swany said, "if you feel you're unclean, you could go home, become clean by taking a bath & come to join here". RV always applies it, in a restrictive sense, not in a universal setting.

@@pkoh1251 You should read the Quran and the Bible to know what slavery actually means. The worst thing India ever had anything close to slavery is indentured labor and relative lack of and hurdles to mobility from menial work to remunerative work. Indentured labor is close to slavery, but nowhere near the inhuman form of what was prevalent in other parts of the world. Class mobility was always a tough thing to achieve in any society, which is the case even now. The vast majority of the people born into a class stay in that class all their life. If there is progress, that only happens on a societal level where the quality of life of the entire society rises and thereby, individuals do too. It is very difficult for individuals to rise above the class they were born into by themselves, over and above their peers - with sheer talent and hard work. Just type "class mobility The Economist" and you'll find several articles from the newspaper which talk about well researched articles that say that even in this day and age, even in advanced countries, most people stay in the class they were born into, inspite of education, technology and welfare programs. It's just the way it is.

@@sukhbirnaidu4360 I agreed, but it is that caste by birth law made it so much harder. It is a unique form multi level servitude, and it is definitely undemocratic. Also, it was biblical time's versus current issues.

@@pkoh1251 There have been movements against the brahminical hegemony like the Dravidian movement in Tamilnadu, but what happens with such movements is that power changes hands, and the oppressed become the oppressors. Caste stays. Caste can stay. The discrimination must go. Opportunities must open up for all people. That's what I think

So? Countries with no caste system or atleast no caste based work system are economically stronger than ours. And caste system which u tell is good for economy is bad for society. Certain castes did business and have amassed huge ancestral wealth and whereas many castes had to do subhuman works and didn't even get minimum pay. So ur economy worked but society sucked. Trads justifying caste system by using economy is the last thing we would want. This felt like an absurd justification of caste system but keep in mind the horrors that it led to.

@@karthika560 No other country has Caste system. "Chaturvarnam maya sRshtma.. " wasn't a British incantation but interposed by the followers of Manu. Manu was neither Portuguese nor British. After noticing it, the Europeans coined that term "Caste", that you say they have INVENTED. Don't twist facts. You may be right that India isn't industrialised due to Social immobility. But we also boast that we have the Technological heads (but no movement on ground, nor worthwhile industrial activity, as it is the realm of artisans - of whatever caste - primarily)!

Caste system is certainly hierarchical and the basis for exploitation and slavery . It's the most inhuman practice.

@@mashnasa1 You know what, even after they have certain segregation, their motto is singleton. When protecting Christianity, all the denominations come together to protect it. In Hinduism it's not the same. And remember, Islam and Christianity are far more competitive than you Hindu(Egoist Relaxed Pagans) are.

Hello sirs, you’re really not doing your cause and channel any favours by stating things like “child labour is actually training for entrepreneurship” etc. how will you grow your channel when you are talking such things. Very disappointing..

Jag CG Sir ! You hit the nail at right place. I may add that Child labour(in India) is an essential part of Economy (recent example: Sivakasi), that government felt responsible enough to remove it.
