Just a tiny tiny bit in her defense.. Some people actually get better by using placebos. The mind is special. A lot of physical problems can be caused by the psychological problems a person has. If this makes them relax and believe that they feel better the tension in the body might decrease and that might help.

It should be noted that a placebo largely make you FEEL better. It doesn't actually improve your health. A few studies in 2018 found that when a group of insomniacs took a placebo, it made them think they had a better sleep schedule but nothing had changed. This can be dangerous if they just stopped there and didn't decide to treat the actual problem. Placebos work based on perception, they stop working when the issue isn't dependent on it.
