Across my platforms, I have always been asked about visits to the OBGYN when you have never been sexually active, or as many patients call it "being a virgin." It is very important to note, that being a "virgin" can mean many different things to each person-and that there is no set definition. With that being said, US guidelines still recommend getting your first Pap test at 21 regardless of sexual activity !

As someone who had never had penetrative sex, not used tampons, I wish my first PAP smear was like this. I had specifically asked the doctor not to do the test when I booked the appointment and they sprung it on me anyway. Bullied me into it doing the test, made me feel like a baby (and actually called me a baby) for being scared, I cried and then they sent me on my way with no sympathy. Absolutely horrible terrifying experience.

I LOVE how were so respectful on the topic of “virginity”! As a bisexual girl, people really sometimes misunderstand what being a “virgin” is. Even though I have had sexual intercourse with a woman, some people still see me as a “virgin” because the intercourse I had never was penetrational. So thank you, it does mean a lot! 🥰

@@hawaii3231 I don’t get why it’s impossible? Having intercourse doesn’t imply that it’s penetrational. What intercourse means for a person depends on beliefs, culture, religion, personal opinions,.. So I really don’t see your point? 😊 (It is true that I’m not a native English speaker, so maybe the word “intercourse” has the connotation of being heterosexual sex. However, I mean intercourse as “having sex”.)

I'm a lesbian and on the ace spectrum and not sexually active. I had mine and it was painful and really uncomfortable. Best of luck to anyone that has theirs, I think it really just depends on the person and on who is giving you the pap smear. I absolutely love your different ideas for these videos! I have a suggestion for you to maybe consider. It's a definite more serious kind of roleplay and perhaps this is too sensitive of a roleplay for you. But this was a common problem for me personally when it came to OBGYN visits. You can just ignore this, no problem, but I'm just throwing it out there for you! I'm a survivor of childhood abuse by a male relative. As a result, I couldn't handle being "opened" down there because I kept automatically panicking every time I felt my doctor penetrate me in any way; speculum, fingers, etc. It was like a reflex I couldn't stop. One time, I literally started yelling, and the doctors had to calm me down. I felt horrible about it. MANY doctors couldn't help and told me I had to get over it. I eventually found a gynecologist who proved very helpful to me. I first went to her because my period cramps became very near debilitating for me; I knew I couldn't deal with this level of pain every month and was desperate for help. She recommended I get the Mirena IUD for my period problem and I explained my childhood trauma issue to her. She said she could have me put under anesthesia so I would be out for it and, given I was previously unable to get my pap smear done, could have that done for me as well while I was under. I said yes and was VERY grateful. I got the IUD (my extremely painful cramps have disappeared), she got the pap done (my results were healthy), and she said to come to her again to make the process easy for me. To say this was a relief for me... would be an understatement. I was thrilled I found her as my gynecologist and am very happy about it! Maybe you could tackle a roleplay related to this kind of issue? If you don't want to, no problem whatsoever. Totally understand the sensitivity around it. I was just putting it out there for you since, for me personally, this was a HUGE issue for me when it came to seeing the gynecologist and it made things so much harder for me. Especially with doctors who told me to just "get over it". It was a relief to find a doctor who actually was sympathetic to me and offered me real solutions the others didn't.

It genuinley shocks me to hear that doctors told you that, I do believe the education you get to become a Doctor isn’t nearly as extensive enough as it needs to be. Having the facts about the body is great it’ll get you half there, but being able to communicate and deal with diffirent types of patients is an extensive part of the job which they dont deal with and I find that crazy when in other Fields of care like in elder care it’s huge.

This is really nice! I am a virgin, which is less common for someone my age. A few years ago, I had a traumatic first pap experience. The doctor I had back then was rude and lied about using the smaller speculum. Her assistant held my legs open as I screamed and cried! I went to see a new doctor a couple of days ago! She was much nicer than my first. Respectful and gentle! This time she tried to use the pediatric speculum with lubricant, and I tried to tolerate it the best I could, but could only get it halfway in. Then my doctor did the blind pap. It still hurt, but not as much as the speculum, and it didn't last long.

Here in Brazil we get pap smears once a year and we should start getting the exams once we get sexually active (this can range from early teens to young adults, for example I got my 1st pap done at 19 right after I got sexually active), regardless of the gender of your partner But ofc folks who never got sexually active before can also get pap smears and they give many options for this here, it's not as common as it should be (unfortunately many ppl simply don't get their pap done exactly bc they aren't sexually active) But since I went through menarch (and I believe this is the case of many AFAB folks here in Brazil) at 11 I get the breast exam and the exam where the obgyn looks at your vulva + a cotton swab of the vaginal discharge to see if everything is healthy done once a year, I also get a breast and abdominal ultrasound done every year to see if everything is okay... I still get those exams since I was 11 done, but now I also get the pap smear + transvaginal ultrasound yearly since 19 (now it's gonna be my 6th year), and bc I have endometriosis I also have to get yearly abdominal and pelvic MRIs with contrast agent to caught new lesions and monitor the other lesions I already have

I think a lot of people also define a virgin as consensually having penetrative sex. A few people I know and myself by the overall definition of virginity are not virgins but by our definition we are. It rlly depends on what u believe in and how u feel. This was honestly amazing I am a virgin who has never had penetrative sex, and last year I had my first pap ever and it was a mortifying experience. The doctor I had put a speculum in and then proceeded to crank it around and I told her that I was in pain and she said and did nothing and then proceeded to use a larger speculum. It was the most uncomfortable and terrifying experience at a doctor I’ve ever had. I genuinely wish I had a doctor that is as kind as you are in these videos

It is such a shame when you to the nurse for such delicate matters it is always an ordeal. I would literally travel to see you. I wish that my first couple of Pap smears were with someone as courteous and thoughtful as you. Patient centered care should be the norm but unfortunately I’ve had a couple of bad experiences that made me terrified of Pap smears. Thankfully, though, I just had a successful one a few days ago, where I advocated for myself heavily, and thankfully, this doctor understood that I needed to go very slow, use the smallest size, and all I felt was a small pinch. Much better than last time.

YOU DON'T NEED IT if you're a virgin. Because basically a pap smear is a pair of forceps going up inside your body, and splitting you open to check for cancer. Please don't do it if you're not sexually active. You're going to end up traumatized and violated. Say NO and step away. Please talk to your mother or grandmother about this topic. Be safe, Pang.

@@4fcksakeJay it’s because the majority of cervical cancer cases, especially in younger people (teenagers through 20s) are caused by HPV, which is often transmitted through sexual intercourse. So if you haven’t had sex, especially with an unvaccinated man, you’re very low risk and it’s not worth routinely screening for.
