In reality, it won't even show to the naked eye due to the lack of light from the black holes. It would be akin to a void and only noticeable from it's extreme gravity or the way it warps light around it from the galaxies. On another note, see the Boots void as an example which raises some eyebrows.

At the intergalactic scale, the universe looks like a foam, with most galaxy clusters clumping along filament patterns surrounding large relatively empty regions. The Bootes Void is just a particularly large "bubble" in the foam. Creepily empty, but nothing too unusual if you zoom out a bit further. The weird thing is how often that foam pattern shows up on almost any scale.

An *interesting* feature of the menacing ships is that they ONLY cost minerals, always, no matter what. So you can put components that need special resources on them and they'll still only cost minerals, and they're FREE to upgrade. Same goes for building more Star Eaters but with Dark Matter and they're also free to upgrade.

Kind of a shame that this is how it ends. Part of me was hoping we'd have options with what sort of crises we'd become. Would have really liked a subjugation path where we could more or less enslave the galaxy. Sure you can already do that, but being taken seriously like that and actually having the galaxy fight you have caused some interesting scenarios. But no...it's just blow the entire galaxy up.

It doesn't really make sense for my corrupted AI that wants to assimilate all of the universe into cyborg slaves to feed the machine homeworlds would want to blow up the galaxy. Would have been much nicer to give different paths to victory - maybe just swap the star destroyers out for system assimilators that sends out land armies to all of the systems to slowly wear them down and assimilate pops. I wonder, could carrier battleships be the counter for these empires? Become the crisis empires are incentivized to lean into the menacing ships so you can cut back on alloys, but they're primarily small vessels with minimal point defense... in other words, exactly what the current version of strike craft was designed to counter.

The crisis ships are there to be fodder htough, you still have your own navy with actual optimized ships as well.

@@archmagemc3561 And if you're going to take on the whole galaxy, those optimized ships are going to be spread awfully thin. Especially since there's still a trade-off in whether you use your minerals to build cost-effective, but inflexible menacing ships, or process them into alloys for expensive but customizable normal ships. I'd say normal ships would probably be best used in a supporting role, and knowing about this weakness that would probably include embedding a few picket destroyers in each fleet (assuming my enemy is other players).

@@justinthompson6364 I do a mix of regular and crisis ships, and I customize both. Yeah crisis ships are fodder, but menacing corvettes don't even need afterburners for 90% evasion, leaving you to put aux fire control, for example, and same with destros. Menace ships not having PD is irrelevant if you run other PD ships with them or you have carrier units alongside them. Also, the AI tends to not use carriers iirc.

When I did my Become the Crisis playthrough only two fallen empires awoke and they actually interrupted the total war on me by starting a war in heaven, everyone they vassalized was forced out of my crisis war and were too busy fighting each other to fight me so I could kind of just mozy around the galaxy, casually hoovering up stars until I could build the aetherophasic engine.

i did the last one without knowing that everyone will declare war on me i rushed star eaters spread them in all directions destroyed every system in range saw as my empire slowly got eaten so i got desperate destroyed my own systems gathered everything in my home system and waited for the last surviving star eater to finish 2 more systems so i could finish the final stage..... and i won a 23 hour game

Is there a endgame run for the ravenous hunger that hive minds can have? Instead of blowing up a galaxy could they just, consume it instead?

Could be a cool crisis idea since there’s a crisis for machine empires, they could make a crisis that Hive Minds become where they can build a psionic machine that immediately takes control of all biological life, and forces them into slavery, other than your own species. And you could force them to be in whatever position you want and they produce 0 deviancy, 0 unstableness and they consume no amenities. That’d be cool, and they could make it so that all robot pops in the galaxy are immediately shut off and begin to explode because of the psionic signals being sent to so many biological life that it’s confusing their systems and they just… pop. And they could make it so that once a planet is full under your control, it becomes your system and the only way to stop this crisis would be to stop the machine being built, before it’s too late. And if that machine is stopped, by whomever, that empire can use it for their own.

I did a devouring swarm play and activated the crisis while an awaken empire was amassing power, i managed to snipe every other empire and only the awakened was left then the unbiden arrived near my home world, it was a very close one but i managed to blow up the galaxy before I lost.

I was playing as a devouring swarm, and this Nemesis system helped me survive the end game threat. In fact I was the last empire standing at the end, and I won the war in the heavens.

Diplomacy was always the most limited and I think even now I would like to see more. That you have more options to get your rivals to fight each other. Also maybe that you can fight a system on behalf of another empire. That you can conquer a system for an ally. That could give you positive relationships and also serve to weaken your rival. I mostly want more stuff like that. That can allow you to hide behind your fortresses yet still play the galactic game. With the funding piracy I would have also liked a more subtle option. That you can pay a montly sum to give a flat increase to piracy. Meaning your rival has to invest in greater protection

As someone who restarted Stellaris recently and am playing as the “Defender of the Galaxy” only to have my immediate Neighbor become the Crisis… I’d be worried if my Fleet and Research weren’t Overwhelming for the Crisis and his Federated Allies. My fleets are already lancing into the north of their territory as they are busy trying to break their southern neighbor. Their “Sun Eater” will be destroyed by the end of the year and their Species capital will be Cracked! The Terran Regime will ensure a Strong and Lasting Peace for the Galaxy! Humanity will be the Guardians of the Galaxy and NONE shall be left wanting!

It would be really cool if the L-Cluster, or the habitats in black hole systems managed to survive. That way, empires could potentially rebuild- or, a new origin could be made based off that

My first game as the crisis started as -war in heaven - 2 robot rebellions in league of non aligned empires - then I become crisis during all this. I think the war in heaven became bugged because I was kicked out of the federation and the galactic community. - I go negative in minerals for some reason - the paryroton scourge arrives practically right on top of me. - I decided to use 2 fleets plus star killers to remove the scourge and push them south towards my enemies -I give up on offense and just defend the L gate and the only 2 choke points into my capital - I win the game with less then 15 star bases left + Lgate systems. To be honest it was a nice challenge which I was not prepared for at all. I managed to hold the 2 critical choke points and reached the final stage of the engine and won. To bad the kill the galaxy achievement is broken. I like the fact that I was pushed to the edge to of extinction.

Does anyone get the vibe that once an empire achieves psionic godhood according to the lore they basically become player like existences? Think about it, in the Stellaris Universe we are gods, we can have access to the very fabric of the universe, stop time, use the ~ button, and much more. Thats basically the goal of the aerophasic engine.

I reached level 5 right after the Unbidden started their attack and then the isolationists awakened. The whole galaxy sunk in chaos, my shipyards spit out fleet after fleet to defend my borders. It was glorious.

Now some people might disagree, due to the very mixed reviews Nemesis had gotten, but for me personally, Become The Crisis was one of the most fun paths I've played in Stellaris. I really liked it!

The ships being essentially reused old assets is really, REALLY lame. I finally get to become the crisis that is supposed to threaten the very existance of all sentient life, and yet my ships look like something Captain Gork Sista-Fakka would ride on.

Yeah that’s so annoying, they couldn’t have just made some really cool actually menacing ships to use, especially the cruiser, half of its hull is literally fucking asteroid, which doesn’t exactly scream “menacing” or “empire that can ascend into the next realm of existence”.

I actually think that the Atherphasic Engine creates the Class 30 Singularity that the Contingency was designed to stop from being created, because the Engine does destabilize the fabric of the universe and eventually destroys the galaxy, just as the Contingency warned that the Singularly would do. This theory is further enhanced by the fact that every star becomes a black hole during the engine's activation. Black holes have singularities at their centers after all!
