This was a really great instructional video for my 2016. It did however take a lot longer. Removing the bolt at 2:40 was a nightmare and getting the old bearing out was also very hard. Job was about 4 hours.

Just curious how many miles were on the car when you did this? Just curious how long the ball joint lasts

I believe this car had around 80k if I remember right. It all kind of depends on the type of terrain your driving on if you mainly do highway they can last 100k plus miles but if your doing constant dirt, washboard roads, or live in an area where potholes are common they may only last 10k miles.

Great video. Question, this is my first time finding out about this part of the car. I’m not really a car guy but I don’t mind fixing things my self. So I took my wife’s car to do an oil change and they do an inspection and found out that I needed to replace the ball joints as well as the air filter. Both front ball joints and air filter was coming up to $1000 big bucks so I said hold on. I bought the air filter and went to change it and realized my air filter was fine. So I came to KZbin and found your channel. I saw the little bit of play that your wheel had and I’m wondering, any play in the wheel is enough to have the ball joint replaced?

Wow $1000 for two ball joints and an air filter that insane. Are you having any issues with uneven tire wear or vibration in the steering wheel while braking? Also how many miles are on the vehicle? Personally I would just jack it up and check for any play there shouldn’t be any at all if there’s a little it will most likely get worse over time. Luckily Kia made it super easy to change the ball joints on these vehicles.

@@BLUECOLLARGARAGE very little uneven on the tire wear. The car has about 80k miles on it. I did Jack it up and it has very little play. Way less than you have In this video. Actually it’s because of your video that I feel confident enough to do the job my self. I just don’t know if it really does need replacement. That shop already tried to play me for the filter that didn’t need replacement . It’s so hard to find good honest mechanics out here.

Just got a 400$ quote for both ball joints...1000$ seems excessive. Air filter is a 30$ job max

Do you take the grease zerk off when you're done?

No you leave it in and just add grease to it about every oil change.

My Kia optima ball joints are shot tried taking them off but is stuck to the arm not the knuckle Very similar instead of 1 bolt and 2 nuts like your vehicle mine has 3 nuts on the ball joint
