Astro a50 ps5 audio fix (mix Amp fix)

here's how to get the astro a50 to work right with your ps5 so you can mix game and chat audio on the headset like you could on ps4 while having great sound!
VERY IMPORTANT: MAKE SURE TO SET HDMI INPUT FORMAT TO BITSTREAM IN YOUR TV SOUND SETTINGS and also I forgot to mention in the video that your astro base station optical cord should be plugged into the optical port of your TV.

Hey I have the a 50 and my audio works fine and all like my party chat and everything but for some reason I can’t hear game chat and but they can hear me? I’ve still unsure if the problem lies within my console or headphone.

Yes! Also I've since learned the correct setting is in fact the 5.1 and the 7.1 audio get virtualized from the there by the astro software.

@Mythical Gamer yeah I switched it to 5.1, I'm not sure if there's actually a difference but it seems like the sound positioning is more accurate when listening for footsteps and other small noises

@Mythical Gamer it only happened to me when I first changed the channels to 5.1 but it was normal after that, check to make sure all your TV setting are correct with dolby audio enabled etc..

So everything is working fine but just a question When I join a discord chat through my ps5 it only allows me to hear them when I change the output sound to av amplifier instead of a50 I can still hear everyone and the game but the game sounds a little low is that just how it is or Is something wrong ?

Connect headset and base station to a pc, go into the Astro command center, then select the "stream port" tab and turn off all volume sliders except the microphone. This will solve the problem as it will just send your voice over the channel. Also make sure the base station is set to pc when connected to PS5.

I don't really have much experience with that model, I've only ever really used the astro A50s and playstation pulse headsets. I would recommend messing around with your sound settings on your PS5 and also try resetting the headset with the buttons on it. Astro a50s have it where you can press the surround sound button and game chat volume button at the same time and it hard resets the headphones and fixes most glitches. I'm not sure about the A30s though. If none of that works I'd recommend returning them and getting something a little more compatible with PS5. Astro definitely has compatibility issues with the current gen playstation.

This method is for people who aren't using the adapter. The adapter limits your vid signal to 4k 60hz max and also locks you @422 chroma instead of full 444 RGB.

Make sure wires are hooked up correctly = HDMI from ps5 to tv, USB from rear ps5 port to A50 transmitter/dock, optical cord from tv to A50 transmitter/dock then Check tv settings make sure sound out = optical device , audio format = Bitstream, on playstation, output device = astro a50, hdmi device type = av amplifier, number of channels = 5.1 (correction from video) and audio format priority = dolby. If it still doesn't work then it might be a hardware issue.

when you use the Dolby surround sound does it work like surround sound (if the person on fps game is on the left then it will go in the left ear only) because it has not been working for me when I turn the Dolby button on via the headset

Yeah dolby simulates 7.1 surround. the headphones are 5.1 and the last 2 channels are simulated, you have to make sure your sound settings are correct with the TV, your playstation and whatever game you're playing.

When I use the dolby surround sound by clicking the button on the headset the sound is different but it’s still mono audio aka if someone is on my left it goes through both ears unlike when I don’t have the Dolby button on then it will play only on my left headphone ear.

@@ItsAciidic it should sound like it's "mostly" on the left or right since it's basically trying to reproduce a 3d sound field. Also adjusting the speaker positions under sound settings in your ps5 settings really helps with directional audio. I have 3 towards the front evenly spread and the last 2 set at diagonal angles from the rear and then the last 2 middle/side channels are simulated by the headset.

@@oscaralcala3628 I see, unfortunately I misread your last comment and thought you were talking about the A50 model, this guide is pretty specific for that model of astro headphones and I don't have much experience with the lower model. Yeah this is the workaround that I found! if you set up everything like this you should be all good! Also I forgot to mention in the video, be sure to set your hdmi input audio format to Bitstream. No need for the adapter with this method, however I have noticed that with some games the mix Amp won't work for in game chat audio it's just all mixed together in one volume control. But it works perfectly for every game if your in party chat. Must be a software or hardware thing I'm not sure.

That's usually because your volume is too high and or mic sensitivity is too high Try lowering the sensitivity and lowering the volume a little that usually helps
