Love the Atelier series. One of the most underrated JRPG series. Been around since 1997. I was just thinking about getting some of the Atelier games that are currently available on the EShop and now I have a reason to get them: to hold me down until this one gets released.

The timing of this reveal is rather funny to me. I got into the franchise with Ryza 1 (like a lot of people) but didn't play any of the older releases until after I finished Ryza 3. Since then, I've played through the Mysterious trilogy, Sophie 2, Marie Remake, and the Dusk trilogy. I decided to take a break before jumping into the Arland trilogy, not because I was getting burned out per se but because there were a handful of other games I wanted to play through first. Said break started only about two weeks ago, and now this reveal is making me really want to get back to the series immediately XD

I know what you mean. You finish some of the games in the series and then you take a break trying out other games that are available and then all of sudden the developers, in this case Koei Tecmo who is more famously known for the Warriors and Musou series and Gust who has worked on all of the Atelier games decides that the time is right to release more info on an new main series game and all of sudden you get absorbed back into the series again probably because of intrigue but also you probably want to see what direction the franchise will go this time. The only that I can say about this particular game is that it’s much darker than the Ryza trilogy. I believe according to one commenter that this game is taking parts from the Dusk trilogy and is making the story much darker compared to past games. This isn’t the dev team’s first rodeo though when it comes to dark story games, anyone here remember the Azure Night series?

@kidrobot To me it is if you compare it to JRPG franchises like Final Fantasy, Pokémon, and Persona. There have also been times that the Atelier series has been overlooked because of the timing of their releases whether it was during the PS2 era or the PS3 era but yeah now it’s hard to overlook the Atelier series but in my opinion it’s still an underrated series that deserves more love for its storytelling, characters, and settings.

That's perfectly fine. Atelier games are amazing and very relaxing to play. The main focus of the series is the crafting system using alchemy. The other main thing is that both Yumia and the Ryza games aren't turn-based like all the other Atelier games.

Having played the Dusk trilogy, this still definitely looks more dark/mature than those games. I'm not saying that Yumia being darker is a bad thing as I'm totally ecstatic about the game, but it definitely has a darker vibe. But I like that each trilogy generally has its own vibe.

Atelier has historically gone through trilogies. If after three serious titles the fanbase does not see lasting appeal, Gust will reverse course and move back to the more laid back tone of Ryza with a new character.

I'm hyped to see what this new game is all about. I think it's too early to judge but I hope it looks better as we get closer to release. I feel like the Ryza games looked better visually so I'm sure the visuals will improve. Also is this a ARPG?! It's hard to tell but after playing the Ryza Trilogy I wouldn't mind not going back to a static turn base system. I would love to see how the Atelier team tackles a ARPG if that's the direction we're going. ARPG with Ateliers crafting system? Gosh I hope so that could be so exciting!!

This is going to be my first Atelier game. I almost tried Ryza, except the laid back nature didn't sell me (The rest of the series seems laid back too for what it's worth). But this seems more in line with my usual lineup for games. Hope to see more gameplay in the future!

Everyone be talking about Ryza, and here I am like "wait that white shirt looks like Ramizel's outfit and the coat resemble's Sophie's" 😍 This game seems to take a darker tone with the tragic path for the protagonist's backstory as well as her seemingly cold personality. The lack of party members (for now) is also pretty interesting. It also looks like this game is more action slashy than turn-based. It's clear Gust is taking another modern approach to the gameplay. Which sadly might turn off some fans who really much prefer the slower turn-based combat system.
