@@wayneerichenry290I never thought too much of it, my conductor in band would have everyone take a deep breath that was quick right before the piece would start, so if you know music and we’re talking a basic 4/4 measure, we’d do it on 4 and start at 1. Figured it was to keep time, that’s why my conductor did it.

Lyrics It's sitting by the overcoat The second shelf, the note she wrote That I can't bring myself to throw away And also Reach she said for no one else but you 'Cause you won't turn away When someone else is gone I'm sorry 'bout the attitude I need to give when I'm with you But no one else would take this shit from me And I'm so Terrified of no one else but me I'm here all the time I won't go away It's me, yeah well I can't get myself to go away Hey it's me, and I can't get myself to go away Oh God, I shouldn't feel this way now Reach down your hand in your pocket Pull out some hope for me It's been a long day, always ain't that right And no lord, your hand won't stop it Just keep you trembling It's been a long day, always ain't that right Well I'm surprised if you'd believe In anything that comes from me I didn't hear from you or from someone else And you're so set in life man, a pisser they're waiting Too damn bad you get so far so fast So what, so long Reach down your hand in your pocket Pull out some hope for me It's been a long day, always ain't that right And no lord, your hand won't stop it Just keep you trembling It's been a long day, always ain't that right Oh, ain't that right It's me, yeah well I can't myself to go away Hey, well it's me, yeah well I can't get myself to go away Oh God I shouldn't feel this way, now Reach down your hand in your pocket Pull out some hope for me It's been a long day, always ain't that right And no lord, your hand won't stop it Just keep you trembling It's been a long day, always ain't that right Reach down your hand in your pocket Well, reach down your hand right now It's been a long day, always Ain't that right Reach down your hand in your pocket Well, reach down your hand right now It's been a long day, always Ain't that right Oh, ain't that right Well, ain't that right, right, right on, shut up Right, right, right on, right on, shut up Come on

I can't get myself to go away either. Yes, you shouldn't feel that way. But I don't know how to get it back to good. It's best to keep that under my hat. In more ways than you could possibly know. That's why I have this cd. It is therapeutic. I've not really seen the significance of that statement until now. This song is a pacesetter in that regard, I always thought that it should be track 1, it is track 2. Track 1 (Real World) can serve as the preamble to track 2 if you take out the pre-solo bridge- Please don't change...... Rainmaker, superhero, head honcho don't match up as well. But that little piece fits right in

We liked these songs as kids because they sounded good. But now we love them with the wisdom and knowledge of being an adult. The amount of times I have literally said to myself, 'i wish I could get myself to go away' but Rob's right, you can't get yourself to go away, and you are absolutely always there. These songs mean so much more to me as an adult now that I understand what they're actually about. I love you Rob, you're so beautiful

I've been known for my knowledge of music for many years and have written reviews for many forms of media....in most all genres. Matchbox 20, IMO, is one of the best musical bands of all time. His name was Scott Griffin, he lived on the third floor of a block of flats on the Yew Tree estate. And those opening lyrics, of finding a note about his Mrs leaving him was as real as it gets. Never seen him smoke till that morning. We did our best to get him drunk that night and 'get off' with some random girls, but he ended up in the corner, head in his hands and crying. Long day and unable to get away from himself or that frame of mind. I always think of him with this song cos I was going through a Matchbox 20 phase.

It kind of makes me remember the days when I looked forward to having these kinds of problems. Some of these songs are just as meaningful now as when they were first made, it's all about the mindset of the person listening.

Music is the most amazing thing there is. If you can think of it, there's a song about it. Songs can capture our hearts, our souls, our minds. It isn't just about how they make us feel, but how they can let us express ourselves. All our favorite songs are just ones we can relate to. You can tell a lot about someone just by having them tell you all their favorite songs. Listen to their songs and you will know who they are as people.

For some reason I have the lucky memory of remembering most of the songs that my parents played in the car when I was 4 and 5. This album came out and was played all over the radio around that time so some of the first songs I ever remembered hearing were songs from bands like MB20, Hootie, R.E.M., Alanis Morrisette. I think having such memories of loving that music so early has made me an old soul musically.

Man. Reading this, hoping my boys (7yrs & 4.5yrs) have memories of my 90s & 2000s jams... I can only hope my songs bring them the same happy memories as Elton John does for me riding in the family suburban w my dad and all the traveling softball games we rode to & listening to Elton John's greatest hits on cassette. ❤

@@davidmatheny1993 thats awesome! No idea why I just seem to have memories of Eltons Greatest hits... I guess because Crocodile Rock, Benny and the Jets & RocketMan are just classic. I begged my parents to buy my husband and I tickets to see EJ's Farewell Yellow Brick Rd tour. If I had known that EJ would continue that tour for multiple years to follow, I probably wouldn't have forfeited a year of presents (my husband and my bday gifts, Xmas gift, anniversary gift -if there was a chance for a present for the holiday it definitely got included).

I never looked forward to having these issues. I did, and I didn't want them. When this album came around I was like YES, THIS IS HOW I FEEL! It was nice to hear it in words instead of jumbles in my head. I felt validated. It was cathartic. Never since have any such lyrics grounded me so. Bands come and go but Rob Thomas and MB20 still remain the best of the best.

This song is legendary here in Orlando to us 90s kids!!!! 101.1 WJRR was the radio station to break this song and I heard them do it when I was 8 years old. Also Robb is a true class act. He autographed the insert to my CD copy I got of this album in 97 and he even pushed down on the paper when he signed it so I could feel the writing. I'll never stop listening to Robb Thomas and Matchbox 20!!!! Thank you Robb for making a 9 year old's Christmas in 97.
