thanks for the effort demo'ing this pedal. just my personal taste, but the best pedal reviews are when guitarists play a short progression that highlights the amp model (e.g. Top Boost - do a quick little AC/DC style progression; Deluxe - throw in a short little Country music progression, etc.) all that mindless noodling distracts from listening to the amp models & how they sound in the right setting.

Was so impressed with this I looked around at other reviews and then went ahead and ordered the amplifire from Andertons. Couldn't be happier with it. Am putting it through (funnily enough) an HT-5R and it beats hands down my old Zoom, Vox and Pod floor units (have had a few), and although is neck and neck with the TC Nova for mid-crunch drive sounds, delivers way more options AND is far more user-friendly. Stunning piece of kit. Thanks Captain. Happy Christmas!

Having had this now for a few days and tweaked it to my liking, which was so easy I have to say I am now getting the tones I have been trying to get for years. I can't thank these guys enough for doing this video. Picking up on what Lee Anderton said in another video, running in stereo produces amazing results. It even sounds great going into a little Yamaha THR10c. I am sure Helix is a great product and I was nearly tempted but if you want great tones and simple this is so worth looking at.....sorry for going on about it but great product. I really like the Kornfield tones.

Re the comments about turning off the cabinet simulator (or not as is the case in this video), just a couple of things.... 1. I tried it with & without the cab sim on the 1st 2-3 patches & I preferred the tone with the cab sim "on" - I guess we can argue about whether that's right or wrong, but in my book whatever sounds better to the player is usually the right way! 2. Tom from Atomic called to say that I'm not the 1st person to say that the clean sounds do sound fatter with the cab sim on, but that I should have tried switching the cab sim off for the dirty sounds as that, in his opinion, does sound better - my bad & I'll certainly try that in the future. 3. We are getting one of the CLR powered cabs from Atomic in the next few days, so we'll certainly plug that in with the Amplifire to see how it sounds with a flat response powered cab.. Overall I wanted to do this video into a normal, reasonably priced guitar amp, as I know thats what most guitar players will do with their multi FX pedal. I'm still really happy with the results, but I do take on board all the comments. And please - search for Atomic Amplifire in KZbin & look for the videos by Ola & Fluff & all the other great players that have done demos on these - it'll give you a great idea on what this unit can do. Cheers.

I've been using it for a while now and it's great for live use. For studio use it's lacking that little something though. It's just that quality of the top end (dull yet harsh if you try to boost the treble) that you can't unhear once you pick up on it.

This looks really interesting to me. I had an Axe-FX II for a while (bought it used so figured I could get my money back if I discovered it wasn't for me) and the amp modelling quality was insane, even responding to 'rolling off the volume'. But I did only scratch the surface and only used a few amp models in very simple patches so felt it was massive overkill and cashed in. If this pedal has models as impressive as the Axe FX in a package more suited to a 'five knob' guy like me I'd take a serious look at it.

This sounds flipping amazing with you both playing through it and I'm sorely tempted, just a quickie though. Is there any chance you could do a demo showing the expression pedal functionality at all? Loads of demos show the sounds of the unit (which are awesome) but I'd like to see the Wah/Volume and other expression pedal options and how they sound too. P.s. I know you can put a Wah in front etc. but I want to see the units tones. Thanks guys :-) Keep up the great work!!

Good sounds - got to disagree about the cab emulation when not going through an FRFR speaker though... It did feel like, even on the Top Boost setting, it was missing a lot of top end because you're adding the top roll-off of the amp's speaker to that of the impulse... Still, pretty convincing sounds.

I've bought one on the strength of this review! It really does look like the unit I have been hoping for. I always end up just using about 6 or 8 tones mostly clean and I heard from the guys at Atomic yesterday that it will work well with an electro acoustic too, maybe with an additional IR. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Guitars remain traditional and slow to develop. People still love guitars made over 40 years ago but these things just get better and better. Just waiting for it to arrive.....superb service from Andertons as always.

+Maximilian Gall Ordered yesterday delivered 11:15am this morning. Brilliant service. I have spent hours playing with this thing. First of all just going through the presets which are all useable not like the myriad of weird unusable tones you usually find in there. Going straight in is giving me really good results. After a few hours I downloaded the software and did the upgrade which was very easy and easy to figure out, simple, logical and well thought out. a Some of the presets benefitted from a bit of compression and the Bassman and Vox tones are particularly good. Going on to the free preset spaces you can use the effects with your own amp and as was mentioned in the video it would be worth it just for this. This absolutely suits me down to the ground and I can't wait to get back to it tomorrow. There are a load of free presets to download already on the Atomic site and you can by other IRs if you want. It should take the market by storm.

+Maximilian Gall I'm using it into a Roland Blues Cube Stage. I really like this amp it sounds very tubelike but is light and easy to carry and the options allow you to get great tones at home or practice at 0.5 watt and gigging I only needed 15 watts. The only think now is I wish I had gone for the artist but only because it has an effects loop and the stage doesn't, so I could hear how the Amplifire sounds into the effects loop.

If I remember correctly, Axe FX is using 2x TigerSHARC DSPs which are a considerable performance improvement over the SHARC series of DSPs. The SHARC processors are much more affordable than TigerSHARC and are used in several Line 6 PODs and various other DSP units; Line 6 Helix for example is running a couple 450Mhz SHARCs. This is going to compare closer to that in just raw number crunching. Don't let performance values decide for you though. The real key to these modelers is in the finely tuned software. Just play what sounds good to you.

An expression pedal jack would be pretty cool.
