I have one of these and I can tell you that it sounds incredible through anything and at any volume. Active PA Speakers, nearly any guitar amp and front of house. When you plug it into one (or two) of the Atomic CLR Active Wedge it goes to a whole new level of amazingness. I just sold my entire Axe-Fx II XL rig and just use the AmpliFire now.

This video shows running through a power amp and not using the CAB simulation but IMO that is where this unit really shines. I'm using direct to FOH and have struggled for a long time to get amp like tones on a silent stage and the first time I dialed up a Plexi amp model and a third party Marshall IR, I was blown away. I'm getting amazing tones direct and using a couple pedals with it. Cant wait for Thorn or someone like that to demo direct so people can really see how great it is in that venue. You can't beat this product in this price range and I think once Atomic/Studio Devil get more time to start putting out some more amp models and refinements, this will likely be drawing a lot of people away from the higher priced modelers. Certainly destroys anything Line 6 is offering to date. Helix pending of course at three times the price.

Corey Wingate That ship already sailed with the original Sansamp years back, then the POD, DG Stomp, Digitech units, BOSS GT series, Eleven Rack, etc. This thing is just a pretty advanced form of it, but (as an example) an Eleven Rack new in box from Ebay and a Logidy ESPI will give more options, all the IR loading via the ESPI, and cost less than this box. We're in the era of "use what inspires you" digital stuff nowadays since the quality isn't RADICALLY different to the average listener like it once was. We live in the future, people!

After seeing this video I was convinced that the substitute for my 11R was going to be an AA. My AA12 arrived a couple of weeks ago, this unit is absolutely fantastic, I use it in the same way: connected to the return of my Marshall and without IR, no regrets! I bought one of the first atomic power amp that looked liked a blues breaker years ago from Tom. Then the transformer went out and as much as I called and talked to him he NEVER CAME THROUGH and just basically told me to screw off!! This was before he worked with fractal. It was a 6l6 power amp that you could put modeling templates unto the top.

I'm just going to come out and say it Rob. The Ghost Fret is one of the best looking guitars I have ever seen. You did an exceptional job with the design, and congratulations on all your successes. That is one killer guitar. Keep it up and your company will be up there with the big guys.

Another setup that sounds like a real valve tone and my personal favourite setup (tested this but sadly don't own it YET) using 1 Amp and cab, 3 pedals and a guitar with specific pickups. no way you could tell there you weren't playing through a valve amp if you couldn't see the amp itself. Amp : Blackstar iD 60/ 100 TVP-H (warm clean with a touch of spring reverb, ISF half into British side using Valve emulation setting of KT88's) Cab : Marshall slanted 4x12 loaded with Celestion vintage 30's (Pedals in order) Pedal 1 : Vox Big bad wah Pedal 2 : Blackstar HT-Distortion (with valve) (singing high gain for sweet sounding feedback, ISF copy amp, heavy low end) Pedal 3 : Ibanez Ts9DX Turbo Tube Screamer (used as a boost to enhance harmonics, help lengthen sustain and cut through a mix better, Mid/low gain, quarter level output, set to hot, tone at 3/4's) Guitar : Ibanez Premium RG870QMZ Pickups : ALL Di Marzio: Neck- Tone zone, Mid- True velvet, Neck - Air Norton Meant for screaming and singing leads if set properly even an OCD valve amp player will not notice the difference and will be floored by the sheer beauty of the tone. Use the tube screamer to make leads sing for solos or instrumentals and off during rhythm sections for powerful crunch and plenty of chug to satisfy any metal head, and to make leads more amazing slowly sweep the Big bad wah during tapping or legato sections and ..... well I'll leave that to you ton discover. enjoy :)

FYI Tom King stated on a thread in TGP that the power amp modeling of the AmpliFire was enabled the entire time during this video. Only the Cab setting was bypassed. So yes you are hearing this through the power amp of the Victory head and a real speaker cab, but you are also hearing the preamp and poweramp modeling of the AmpliFire as well. Because the amp head was set at relatively low volumes the real poweramp section of the amp was not causing 'non linearities or "tube flavor"' according to Tom.

Hey Rob, great video as usual. If I may add one critique, perhaps, in the future you could work toward a standard Quick & Dirty room mic'ng protocol, wherein you have your tiny mixer, your cam, your cab mic + your room mic, all feeding the camcorder. Just so that the audio doesn't sound so tin canned. It'd do products from guys like this, a whole lot of justice.

I have 3....2 AA12's and 1 AA3 and they sound amazing and all one needs if using a modeler for a solution. They might cost $600 new for a AA3 and I dunno $800 for the AA12, but I picked up the AA12s for about $500 and AA3 for $300!!...yes, $300. So powerful for that little bit of money.

My Eleven Rack decided to stop working after 7 years (Just stops att the boot screen) and I've had my eyes on the AA6 for some time now ! However after reading on the forum that the AA6 was just as prone to failure I decided to quit the whole amp modelling thingy all together !

While I am spamming the hell out of this thread, I should also relay that the I/O connections and the analog/digital audio converters are very high quality and are super quiet. Even on raging high gain settings the AmpliFire is very quiet compared to other modeling units that I own in it's price range. I don't even bother setting up a noise gate on most of my patches.

Rob, doesn't it just use the tubes in your poweramp when running it in to the fx-return? No wonder it sounds good. You should try this on a dry PA system or direct in to an audio interface.

Does this unit lets you use the 4 cable method? Can you change fx loop settings and block order within the Amplifire?

I use a Laney iron heart but the real high gain (which I use a lot) is a bit fuzzy and I lose a lot of low end when I turn the watts down would this help compensate for that by saving a good tone while using a killer tube amp?

I'd like to know, after testing and demo'ing the Amplifire and the Helix. Which is more responsive/dynamic/authentic? This was the first modelling device that to your ears, sounds like a valve amp. Was the Helix the second?
