ATS Escan Elite Review - Quick Tool Overview

I've finally had a chance to run through a few functions in a KZbin video for this tool. There are lots of questions about it particularly due to it's price. Here I show a general overview and some of the main features. I hope it shows some of the capability of the tool and answers some questions you all may have. Hands down best scantool for diagnosing drivabilty issues. Just bought mine and it definitely speeds up my diagnostic process. Thanks to the guys at automotive test solutions. This is a must have tool and the best engine diagnostic tool available. This tool will save a lot of time and teach the mechanic. Many mechanics just pull codes and than start replacing parts. Even if you use graphing on other scanners this will still point you in the right direction much faster. The tool talks to you as well and points out various issues like engine warm up time. My friends shop has mechanics that are too busy to learn how to just use the graphing on regular scanners and go to town with what they think is wrong. They recently had a 2006 Audi A4 that would rough rough and cut out after 1/2 hour of driving. They replaced the high pressure fuel pump, in-tank fuel pump, coils plugs, did compression test, oil pressure test. They could not figure out what was wrong. They asked me to look at it, the car was running in the lot when I got there for over 20 minutes running okay. I put the escan elite on it and the first think that popped up was engine running too rich and slow engine warm up time. I went into the engine warm up section in the Sharp Shooter section and the temp was stuck on 167 degrees and would not change while revving up and idling for another 10 minutes. This was a common problem on these Audi VW's back then. Coolant temp sensor failure with the exact symptoms. Had they had this tool they would never of wasted two days. This tool is cheap for what you get and will open the mechanics eyes up even if you're L1 and above this tool will still out pace any engine troubleshooting procedure and point you in the right direction much faster.

VE tool is very good at flushing out a MAF issue versus fuel delivery. Everything else I'm aware of that does this has to be calculated with the data points manually.

You didn't do the snap throttles on the CatEff test but still looks legit. That's about $2k of a tool and I hope it increases my speed of time spent on vehicles.

Thanks Grunter. Pretty big price tag only because I ended up getting mine through aeswave, so it got a bit expensive with AUD/US exchange rate plus shipping. Ozwidetools now distribute for ATS in Australia so I assume they may be the distributor for NZ also. Worth giving them a ring and finding out, might be a much better price direct through a local distributor!

What I really like the most about the Escan is the fuel trims and volumetric effencity tests as show color cells under load and comparisments in real time (simplifies things alot!). I'm gonna buy one, together with Bernies Escope - then I have everything for troubleshooting my car!

As a brother advice do not throw your money away by buying their worthless scanner, I wish I didnt buy it from them, it was the first mistake which I made in my life I regret for that be aware not to do so I warned you just for sake of God.

I've had this tool for 2 years. It's an overpriced graphic data interpreter. You can do all of these tests by yourself with a cheap scope or by reading live data and applying logic to what you see. It doesn't have bi-directional controls. It eats RAM and battery. The tool isn't going to do anything but confuse/mislead you if you don't know what you're don't to begin with.

Adjust DPI on your surface that will fix the screen issue. Price for that Generic Tool is way too high. I personally love the layout but do to it's huge limitations I would never own one.

Thanks Ralf, I'll have a look at the DPI. Yeah I think it just depends on what kind of work is coming through. If doing a lot of driveability issues, I do think it would pay for itself pretty quickly with time saved. I get what you're saying though, it's not for everyone.

@@romanosautomotive The only thing that changes more easy to identify interface any scan tool will give that data just not as easy to see. As for the Driveability, if you require Bi-Directional control you will be up the creek. All I am saying is that for that money one could source a used Autel or something that would provide provide a much higher level of control and functionality along with the ability to program. just like other PC based programs at that price point already give OE level coverage.

Ralf's Automotive Diagnostics & Repair or anyone please feel free to answer. If I were to follow your advice and look for an autel or other brand, is there a specific model you would recommend that would provide oe level diagnostics and fall just under the $1000 price range for a good gently used unit?
