Just FYI. You really need a fuse in ur positive wire near the battery.

@@SETTAPERFORMANCE it protects your bike. If you don’t have a fuse and you get a short your wiring will get hotter and hotter and potentially catch fire. Everything needs to be ran through a fuse box or have a fuse if it is connected directly to the battery.

@@SETTAPERFORMANCEI’m ordering a set of 2 light whips for my 2004 Polaris sportsman 400 and I’m just going to connect it to pre existing wires vs wiring it straight to the battery. I don’t do a lot of trail riding with it and the most I ride it at a time is probably 30-45 minutes so even if something could happen while I was riding it shouldn’t.

Wht type of wire and does it need inline fuse or resistor or both?

Wire shouldnt matter too much. I used 16 gauge wire but I think anywhere from 14-18 gauge will work just fine. I don't think throwing an online fuse in would be a bad idea but it's not required. No resistor is required either. Let me know if you have any other questions, thanks for checking out the video.

Cool vid but you connected everything without letting us know exactly what to connect to what part. I have a lighted whip but I don't know if I install it directly to the battery. If I do I don't know what wire goes to the positive and what wire goes to the negative. Can you explain this a bit more please?

Great point Sergio, I should have explained that part better. Did you end up getting it installed? In this video I installed it directly to the battery, but put a toggle switch in between the battery and the whip to cut the power when not in use. Does that make sense?

Sergio the Red Wire is positive.... and black is negative. I would check to see if you can ground the black wire instead of running straight to battery. By the way My Yamaha Warrior 350 has a wire running to the flag pole mount not sure what its for but my LED whip came in today tomorrow i will install it and figure things out the toggle switch is a good idea just need a good mounting spot

I dont know about your part of the country, but I dont understand why more quad or even dirt bike riders install these. Here in California for example Glamis, 99.9% of the people rocking whips are on SXS or Rzrs. Would be cool to have a whip on your bike incase you are riding back to camp and then sun is setting.

Are you saying you think more people should put them on quads, or they shouldn't? Personally I like them for two reasons, the primary reason is safety. I do think it makes it to see other riders at night or when the trail is dusty, etc. Also some places require a pole (and flag) so a light whip can cover this standard, all you need to do is add a flag. Also, I just think they are fun to play with 😂

Gotcha! I miss read the original comment, just re-read everything. I agree, they are great. Especially because there are trails/parks in parts of the Country where whips and flags are required. Solves that problem too!

That's a fair point, James. On a recent install I actually did install a switch. On this quad, since the battery was so close, I didn't want to worry about running additional wires all the way to the handlebars for a switch. Which I think is fine, just take the light whip off if you aren't going to be riding for more than a couple days. Just don't store your light whip on your machine, as I think many don't anyway as it's always best to remove it during transport. I also did not bring that up at all though, and you bring up a very valid point. So thanks for mentioning it!
