I have an S5 3.0 tfsi 2013 , on the part where the oil cap is the gasket cover screw number 1 (11:31) I noticed like a quarter tablespoon of oil over there...could it be a worn seal? how did the oil get up there? any help pls

You might have spilled a bit of oil when you added oil last time. Also, there is a gasket on the oil cap which wears out eventually. I suggest to wipe off the oil and replace the gasket on the oil cap or install a new oil cap. It you see new oil then probably time to change the valve cover gaskets.

Probably cracked valve cover… I’m experiencing it now and I have smoke and odor coming from passenger side vc after replacing my vc gaskets 3 months ago. Did you figure out what’s the cause for your case? I’m planning to replace mine with a new gasket

Thanks for uploading. I have a 2012 Audi S4 with 101k miles and a small oil leak (somewhere). I may be replacing the valve cover gaskets if I determine that is the source of the leak.

Is it normal for the car to smoke from the gaskets for a little after replacing them?

Meticulous and informative, as always. When you removed the covers I couldn't help thinking they were cut off of a Revell or Aurora polystyrene model frame with an X-acto knife.

What size pool plug did you end up using? 1", 1.5"?

About how long did it take you? My q7 with the same engine amd approximate mileage is leaking too. Trying to decide if it's worth letting a shop do it.

How did you torque the two fasteners to spec that were to get to?

Torque spec is so low that hand tightening it should be fine

Very true it’s certainly a rich mans car. My recommendation would be to find a good muffler shop to cut out the restrictive resonators and add something that offers more flow but is not just straight pipe. Best thing I ever did was add a resonated xpipe. Great video thank you

I didn't see you mention anything about the crankcase breather hose and how they are a complete pita to remove without breaking. Something worth discussing so people that are doing this job for the first time will be aware. Possibly the most difficult part of this job....

Silicon spray helps a little. PCV breather connectors are a pia when they get old and brittle.

The A4 was really intended for the 2.0t 4-cylinder engine which is fairly compact. The 3.0t is quiet bigger. How the hell Audi stuffed a 4.2 liter V8 in the previous generation S4 is beyond my comprehension.

9nm is NOT 12ft lbs as you say in the video. It’s 6.6ft lbs. I broke a valve cover bolt over torquing to 12ft 😢

Replace the valve cover itself. I have a 2013 S5 B8.5 W 122,000 miles. At 110,000 my valve cover was leaking I replace the valve cover n now it’s leaking again. Just replace it all. Btw I live in AZ
