The thing I find most beautiful is the wide open spaces you can explore. No one else around. Living in the southeast of England it’s so densely populated & everyone owns everything. A person loses touch with nature & can’t explore what we’re meant to be. Thank you showcasing the great outdoors. Cheers 🍻

I feel your pain mate. It's a shame that England is that way. Most of Europe is from what I believe. I don't take for granted the amount of access to beautiful public lands we have in Australia, and with a relatively low population. We're very lucky and hopefully it stays that way.

Gday Andy. I lived in the UK for 30 years and have now been living in Australia for the last 25. I know exactly what you are saying. Only 25 mins from where i live i have hundreds of hectares of native forest that i can virtually call my own. Hike, camp, mountain bike, it is just wonderful. Trouble is, these Aussies don't know how good they have got it. Regards Tony Bray.

Another good one, Scotty. That wetland is gorgeous -- but you won't get me anywhere near those mosquito/midge-infested swamps, though. LOL Re indigenous solutions to flies and mozzies: I read a white account from the C19th re some of the NSW/VIC tribes, that they traditionally used an all-purpose ointment with an animal fat base (possum fat?) on their skin. Sunscreen and insect repellent from natural sources were an important part of the recipe. The women would make it up, and each kept a supply in a small animal-skin pouch. Every man, woman and child applied this "grease" every day all over their exposed skin. It also kept their skin looking shining, glowing and healthy. More than one white observer remarked on this skin treatment -- but not many seemed to have realised that the ointment was not just a cosmetic, it was practical daily essential.

Very interesting mate. I've also read a similar account where some white settlers offered some meat to a aboriginal lady and the first thing she did was rub the fat through her hair (If I remember correctly, perhaps her skin as well.)

Like your channel, watch you and ABCamping from NZ a lot. Got some advice for you. It is about bee's, if you have a wild bunch of bee's ( like a travelling hive) turn up in your yard at home, where ever they may land, and you are worried about them, just get a few big handfuls of dry gum leaves, and set the pile up about 6 metres away from them and light the pile, so long as the smoke is going towards the bees. The smokier you can get the leaves the better. Within half an hour the bees will move off, thinking their is a bushfire coming. It is the safest way to get the bee's to move on, without harming them. Just a bit of useful info for you.

Fishing tip, if you get spiked by a flathead. Rub the belly slime of the flathead on the wound and it stops it stinging. Also good way to eat flatties is straight on the coals just gut them, leave the scales on. You just peal the skin off when it’s cooked it cooks in its own juices, yum and no washing up.

yes, in Canada, we have mosquitoes (hoardes of them), and black flies (they literally tear your skin when they bite causing swellings and an itch that lasts a few days), and no-see-ums (they burn when they sting), not to mention horse flies and deer flies which are attracted to your glistning body from sweat or water, and they are no fun either, especially when portaging a canoe. Good times!

if you get bitten or stung on your hand in the bush, best to remove any rings right away. There are plenty of things in Australia that can bite and lead to inflammation. A ring on a swelling hand without a grinder handy can pose a problem.

Great job on your channel! I love that you're in an Old Town canoe, the town and the manufacturing facility are both about 20 miles away from me, I've owned them since I was a kid! SO... if you go back to this spot, bring a small folding shovel, you can quickly cut a few steps in the muddy bank to climb up and down. You can cut the first few while you're still sitting in the canoe. Even if the spots collapse as you step on them, you'll still have a spot to stand. One more lesson I learned the hard way, so the next person can learn the easy way.

Hi Scotty, your experience with sand flies reminded me of a nightmare night at Hells Gate station on the Gulf of Carpentaria. The bastards were so made we packed up camp at 2,00AM and moved on. The few days later I was relating our story to an elderly Koori man, he told me his people rubbed charcoal into their skin to prevent sand flies from biting. I would have done that had I known. lol

G'day Scotty, thanks again for another great video mate. I don't often comment, but one thing I'd like to say is I recommend looking after your fishing gear so you get long life and good fish out of it. Always give your rod and reel a light spray with fresh water out of a squirty bottle, gentle wipe down and let air dry. Trust me mate it's better to look after the gear than to have it let you down. Also, a drop of reel oil every now and then will keep that reel working nice and smooth. Keep doing what you do mate. Yeow!! Cheers

Love watching everything you make it’s great escaping this crazy life with you. Can you recommend any books I can take on my journey that may help to identify Bush Tucker.

Well done Scotty another great Vid and as far as those bloody Midgies go my sister in law makes a brew of Citronella oil and I think Tea Tree Oil or Eucalyptus oil and my Brother says it works a treat and it would work for Mozzies and Flies as well and it's natural and pretty cheap keep them coming mate you make great content.
