The girl is every American kid in 2nd or 3rd grade when the teacher first hands the class the maps and tells them to label the states and that there is a time limit. I think every American kid does poorly the first time. They usually get their state and some neighbor states correct. Then their taught the states by region and that seems to help. Today the US territories and federal district are included in some schools as my niece had to learn those (though they’re learned as if they were a region themselves). When someone asks me to write the states down on a piece of paper, I write them by region starting with the New England region as that’s how I learned and memorized them. That’s also how I fill out the map. But yeah, seeing her and when she says “how do Americans know this there’s so many” I remember back to when I was in school after doing the US map labeling test for the first time and having similar conversations with classmates about the fact that there’s so many and how are we supposed to learn this! Considering it’s not something I would think is being taught in schools in Australia, I think they did a great job!
