Dahlin is awesome. Breakout season for him. He’s getting stronger and more confident with every shift. Matthews is not known for cheap shots, but I guess he underestimated Dahlin’s tenacity and didn’t like his pushback on the play. If you look very closely, you can see how Dahlin lifted his stick up against Matthews' stick and it binds up at the corner of Matthews' stick and glow for a small split second. The movement stops but Dahlin is still pulling Matthews' stick up. Matthews wanted to crosscheck Dahlin by shoving him to his arm. Dahlin keeps lifting his stick up and Matthews' stick ends up getting lifted to the neck level of Dahlin. Dahlin's stick continues its movement to Matthews' armpit indicating the still continued upwards pulling. This pulling upwards motion caused Matthews' stick to hit Dahlin's neck instead of arm.

If you watch it carefully, you can see Dahlin pushing him all those three times, no wind-up. On the other hand, Matthews wound-up both times he went after Dahlin, not closing in with the body, such a crybaby play from Matthews, with intent to actually hurt/injure the other player. Dahlin was just standing up for himself from the hit before, with bullying Matthews a bit with some pushes.

right at the beginning of this clip Matthews takes one, then two more crosschecks, and once again no calls from the refs to stop it before the retaliation... if you've never played hockey beyond your recliner, I can tell you these things start from inaction of refs to control goonery

This is a great example of what happens when the ref doesn't do his job! He should have called a penalty on Dahlin immediately after the first crosscheck or the first shoving down of Matthews. The ref let this (again) go too far.

No humility, They always find a scapegoat when they get beat out in the playoffs (1st round), but during the regular season -- "We're the best team! Stanley Cup, baby!" Plus, the sports talk radio announcers pump them up like they're the '82 Islanders or '85 Oilers when they're winning. They talk about Marner as if he's Gretzky, and Matthews is the second coming of Christ. Good players, but eeeeasy boys, easy.

Substandard goaltending can drive the best of superstars to distraction. TO cannot afford to lose Matthews to an unnecessary suspension. The NHL is focussing on cross checking this year so it will be interesting what comes about....probably nada.
