Definitely like the styling much much much better than previous. Still undecided on the new drive-train but once they work the bugs out I expect it will be better than the previous generation old-school drive-train, especially where low end torque and efficiency are concerned...

More power and MPG is good, but remember people who buy off-road vehicles don't buy them for power and MPG. They buy them for a reliable platform to build upon, and to not leave you stranded some where in the middle of no where. Until Toyota can prove these are reliable trucks for this new generation, no one cares about power and MPG.

I have two essential dislikes towards 2025 Toyota 4Runner: 1. Complication, small engine, i4 turbo, + or - hybrid, reliability will go down and long term cost of ownership will increase for sure, let alone the resale will go down because of the previous mentioned reasons. 2. Price, which is partially a result of point 1. to which I might add the increased cost of ownership and loss in the resale value. Conclusion: I will take anytime the 2024 and discard 2025 Toyota 4Runner. Toyota lost it's path, sadly... BTW, I like AutoJeff Reviews but I cannot give this video a thumbs up, I understand you're selling cars for a living but the new Toyotas are not what they used to be.

Dont Like: You cannot use cruise control without active radar. A majority of these active radar systems are way to conservative. My current vehicles have them (21BMW X7, 21GMC Sierra) and I cannot turn off the BMW Active radar but I turned off Active Radar on the GMC day 1 of ownership and will never turn it back on) . The ability to turn off active radar is a feature that sways my purchase decisions. Like: Thankfully they have upgraded the technology with sensible features like a powered cargo door, Wireless Android / CarPlay, a full-time camera-based rearview mirror ( Love this feature in the GMC's) and it still has the industry-only powered cargo window that is a fan favorite for my dogs.

I head a lot of bad stories about it, mostly glitches, I am sure over time it can be better,, but one big drawback I heard is when you need it most, the AWD mode may quit, on the contrary, you can push the old 4x4 harder at low range, although the power is not 100% distributed, better has something than nothing when you need it most.

New 2024 5th Gen owner here. The general concern I have about the 2025 6th Gen is engine longevity. Is the new 6th Gen engine going to go the distance that the 5th Gen has a proven track record for? Is this new engine going to last 300k, 500k plus miles without having significant maintenance issues as long as you keep the oil changed and preventive maintenance up to date on it? The answer is to be determined by what 6th gen buyers experience. For the exorbitant price tag the 6th Gen is going to have, is the juice really going to be worth the squeeze? I don’t want to be the guinea pig to find out so I’m going to let someone else buy it first and see what they experience.

Love the styling of the 6th Gen especially that TrailHunter edition! The biggest ding for me is the lack of rear air controls. Wish they would switch to overhead air like the Land Cruiser. Those two small vents coming off the back of the console leave the second row stuffy and if you carry your dog with you in the cargo area it is miserable for them with no air vents. I still am very concerned about price. If the TRD Pro and TrailHunter are anywhere near the price of the TRD Pro Tacoma I think you’ll see a lot of people opt for the similarly priced Land Cruiser with the taller body and offroad capability.

Will all the 2025 4runner trims have those cool black fenders around the wheel? Or just the TRD Pro and Trail hunter? Asking because the Limited fenders have the matching body color so I’m curious what all the other trims will have?

Based on these newer prices, sort of glad I got my 23 GX460. All wheel drive and great stereo along with full time ATRAC and MTS with crawl control. And a rather proven NA V8 that can knock out 21-22 mpg on the road. Anxious to see what the MSRP will be for the Trailhunter.

Im all in. Trailhunter is looking great. Time will tell how these "new" 4runner engines/powertrains stand up to time. Will this Gen fit into the LEGENDARY reliability history for Toyota. I love my 3rd Gen. 25 years and going strong.

I know 2025 can "fly". But why? Why to fly? Why do I need to create so much pressure in the smaller size engine I am sure very well designed? Driving mid to large SUV by definition does not mean to fly. What am I missing? I don't disregard new technology and I'm sure 2025 4R is going to be a very well designed generation, but only time will tell. And lets not forget Toyota made new engines just because tremendous government pressure to meet imaginary "green" emission targets. So if those new Tundra/Sequoia/Tacoma/4R engines will stand a time trial - I will be the first one to applaud and recognize the Toyota Engineering efforts and achievement given the scarcity circumstances. But for now, I'll stick to my Toyota 5.7LV8. Till it happens... Great review Jeff, as always. With love from Vancouver, British Columbia,.

Because people are morons. They want faster SUVs so they can race to the red light faster. Better power even though they don't tow with them. MORE technology, yet they are shocked when the dash lights up like Christmas tree. Giant, goofball "infotainment centers" even though we are supposed to be trying to mitigate distracted driving. The masses are just dumb and Toyota is following the market trends. It's the movie 'Idiocracy' but in real life.

Any performance difference between 4 Runner limited and platinum?
@davidparkin90173 ай бұрын
What would I do to the old 4Runner? For the 5 speed automatic transmission, I would develop an 8 speed automatic transmission. For the old 4 litre, Toyota's own 3.5 litre 6 cylinder that has nearly as much torque but much better fuel economy would suit. Then find a way to shed 400 pounds. Smooth out the exterior design so that it is less chunky. Give it a little Range Rover looks.
@Jsfrog25 күн бұрын
Have a 2018 SR5 Premium. Sluggish? YES! Nothing like the good old (pre electronic/computers in cars) days with actual metal throttle cables between the pedal and carburetor. Fix? Banks Power Pedal Monster. MUCH better. Tunable acceleration. Not more power, but WAY more responsive. Pull out in traffic and just GO!

If they would just combined the new styling with a more powerful naturally aspirated V6 and an 8 speed transmission!!! That would sell like hotcakes 🎉

I’m not hating or protesting the 6th Gen, but I’m curious about 2nd row leg room / head room, and reliability with a brand new platform. The Tacoma stories I’ve heard have me a little worried. I’m sure everything will be sorted over time. The 5th Gen and every other Toyota ever made, was improved over time.
@augustb75354 ай бұрын
The 5th gen will be the last of its kind that will not only retain value but that will actually qualify to be a 4Runner. But hey maybe this will outlast, and keep up with previous generations.

Personally I think the styling for the both Tacoma and 4Runner are fantastic...the dimensions hit the mark and very modern lines. It would have been a grand slam if they gave optional 6cyl variants for both...and kept a v8 in the tundra. I get the push for CAFE standards that all OEMs are facing but would be the only complaint in my eyes.

Looks and colors is so not the real topic. Price and known reliability loss. Every mechanic will tell you a turbo charged engine will not last as long as a naturally aspirated engine. Unless Toyota has some secret sauce I hope they tell us but everyone buying these vehicles will smell the bs a mile away. We already have other trucks that aren’t starting out their revamp well. Salesmen will have their hands full in afraid. I think there’s too much focus on form rather than function. Toyota has seriously underestimated the psychology involved here.

It’s not the 2.4, it’s the turbo. The issue is that people don’t take care of their vehicles. I owned an oil change business, and it was shocking how poorly vehicles are maintained. Turbos need to be taken care of. They will fail likely due to lack of care, and people will cry when they get the bill to replace one.
@tonymarinelli73044 ай бұрын
How do you properly care for a turbo?
@SuckerFreeGear4 ай бұрын
@@tonymarinelli7304 Follow engine oil change schedule and follow proper maintenance schedule for your turbo motors as the turbos themselves require their own lubricants. It's all written in the owners manuel. Most people in North America think an oil change and tire rotation every 10k miles is "good enough".

Had absolutely NO interest in a 6th gen 4R, so I got a '23 Limited in charcoal gray metallic with the redwood leather interior. Having the tried and true 4.0 V6, 5-speed automatic, full-time 4wd, locking center differential, and still being MADE IN JAPAN were easy selling points for me. The 6th gen does not offer a normally-aspirated 6 cylinder, and it's not made in Japan anymore, so those were two strikes against it. And if initial sales and reliability issues are a concern for someone looking into a 6th gen 4R, you'll be better off with a 5th gen, if you can find one. They'll hold their value a lot more than these early 6th gens will.

Hello Jeff, from Ouray, Colorado! Thank you very much for this orientation run down of the pending 2025 4Runners! We have a 2019 4Runner Off Road. Since it is our traveling vehicle, we are considering updating it within the year. I really really like the adaptive cruise feature (which we don't have currently). And, since we live in a backcountry mecca with all of the old mining roads to explore, we'd also prefer it to continue to have a bit more off road features vice the gucci trims. We don't off road on super technical trails; so I don't foresee a need for the TRD Pro. Colors-- hmmmm--this is technically, my wife's vehicle. So, she gets to pick the color. My guess is that green ish color is what she may favor. Then again, we have a red vw bug and a red F350 too; she may prefer a louder color such as that. Thank you for what you do! PS. Yes....I am liking the new overall appearance. THANK GOD it isn't like the new Chevy trucks transition to this massive front grill/in your face/with very non standard headlights type look. I am sure many many folks will chime in about the transition from 6 cylinder to 4 cylinder and such. I'm not a big engine tech guy, so I am generally indifferent. I definitely did not get a 4Runner to win 0-60 races. We just want it to get us there; which includes traversing national forest roads and old mining roads here in Colorado. Since this would be somewhat our retirement vehicle, I feel like we would steer away from the hybrid model as I just don't want to hassle with a mega battery after I've quit working.

My 2016 is still rock solid @ 176000 km. If you use the manual setting, performance is fine. This vehicle weighs over 5000 lbs, as heavy as a 1/2 ton. 4 banger turbo less reliable. If you tow like I do, there is no way you'll get the reliability or economy.
