Step back into the pitch meeting and revisit the completely factual accurate conversation hat led to James Cameron's Avatar! Complete with commentary from Ryan George who is now several years older!
Subscribe for more Pitch Meetings: / @pitchmeetings
James Cameron’s Avatar took the world by storm in 2009, securing its spot as one of the highest grossing movies of all time. Isn’t it kind of weird then that it barely seems to have had any impact on pop culture? To find out why that is, let’s step inside the pitch meeting that led to the world of Pandora, the Na’vi, and a whooooole lot of thinly veiled racial stereotypes. What led to the decision to have giant blue kitty kats? Why don’t the multimillion dollar Avatars have ANY tracking capabilities? What’s up with the super generic villain? All these questions and more are answering in this pitch meeting! It’s super easy, barely an inconvenience!

@ExInfamous
@ExInfamous 4 ай бұрын
I mean the tails in general are not inherently sexual. They provide an emotional link and establish a much deeper bond between the two who are linked. The banshee scene was not at all weird if you compare it to how a wild, or generally rambunctious, horse is broken into submission to the point that it becomes rideable. Its literally the exact same thing except you're able to communicate emotionally and, again, build a substantially deeper bond on mutual trust instead of fear and pain. Of course the Na'vi link when having sex but day to day they likely use it much more as a tool to control their mounts than to have sex. I can definitely see how some people can see it as weird seeing as how they hardly explain it besides showing it off in only like two scenes, one of which was a sex scene. Its something that a casual watcher would kind of have to piece together themselves or look up to understand what they were going for.
@CGV_CTown23
@CGV_CTown23 4 ай бұрын
Visual Metaphors are Tight (but seriously, it’s both.) Instead of limiting the definition of what sex is, give a thought to broadening your definition of personal connection. The tails add something really important most action movies lack, which is some kind of mature presentation of sex and sexual origin. Alien has its face huggers, Aliens has its queen. Blade Runner has its clones seeking out their father. Great movies do this. And it’s okay at the same time to crack wise about how they go about it, which is what Ryan did so beautifully.

I hadn't seen this particular Pitch Meeting, I've never even seen Avatar, and had no desire to. One of the things I love about your scripts is that you clearly understand story, structure, character, and all of the other things nobody in Hollywood seems to remember anymore, and the commentary section of this revisit shows that even more. In a way these are valuable educational tools as well as good entertainment. I direct a lot of dubbing and one direction I'm often giving the actors is: don't make this expository dialogue sound expository.

It is _super easy_ for me to understand you: I write poetry as a hobby, as a way to analyse and criticize myself, while providing as much insight and wisdom I can (and hope to) gift. Being a computer scientist makes everything harder since time easily runs out at the end of the day. Despite all of this, I still keep the "lantern" lighted up, in order to both _be_ a light and search for meanings. You could do it as well, both as a way to express your emotions and understanding of the World (in all of its absurdities and blurry shades) and your principles and dreams! :D It's sadly likely that most of your writings will be forgotten, like mine, but _surely_ there is and there will be some writing that will have both value and meaning to someone, even if you won't know. But you will help. =) And it's likely that some of the most appreciated writings are those that "flows out naturally", no matter how _you_ will later judge them =) just .. _let it be_ =) I wish you all the best ^^

Your pitch meetings make me laugh! I have watched most of them, esp for movies that I've seen. I keep coming back because of the template/rhythm of them - there's always the point where the guy asks a question and the other guy says, "Nope, it was super easy, barely an inconvenience!" I laugh every time. So much of movies these days has a template, like where the producer will brush off the issue of "why does this character do that" and always won't care because there is money to be made. I especially like it when the Pitch Guy says, You need to get all the way off my back about that!" And the producer does because there's money to be made. "Because it makes the movie go!" is a typical answer. OMG, you do so many great things in these pitch meetings, and point out so many hilarious ways that movies get made "just because someone wanted it that way." :D

You are an amazing actor. All of your characters sound, look and feel like individuals. You do a very good job breaking down the 'suspension of belief' aspect of films and give us, the mesmerized viewing audience, the opportunity to see just how easily we were tricked into following the story. You save us money (no need to go see that movie, I already did and Ryan George's review is much better then the movie), and you make us laugh out loud :) thank you for all of your hard work and thank you for the hours of laughter you bring us. You talked about getting more comfortable with the characters and being a guy who learned about this series more recently and binged so much, it is neat to see that growth. What sticks out is how bold and over the top these characters have become which somehow makes them more believable and fun. I can't imagine that was an easy idea to settle in to. How did you find that sweet spot of popping the lines off sharper and harder (SUPER easy, BARELY an inconvenience!) which are so over the top yet comedically so perfect? Twice a month sounds like a much more manageable timeline. I would rather have 1 or 2 quality videos a month rather than a quick one every week. People don't account that you still have to study the movies you're using (unless you're just entirely basing this on memory) and gather the clips/resources and then come up with the script. Even without the filming it's a lot of time out of your week. Making your deadline a whole month should be a good balance for your life. Plus I don't think this is the kind of content that viewers will abandon should you decide to take a month off at some point. But I still enjoy them and hope you can carry your passion for many years to come. You do good work.
