Philips OLED+910 and OLED+950 TV models for 2025 will use the LG Display Four Stack Primary RGB Tandem Panel and not MLA or QD-OLED technology. They also feature new P5 Picture Processors with the OLED+950 sporting the dual engine. Both get four-sided Ambilight and new colour volume performance from the Four-Stack panels. It's not a binary choice: Built-in audio OR home theater system. If you don't care about sound, you can buy a display and then spend as little as you want on the sound reproduction. You can grab a $10 pair of laptop speakers from Goodwill and plug them into your display. Let's make this clear: Separating _separate_ functions is less wasteful, saves money, and allows for more choice. One scenario means many people pay for something they don't need. The other scenario means no one pays for anything he doesn't need. But then, there will always be cheap options for the people who would be forced to enable subtitles if their displays came without speakers.

@@George-hl2xm If you are going to pay for the top end visual experience, then you shouldn't be satisfied with the worst audio. Don't need full surround system but a good soundbar will be substantially better than anything they can squeeze into the tv.

All TV makers should have all ports with full bandwidth, not just 2. PS5, XBox Series X and PC require HDMI 2.1 with more than 30GB/s, presumably Switch 2 will as well, even if games are natively rendered below 4K, less demanding games may require 4K 120FPS output. TV should have more than 4 HDMI Ports as well, for those that have 4 HDMI 2.1 gaming devices and other devices, like streamers, a soundbar for their surround sound needs. There's no reason why Philips and other TV manufacturers can't use built HDMI Switches and include more than 4 ports easily.

Its good that Philips now have a premium 77 inch OLED option. Ambilight is awesome but I’d imagine the 83 equivalent inch LG G5 will likely go for similar money to the 77 inch 950 which could make it a hard sell. Philips aren’t as widely available as other brands and it might be hard to showcase Ambilight effectively in a bright shop environment. The 2 chip Philips OLED+950 may offer some improved picture quality options over their competitors.

Dear Mr. Hinton, I think all TV companies are playing with us we the customers, adding new numbers and letters every year, our new TVs have 20-40% more lighting, and many other stories like that..they present us as new model TVs. I ask you as an expert, what are the real differences between 4 years ago OLED, MINILED and others TVs and this year's 2025 TVs. For example, there is no change in Samsung 8K TVs in 4 years. Regards

He’s talking about the Mediatek Pentonic SoC. Pentonic 1000 is more powerful but only supports has 2 48Gbps ports. Pentonic 800 is the new one that can do 4 48Gbps ports but is less powerful than the 1000.

Better? Nah, but there’s more sizes and LG’s probably selling them dirt cheap. Colors on QD-OLED are still much better (look at the wavelength graphs or the color saturation graphs and you’ll see just this), but the Tandem panel is better than regular WOLED. If they can go straight RGB, with no white sub pixel, that’s when the game will really change.

I don't like LCD but for a cheaper spare room TV I bit the bullet & went Samsung, soon broke & returned to shop, swapped for Panasonic, same result. Went with Philips & touch wood far better quality, I've been surprised as the years have passed. Looking for oled I checked out Philips last year only to notice they'd dropped 4 sided ambilight down to 3. Glad it's back as is now my interest 👍

I’ve purchased dozens of tv’s in my lifetime from different manufacturers, Samsung, Sony, Vizio, LG, Panasonic, TCL, and never has any one of them broken within weeks. In fact I still use a 10 year old Vizio in one of the bedrooms and it works great. The fact that you purchased two sets that immediately broke is, what we in the industry call, BS.

Tandem 4 stack does have a narrower color gamut than QD-OLED, but the question is how much narrower? If these new Tandem WOLEDs do 80% of REC2020 and QD-OLED does 85% of REC2020, 5% is a noticeable difference but it's really close. QD-OLED is more expensive for the manufacturers, that is for sure...which is a big reason why they're going the Tandem WOLED route.

The usual BT2020 value of qd oled is 85.7% that xy, and LG tandem oled Bt2020 value is 83.07%, Qd oled 1976 uv bt2020 value is 91% and lg tandem oled 1976 uv bt 2020 value is 87%, the uv part of the colour gamut is not as important as the xy value, so the gap has narrowed significantly, the advantage of tandem oled is sustained brightness, lg g5 can do upto 2400nit in film maker mode

but QD-OLED has raised blacks which are very apparent in a brightly lit room. not a problem with Tandem OLED. Tandem OLED is also 500 nits brighter than the current QD-OLEDs. the raised blacks and matte finish of Samsung are a deal breaker for me. Samsung plans on using matte finish for their entire OLED line.

@@paulcanniff4308 QD-OLED has raised blacks because the matte anti-glare coating from last year creating it only in daylight giving it a milky coating. Seems to be improved for the 2025 models calling it the 2.0 anti-glare. Tandem OLED brighter not sure what you talking about as QD-OLED can reach 4000 nits in a 3% window and 400 nits on full screen

Lots of hype, fluff and marketing speak in this interview in my opinion. WOLED, even when using the new 4 stack technology, is still inferior to QD OLED, especially in terms of BT 2020 color gamut. Tandem may be brighter than MLA,, but the Samsung Quantum Dot S95F can produce 4,000 nits this year using less energy AND produces true RGB rich colors. So where's the advantage to Tandem Oled other than it's cheaper to make than MLA ? As I said, lots of marketing speak and BS.
