Good save on the CR comment Tim. Glad the guy helped point it out. I agree that this is going to be an exciting year for the midsized market. That 2.7 in the GM twins is a killer and I am optimistic that they "tuned" the transmission for better results.

Personally, I don't mind if I have to take a new Truck back to the Dealership one time for a new transmission as long as I am in love with the way the truck looks, drives, comfort, ect, ect. Its my money, my time and my life and how I choose to live and make choices is my bussiness. Being a GM retired employee also helps on knocking of 4 or 5k on the MSRP. I just ordered Canyon btw.

Interesting to look at all midsize at once and see the trends across segments. Most seem to revolve around electronic issues manifesting in mechanical symptoms (aka transmission or engine issues)

Just like the Full truck rating survey. GM and Chevy in last place again. They must be hurting? Even though Ram was 1st place. I must say Toyota has a lot more consistency with higher ratings over the years. Why can’t the others keep the same consistency as Toyota? Nice video Tim as always. 👍

Because other automakers want to reinvent the wheel every few years by doing complete redesigns on their models. Toyota on the other hand is very conservative and only does mild refreshes and incremental changes, that's why the Tundra took forever to be redesigned and it became a bulletproof model as far as reliability goes.

Honda V6 has cylinder deactivation on the back 3 cylinders. It makes the truck stumble when it turns those cylinders back on. It also causes the plugs to foul as miles pile up. They should have a switch to turn off this feature.

I owned a 2020 Tacoma TRD Offroad for about a year and I absolutely hated it. The worst driving truck I've ever owned, by far. I always take CR rankings with a MASSIVE grain of salt because their data pool is extremely limited, so I wouldn't take it to the bank.

Thanks Tim, I really enjoy your videos about dependability and durability. For me this is the topic I am most interested in. On and off road capabilities and fancy electronics are great but pointless if broken. I also subscribe to and follow CR, any thoughts on going out and doing an external video of their testing? Could even reach out to other sources like JD Power as well as well.

the only way to know if GM's 8 speed revision fixed anything is to touch 75k to 150k or dismantling one, as it has been well documented that any kind of power will make that transmission grenade in spectacular ways and since the new 2.7' has a higher power celing... im eager to see if either GM will get bit in the ass for their awful product or they finally made it decent...

Most reliable 2023 midsize trucks??????? How could they be rated when most of these trucks are not even on the road yet? What is CR talking about?
@Pickuptrucktalk

Simple - past performance. You can't wait until they are on the road. People need information to help their buying decision. I get asked about reliability on future vehicles all the damn time.
@IamGroot786
@IamGroot786 Жыл бұрын
They're looking at data (Owners feedback) on the same model for last few years, especially if it hasn't been fully redesigned. When there's complete redesign, like with the Colorado now, my guess is they have to take into account the brand's overall performance in the past.

@Ford Maverick Maniac it's not worth it. I have a maverick xl ecoboost awd. Rust bottom. Cheap plastic. When u accelerate it sounds like a drill. The cab is so noisy. The materials they used to build it so cheap. If u get the lariat trim it's almost 40k. At that price a tacoma and ridgeline is a better buy.

I have a Maverick. Some of the parts are cheap but they work well and look good, simple. I got it at MSRP and very happy with it. No rust. I have the hybrid- drives quiet and acceleration is good. I have a loaded Lariat. With everything I wanted it was under $34k and getting 46 mpg in mixed driving. Very worth it and I could sell it for more than I paid for it.

I traded in a XLT Maverick that I bought for about $28 (also with the luxury package and a few other nice options. I'm very, very happy with my Maverick. The downside was I had to wait a long time after I ordered it. I think they've raised prices a little bit but they are still a better value than most other vehicles. There is also the psychology that is not accounted for in CRs surveys and rankings. It’s about the type of people that purchase various brands and models, and that they are willing to fill out a survey, etc. In addition to that the age of those that rely on CR and complete these surveys trend to the older demographic.

Tim hates the fact that foreign automakers are always on top of reliability lists. Lol it’s so easy to see he’s partial to domestic, especially Ford products. Which is fine. But we just want facts. Not him trying to sprinkle his biases to try to change views 🤷🏻‍♂️

I completely disagree with this. Tim knows that the Tacoma, Tundra, Ridgeline, Frontier, and Titan are all made in the United States thus making them Domestics.
