This band series has been fantastic. I've been re-evaluating a lot of my exercises and trying to use bands instead of dumbbells and while there are times where I still prefer the pump I get from weights overall there are several exercises where using bands not only gives me a bigger pump and more muscle soreness but the range of motion is usually better and as such I have seen gains in areas where I had started to plateau. Thank you so much for these videos James. You rule!
@dmac54724 жыл бұрын
And nowadays with gyms closing, James' programming and series is even more useful. I've always had atleast 1 resistance cable or some improvise weight ever since the teen yrs(37 now) but I was never really consistent. I like how James has provided a strong way for ppl to stay fit using what can be a cheaper alternative to gym memberships(tho I have one) and with the ease and convenience of working out anywhere. It takes most of the excuses out of the picture.

Used bands with barbell and cage in last 4 years, reverse method, benchs, reverse rows etc added often chains too, they work great, in last 3 months decided to use just bands for back, i have bands up to 250 lb total resistance, back improved, just use bands as weights: Add reps a/o resistance, muscle need tension, it doesn't know difference between iron and rubber 🙃

pointtheblame honestly I’ll advice getting all the various sizes of bands (if you don’t already have em) because they can all be used for different workouts and the difference in resistance helps and changes how every workout feels. I got mine in 5 different sizes and try to workout everyday and from my experience, the bands are worth it and help me feel that great pump and soreness that I’ll normally get from weight training. Definitely gonna incorporate bands into my workouts when the current situation is over.

I have been using bands for couple of months now. The technique definitely takes a lot of practice and it's hard to get the feel on some exercises. My biggest problem with bands is that I don't like how they strain my hands and make my hands hurt more than on free weights even with gloves on. I have yet to decide whether I will use free weights or bands most frequently.
@fullxeclipse3 жыл бұрын
You can purchase some grips or handles to help with that.
@stevenzak1996 жыл бұрын
I agree that bands are great, though I'm curious why you only use the looped kind and never the straight kind (e.g. Bodylastics) with a carabiner at each end. I do like the idea of taking a week or two off of weight training and just doing bands, though I think a band shortcoming is that the amount of resistance is less precisely measured (you back up a bit, or choke up a bit, but you get how much resistance exactly?). I also like bands combined with weights -- e.g., for bench press, a straight-type band hooked to an ankle strap at one end of the barbell, threaded under the bench, then up to the other end of the barbell. You get weight resistance at the bottom, then ever-increasing band resistance as you press up.
@Brockthedog3156 жыл бұрын
Steven Zak I definitely prefer bodylastic bands. They also have the string inside the rubber band so that if they break they won’t snap and injure you.
@stevenzak1996 жыл бұрын
True, and they're more versatile for combining with barbells for, e.g., squats and bench presses. That said, I can see why James would like the looped kind, if only because you can grab them anywhere without your hands slipping to the ends as they do with slick bands like Bodylastics. Which is why I have both.
@thethinker92676 жыл бұрын
That's a bit difficult to answer seeing as bands get progressively "heavier" as you stretch them, i.e. using the yellow at its fullest length and just beyond completely slack might "weigh" just a couple of pounds. However, if you've already stretched it, say 10 inches for example, its "weight" starts to increase exponentially. But you probably already knew this obviously. What I did was to experiment quite a bit. At this stage I'm very familiar with my bands. I know what band to use at which length, to fail at 12 or 13 reps for my first set for a particular exercise. If I want to progress, I know which bands to use in combination, and at which length, to fail at 10 or 11 reps for my second set. And so on, and so on. I'm very anally retentive, so I constructed an entire worksheet containing what bands to use at which lengths for what exercises. If I'm eventually able to do more than 13 reps on my first set I use a different combination or different band entirely on my next workout for that particular muscle group and that particular set. Not as simple as free weights where the weight is written in big bold lettering on the sides, but if you know your bands it's a piece of cake. The best would be to have multiple thinner bands - not just one or two. Maybe three or four.
@Mr2004MCSS5 жыл бұрын
Loop bands are more versatile as you can do quite a few more exercises that are not attached to something compared to Bodylastics bands. You can also attach loop bands around objects a lot easier. You have to have some type of attachment accessory to attach Bodylastics to objects because Bodylastics does not recommend wrapping the band around something and then putting the band through the caribiner. I have had Bodylastics bands since 2012 and love them as well but I prefer loop style bands.
@deanwaller82835 жыл бұрын
Honestly?why would you care about measuring the "weight" with bands? All that matters are the results,who cares how much it weighs?
