Okay… I won’t attempt to defend the creepy comments… BUT, I will say (as an English teacher) that words evolve over time (even small spans of time, meaning, a few years)…

Ew... cringefest for sure. 'These young girls deserve all of Bela's affection!' Awkward is the least of it. I'm not sure which is worse - this awfulness or Elfi and co. constant put downs of gymnasts they decided they didn't like. Which was that competition, slips my mind at this moment, where there was a Russian girl on the floor and Elfi said something like, she couldn't believe that Russia had put someone as awful as this girl up on floor, she was just useless? 2005/6, around there I think. Just nasty commentary, not necessary at all and adds nothing to anyone's experience of the sport.
