' I don't think I know Gary" Oh you've seen Gary Oldman several times on the channel. He plays Sirius Black in the Harry Potter movies, Comissioner Jim Gordon in the Batman/Dark Knight movies, and Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg in the Fith Element. Of course he looks so different in every role he plays it's often very hard to differentiate one role from another. He's a literal master of disguise. Gary also played Dracula in "Bram Stoker's Dracula1' from 1992 directed by Francis Ford Coppla (the same guy who directed The Godfather), the movie is fairly decent, but if you're gonna get into Dracula i recommend starting with the old black and white movie from 1931 with Bela Lugosi.

It's always good to rewatch Gary Oldman in just about anything. I really do love his truly unhinged performances. I love when he is given an absolute madman and goes exactly as over-the-top as his role demands. I think that EEEEEEEEVVVVVVERRYYYYYOOOOONE agrees that he's an iconic master of dialing up to 11. That being said, I think my favourite thing he's done in recent years is Jim Gordon-first Lieutenant, later Commissioner Gordon-in the Christopher Nolan Batman films. He knows, always, what the role demands, and what will make the film a better movie. It's such a joy to see him restrained, muted, relying on the subtlety of his acting skill to give us a very rich everyman to the operatic gods flying around the screen in huge swooping movements. It's a masterclass in balancing a picture. He's so perfect opposite Heath Ledger precisely BECAUSE he doesn't go "full Joker" while Heath is doing the same thing. He's certainly capable. If you've seen The Professional, or Fifth Element, or Immortal Beloved, or even Sid & Nancy, he has a box of fireworks in his acting trunk and like children, we delight when he pulls it out. But what a fine craftsman we have in Oldman. It's a pleasure to see him in arthouse films, in tense dramas, in cartoony superhero films. I would dearly love to see him in a broad comedy, because I bet he'd be hilarious. And he's good here, too. However good or bad this film would have been without him, it's one step better because he's there. It always is.

Yes, that was her first film role and this was her second. She pretty much retired from acting after that. She is credited under the name Liesel Matthews, but her actual (maiden) last name is Pritzker, as in the very wealthy Pritzker family.

If you haven't seen them yet, somewhat similar movies with Harrison Ford are "Patriot Games" and "Clear and Present Danger." I vote "Invasion of the Body Snatchers," as I think that's the more iconic role for Sutherland.

One thing you didn't notice, perhaps because it's been so long since you watched it, is that Air Force One is one of many action/thrillers that were pretty obviously modeled on Die Hard -- some sort of incident in an enclosed space with one guy trying to secretly work their way through the villains to defeat the big bad. Hopefully that inspires you to return to the Die Hard movies so we can get to Die Hard With a Vengeance, which is maybe the best one.

omg.. ya know - I didn't think about die hard during this but you're so right. and NOW I WANNA WATCH MORE DIE HARD

The escape pod is fully a fictional addition though, where it ejects from, is where the main landing gear are located. lol

So, when the president is not on board the plane... the actual jet is referred to as Angel. The surrounding fighters that joined AFO is called the Halo.

Funny...and ironic that the Boss hijacker mentions the president playing God. Which is spot on for this reality.

That's not true, unless it changed since I was at Andrews. It's call sign is SAM 28000 or 29000, depending on which of the 747s is flying. SAM is Special Airlift Mission.

I barely even hit play and I am HERE FOR THIS! I saw this in theaters when I was way too young and I don't even care. Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman *chef's kiss*. I'm so glad you watched this on the channel and not just with "hubbin".

I love that you referenced Brushy Mountain, which I remembered from The Silence of the Lambs. I'd forgotten that that prison, and the fictional US Senator who references it in the film, are both from your home state! Also, the minute you said that, I googled it, hoping I would find out that the Russian prison scene was indeed filmed at Brushy, but actually, it's the Ohio State Penitentiary in Mansfield OH, the same prison where Shawshank was filmed.
