Do you think you could have found a way to survive this?
@Aunimations2 жыл бұрын
@AyChristene if you think this is scary, think about gamma rays, which happen when a massive star explodes and sends out rays of very hot material and if that were to happen next to the Earth if the gamma ray would hit us, then we would all die instantly there would be no way to stop it, so yeah I'm scared of that now :,) but do not fear! That's pretty rare to happen!

Kurzgesagt is pronounced as _kurts-guh-zaakt_ and this was a cool video. If the lunar orbit decayed such that it would hit Earth over a long time, it would be torn apart and give Earth its own Saturn Rings and would be awesome, or at least it would be if nobody died from it. Maybe if the intervening steps could be cut out so the Moon just becomes a ring system, then that'd be epic.

Also the moon is responsible for the stability of Earth's rotational axis . I'm pretty sure a ring would no longer do that and mess up the seasons over the long run. Don't quote me on that though XD.

By the way people pay them on Patreon for a personal bird to show up on a video and even more for it to die, so don't worry too much for them, they likely did so willingly for science (or at least science communication).

Okay, first things first: 1. 7:14 Kurzgesagt is pronounced "KOORZ (like in 'school') GA (the English "e" is equally pronounced as the German "i" so the German "a" is just a close approximation. If you want to pronounce the German "e" correct, try to smile like the cat in Alice in Wonderland and open your mouth just wide enough so that you could bite your pinky and then exhale.) SAGT (means nothing more than "said" or "says" in present tence) so you get KOORZ GE SAGT which means "in short terms" or "in a nutshell" (which is the channels name) in German. We don't have a 1:1 phrase for "in a nutshell" we have a seperate word: "Kurzgesagt". (trust me, I am German) Your pronounciation was good, very good :) 2. 3:08 There is no "falling" in space nor is there an "up" or a "down" so in conclusion there is no "sideways" simply because all those terms are relative attributes, there for the moon is only moving "around" earth (like earth is orbiting the sun) same principal. This means it does not matter how the moon is theoretically slowed down, it only will lose "height" relativly to earths surface (even though "height" is also a relative physical attribute ^^) 3. 4:10 The dark side (aka. the earth off faced side or "far side") of the moon isn't that spectacular. It is only interesting because we can't see it from earths surface. The moon doesn't spin around itselfe. It is "tideally locked" that would be a phrase to describe it (not scintifically accurate) but it simply means "you alwas face the same side towards the same stellar body" if the link is allowed but basically THAT first Wikipedia picture is how the "dark side" looks: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Far_side_of_the_Moon Fun fact: "Dark side of the moon" is also a Pink Floyd album and a book written by German author Martin Sutter about drug abuse. 4. 5:03 I guess "Moonfall" by Roland Emmerich, is the titel of the movie you were thinking off. 5. 6:10 you simply can not flood the entire earths surface. There is not enough water and the surface texture (hills, mountains, valleys, canyons etc.) is not homogeneous enough... sooo: no global flooding... sorry :) (this is also a fact based argument against the biblical flooding plus Noah's ark would've never fit all those animals...) aaanyway...: 6. 7:44 flying would be highly unlikely due to th beginning lack of a functioning GNSS (global navigation satellite system, yes: there are more systems than GPS which is only the US American version) and we would not have enough planes to supply the demand of literally anything, just because planes do not have enough space compared to ships (carry weight) and we would run into a plane fuel shortage due to the upcomming geological activity. And yes even at that stage ~7:00 of the "moon fall" there would be disruption. 7. I do not know enough about farming to say anything about farming -the river thing (them flowing backwards) is correct though. 8. 11:53 terraforming is artifical/ human made so no it wouldn't be "terraforming" it would be the formation of new landmass (terra; latin for "land" or "earth" not the planet but earth = dirt) so new "terra" so you could argue "it is natural terraforming" though it is not called that way :) 9. 14:44 I do not have to explain the Roche Limit or Roche Border just that: there are certain "points of no return" in science, that should not be or can't be over/under stepped like the Schwarzschild Radius or the Planck Length and other calculatable borders, sometimes so called "converges". 10. 15:55 It is very unlikely to survive this scenario at all. Even shipping is highliy unlikely/is impossible because boats, ships, submarines are not designed to navigate such extreme tidal forces. The magical words here are "Angle of list" the "how much is my boat allowed to be tilted before bad, irreversable things happen and everything goes boom boom". hope I could help and have a nice day. greetings from Germany
