I absolutely love your new kitchen! I would knock out the walls surrounding the fireplace in the baby kitchen, leaving the fireplace intact, exposing the brick fireplace in the middle. And make a beautiful mega mama double livingroom with two or three sitting areas all around the center exposed brick fireplace. Then continue with the downstairs bedrooms/family room/ laundry room idea. I say this as a homeschooling mom of 12 children -10 still at home. We have a 14×50 mega kitchen, and a 14x35 livingroom. I absolutely love having a large livingroom. I prefer having large gathering rooms over extra bedroom space. The children won't live at home forever and having large gathering rooms encourage the adult children to feel like they can come home and visit with their families without feeling cramped. We do not ever visit our mothers or grandparents homes because their living areas of their older homes just cannot accommodate our family. We can't all fit into their livingrooms, and their kitchens have tables for 4 or 6. I have a 20 ft long table ( two 10ft tables) in my kitchen and three couches and 4 large chairs in my livingroom. I want my kids to always want to come home for Sunday dinners, and holidays. I don't ever want them to feel unwelcome due to space constraints. We also have a finished walkout basement with 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, and a family room, so I can relate as well to having a 60's home that needed updating. Our house was built in 1964. I have to add as well that the large gathering rooms are awesome for homeschooling, we just do our school work wherever we are comfortable, sometimes all over the livingroom, sometimes spread out all the way down our table. And we too have books all over our house, I have 4 bookcases in our kitchen🤣. ** I have loved all of these long chatty videos. As a large family homeschooling mom I don't get a lot of mama socializing and I truly enjoy listening to your videos (your rodeo lol ;) ) while I fold clothes, cook or do dishes. You are a blessing mama!

You’re my favorite 😍!! Thank you for sharing your ideas and your living space in your 1964 large family house. Helps me feel normal 🥰. I took a screenshot of your comment to be sure to share it with Travis as we’re figuring things out. You are right, family visiting space definitely feels like a priority. I definitely want everyone to always feel like they can come home and bring their families to visit as well. The blessing!❤️❤️❤️

This is just what I did, for living room found 2 sofa's same brand, same shape at resale, cleaned them really well then made fitted slipcovers out of cotton denim ticking pattern , cream color with off blue pattern. It was a God send, just throw them in large washer and hang to dry. 2 big sofas are such better uses of space. Then 4 armchairs around a round coffee table. Great for talking space or Bible study. Not a lot of money, great impact. Blessings forward.

You could always get a large screen divider that could lean on one wall when not in use , & that could easily be used for privacy with a foldout couch or those fancy fold down out of wall beds ( Murphy bed)if used for overnight guest or two.
@MsDianaJean2 жыл бұрын
Piggy backing off the main comment, you could compromise and add a small bedroom using part of the space where the living room currently is and use the rest as part of your mega living room/gathering space (with the exposed double fireplaces in the center) for your family now and doubled/tripled family size when they're adults. Bonus, then your beautiful bay window in the living room still makes sense, since it's still a living room.

We lived in an old 1950’s house when I was young and one of the best things it had was a laundry chute/dumb waiter. It was a game changer for our laundry room! Everything fell down to the basement laundry room and then we could send the clean baskets back upstairs on the dumbwaiter. It had some kind of weighted pulley system so you just had to fort of wind it up and then give the string a big pull and it went upstairs. Very cool. Would it be possible to clean out the fireplace chimney and repurpose that space as a laundry chute and dumb waiter? Then you can build your laundry room around that space.

We went with Behr Silver Drop ... it's a very light yet warm gray color and looks amazing next to white cabinets. Its also a color that will match pretty much accent color(s) you choose. I like a color that will match with various holiday decor through the year as well as brights for summer and pastels for spring. The rest of our house had been repainted white a couple years ago, but once we're ready to do again I am going to do the Silver Drop throughout. It works well with brown/natural floors as well as gray flooring (which we have). Your new kitchen is absolutely fabulous.

The kids went to regular school but that was always a place to gather after school, for homework and later on, dinner. A lot of time was spent in that kitchen. It is totally worth it. And later on grandkids (because we all gathered there) used the set-up.

Hey jamerill, u should look into putting ur house into solar power, I just did my house n my state is giving out big rebates to put it in ur house to where it really. Don’t cost you anything for equipment n installation too, I only paid $250, and already earned that back from my electric bill which was for a half of the month cos it just got installed, the government is also giving out checks to put in solar power to the tune of 8500$, granted a small portion of that goes to the manufacturer of the equipment, but my power bill was only $30, this month, I have a 3 bdrm house. Normally my bill was over $300. So it’s worth looking into, plus the fact u did don’t have to rely on the power company anymore. 💖💖💖💖💖💖

Keep the big freezers in the basement, have a smallish laundry upstairs though, it makes life easier. Having 2 sinks is fantastic, I don't understand why people would question that. Your wall of cabinets is fantastic, storage is amazing and you can always find something to store and falls short in most homes. I love the birds hanging over your sink !! 💖. Having a big living room and knocking the wall out where your old kitchen is, is a great idea I think !! Maybe keep all walls white till you've done renovations upstairs to decide on a colour. you can then see what furniture you have/get and blend it with that.

After knowing prices are sky rocketing, I would love to have more freezers, but with my space not really need to add more. But I do have one large stand up and two fridge freezers... and during the pandemic, I was gifted a large slide top double stacker level li,e you find in the grocery stores..such a Blessing...we have pecan trees and just couldn’t get them cracked....so freeze in the shell up to 2 years....freezers are a Blessing.

I’m so excited for you and the next adventures you’ll share with us. You’ve shown us how we can feed many with the most simple ingredients and to bend and sway with the winds of life as they blow through. Thank you!!!

Your kitchen is fabulous! When I homeschooled, I always did it at our kitchen table. Yes, we had plenty of room in other areas of our home, but the kitchen is the heart of our home and schooling just felt natural to us there. We have a very large kitchen, almost all windows, no curtains or blinds. I want as much natural light as possible. Of course we live rural and surrounded by woods also.

I like a pale yellow. We painted my moms kitchen a pale light yellow and it really brightened it up. We went with light colors in every room, tan, yellow and green. But with one I would go with yellow or tan. I love white also.

First off I absolutely love your pretty blouse and it's suits you so well both in style and colours, really beautiful! As for the paint colour, I'd hate to see any other colour other than white on the walls in the kitchen. The light you have there is spectacular but it's partly due to the white on the walls too. It's such a calming and peaceful look, I personally wouldn't change it. I'm stuck with a very awkward small dark kitchen, I'm living vicariously through you as you work in your beautiful kitchen!

Now I want a new kitchen! I like all the white in your kitchen, gives it that modern farmhouse look, I like the white walls. The white really sets off the stain glass & all the art work. Maybe a colorful couch will add a “POP” as they say.

Oh I wanted to add too(posted the other comment too soon🤣) that the wall of cabinets is fantastic! I wish I would have thought of that when we built! Bookshelves would have been nice but I imagine hard to keep dusted and clean with all the stuff that floats in the air with lots of cooking in a kitchen. Wise choice!

Jamerrill…OMG. We built our house new back in 1975 for $26,000. That included the furniture, window covering and 1/2beef. I can not believe how much costs have gone up. The only think I can compare is that my fridge is nota mega momma fridge, cost $3400 5 years ago. So there you go. Glad I built in 1975. Hope you enjoy your new kitchen. You have certainly earned it.💕💕
