The one thing I most agree with is men should put themselves on child support. I've been giving that advice for years. I gave my child's father ample opportunity to help support what we created. After he showed he wouldn't be consistent, I put him on paper. Children add to the expenses in the household in many ways. A person shouldn't have to wait to see if you feel like making your financial contribution a priority that week or that month. We settled on a reasonable amount that was less than what the judge ordered. I'm not greedy, I just need the CONSISTENT help. Children need something every single day.... And I refuse to let the government play daddy (welfare and such) when the child's father is alive and well. Much love, just pay your part.

“Put yourself on child support” is bad advice. In my state (Arkansas) the state doesnt care. You are the “payor” and she is the “payee” regardless who opens the case. It has no bearing on custody or visitation. Unmarried mothers get full custody and your child support is the same regardless of the time you have the child.

Imagine being that man that stepped into a woman's life with children before you and laying down boundaries and telling her that her kids' "child-support money is for you and your children, not for us and our living." Imagine trying to teach her sons how to be a man, learning how to do yard work, make repairs on a vehicle, etc. The child's Father spreads and brags about how he pays for your house (through child support and whatever unknown expenses between him and the child's mother) Only to be met with conflict because the child didn't like doing any of these things because of only one reason, you're not their Father. Okay, cool, so then you step back and not engage as much because you realize the mother keeps coddling the boy instead of giving them the life skills that they need as boys to grow into men. Now, these identical boys are irresponsible, entitled, and expect the world to bow to them. When their actual father sees how they turned out, he thinks they've turned into sissys from being around his baby mother's "beta male." In reality, his baby mother turned them into sissies... That step Father decided to up and leave the relationship because he's not feeling respected in his own house and has finally realized the many errors in the Mother' ways. I say all of this to say this- the problem was never the stepfather in this situation; the root problem was the mother due to poor parenting, poor money management skills, defamation of other people and their character, and, of course- deceit.
