I raised a baby coon up until he was an adult. He was by far the coolest animal I've ever been around. He was so smart. He loved Girl scout shortbread cookies. He would go completely nuts for them. Once he got older and the females caught his attention it was over. He got a little mean so we took him to the national park and let him go. It was time. I did my part by giving him a shot at life. Now it was on him to live his life as a free raccoon. I never worried about him because he was huge and very smart. He was the biggest coon I've ever seen. Probably all those cookies. LOL.

@Matthew James Or killed by a Park Ranger with a "kill order". A pack of Racoons came out in the middle of winter bothering/begging in Kings Canyon National Park Grant Grove area. Park Ranger couldn't wait for his "kill order" to shoot them. He did. So much for caring for the Park animals. I'm a hunter/fisherman and was a little disturbed by the sociopathic behavior of the Ranger.

Raccoons have been visiting our house for 37 yrs. They have never attacked my cats. Like most animals (us too), they'd rather avoid confrontations than fight. They will defend themselves but would rather run. They argue with each other..but it just looks worse than it is. Sure..they will get into a real fight as adult raccoons but again..they'd rather avoid it. Poor lil guys get a bad rap.

Raccoons are incredibly smart, and they practically have hands. It would probably only take 5 generations of careful selective breeding and the entire world would start valuing these critters as a sensible pet option. Foxes too also could make great pets. There's a little bit of unruly wildness in them, like aggression and excessive marking of their territory. But with training and breeding focused on raccoons with ideal temperaments, it shouldn't be long until a majority of humans will realize just how lovable and special these creatures are

I love raccoons. They have figured out how to live in urban environments. You have to admire them. I rescued an adult one once. Took her to a sanctuary so she could heal, and then they brought her back and we released her. The sound she made when she left the cage was unearthly. And who knows, but she seemed like she wanted me to help her. She kept showing up and lying down on some outdoor steps. Bless you for taking care of them ❤
