Baby Seal Rescued From Deep Cut

The rescuers from OCN had a busy morning at Pelican Point. Wally was still wearing a sleeve to support his arm from the recent humpback whale rescue as a precaution, he is much better already.
They spot an entangled seal close to the water. While the Denzil secures this seal in the net, Wally spots another one, but he is too big for today as the rescuers have only one big net available. Kat finds the next entangled seal close to the water and Denzil uses the baby net to catch it - and Wally manages to catch a third entangled seal!
One of the rescued seals was very deeply cut by fishing line. The plastic was removed and the salt water will hopefully support the healing process. Deep entanglements like this one are often caused by thin fishing line and they are hard to spot unless the injury is visible.
Only two of the seals were new rescues, one was a recapture, which shows us that many of our rescues survive. 🦭

We all have to think this way all the time. Whenever you throw something on the ground it will end up in our oceans lakes rivers and sadly our fish and wildlife have to deal with it and it could be a death sentence for them. And people on boats and ships please don’t allow garbage to go into the water as again it is so dangerous

The first seal with the bad injury, looked relieved when the tension was cut from the line. The seal can start recovering from that bad wound. The second seal, nothing but it's always better for a recheck, just to make sure. The third one, gets the strap cut away, and can now go back into the water to start recovering if there's a bad cut also. I'm sure you'll be be able to catch any others, after releasing the first 3. The small nets without the long poles seem to be a really useful addition to your kit, as are the waist pouches. I’ve always wondered about where the trash entanglements should go when multiple seals need help, and those containers look like you could put binoculars in them when running down the beach. Great job helping those 3 young seals.

Wow....busy day at the office today! Those single fishing lines are soooo terrible!!!!!! Imagine how painful with every movement cutting deeper. i cringe when I see the line getting pulled out! i shudder to think how those poor seals suffer so. Luckily the Salt Water Pharmacy is readily available 24-7. I have a friend who fishes here in Rhode island (We are called, "The Ocean State") and she told me that she sees marine life entangled in fishing lines. I never gave that a thought before I came to know OCN. I can't even imagine what untold horror goes on all over the planet. The Seal Whisperers dedication and perseverance is really humbling. These videos are an integral part of my day. i can't throw enough bouquets at their feet.

Mechanix gloves are the best I've found for all around use. I've worked with horses and in garages and they've worked wonders. Obviously they hold up well against Sand and Seals as well

I am so amazed at the compassion and yes love these people have for these creatures. The stark beauty of the Namibian beaches and the courage of the team make the 'every day dailiness" of their efforts even more profound. How the rescuers stay so loving and caring, their gentle handling after the capture, staying even tempered even when bitten (which must be very painful), is testimony to the huge hearts these guys possess. Quite a nasty cut - the first seal caught-up in that entanglement. Severe cuts around it's neck and the fishing wire would have only continued to cut in to the seal if you guys hadn't removed it when you did. Not witnessed a cut like that on one of your captured seals for a while on your channel. Certainly looked painful. Just hope the seal recovers in record time. Great work guys. Thank you for sharing.
