On my first job, I decided that 5 dollars a hour would be a good amount for one kid. But... the little boy I was sitting was sick... like throw up sick. I'm happy about that. It taught me a lot about babysitting, and how you should be prepared for anything. Even if it's a 4 year old boy puking all over your jean jacket. I had another vomit-related situation 2 years later. I was able to handle it very well!

Hi Iris! I think your fees seem really fair since you are just starting out. You might want to start out with only one or two children to get the hang of babysitting. Infants and toddlers (kids 3 and under) can be really tough to babysit. I suggest you start with kiddos 4 or older - just to get the hang of it. Let me know if you have any other questions. Omg this is helpful. How do I convince my MOM I’m not getting payed too much? She thinks I’m just helping out and should be paid not much. Everytime she arranges something, she tells people 9-10 dollars an hour, even for multiples. Like she got onto on of the parents who hired me because he paid me 12.50 an hour. LIKE FULL ON ARGUED WITH THIS GUY OVER IT- My current rate is 12-13 dollars, depending on amount of kids, duration, time of day, etc. my mom thinks babysitting isn’t a real job and I’m over paying and should be “happy with what I get”. Im trained, I did an 8 hour 97$ class (out of my own birthday money) to be certified. She still believes im just doing people favors and should be payed way less.

This is why it is SOOOOOOO important to tell the employer how much you charge per hour before you accept the job and ask them, "Will that be okay?" And if you find yourself at the end of the job and they refuse to give you money, tell your parent and then never accept another babysitting job from them. I hope this helps!

i babysit and charge 9$ per kid per hour. If there are pets I look after then I charge an additional 5$ fee per pet (not per hour) . So that means of there are 3 kids and 2 pets for just 3 hours i would get 91$!!!

It’s not okay for an employer to not pay you. When they ask you to babysit again, tell them your hourly wage and make sure you ask them if that is okay. If they agree to pay you and then refuse, don’t babysit for them again.

That is really tough and it's awesome that you realize that a parent's wages might make it more challenging to set a wage. It's hard for me to say since I don't have a lot of details, but charge what you think is fair and have an honest conversation with the employer about how much you charge. If you feel like you might charge less, but you like the family and you want to help, that is fine. If you feel like you're being taken advantage of, that's not okay.

Are you okay with that? If you are, it's okay. If you feel like she is taking advantage of your babysitting services, it's not okay. Talk to your parents about how to handle the situation. Your mom will help!
