This can translate into the child’s adulthood in the form of being closed off, hesitant to be be vulnerable, not letting anybody in etc. This prevents Matt from advancing his romantic relations because relationships require intimacy in the form of vulnerability to create an emotional connections. Obviously he hasn’t healed bc this is all we’ve been seeing through the season, no vulnerability.

Ironically, she was the only other person besides Rachel, that he told he was falling in love with.

Sad situation for them both. Seems pretty clear that he wasn't ready for a real commitment though. Relationships are tough and sometimes the past resurfaces. She isn't a different person than the one he said he fell in love with though and it's disappointing that he isn't by her side helping her grow through it - being an example of grace, forgiveness, and unity.

Where there is real love there is forgiveness and working through the problems together. He even said he wasn't going to be responsible for her tears. Words of a true commitment phobic.
