Thanks for the advice and instructions. I only recently started hanging from the crossbar and rings and found that my shoulders improved each day which I think is amazing for 61 year old. Next is the back lever I will give that a go tonight, great tips thanks again.

Awesome work! Sounds like you've made a great start... 61 is still young compared to Graham our oldest student at 70 years old!!! If you have any questions once you've had a go just let us know - Jacko

Thanks for all your videos! I have two questions if you don't mind: 1- I can do knee raises, plank for more than 2 min, hollow hold for 30sec maybe more but only a 7 sec l sit on parallettes and only on my very best days. So, what could be wrong? Do I need more core strength? My scapular depressiom is good! 2- Also. I can do horizontal raws easily but can't enter the tuck front lever (I can do 6 or 7 pull ups)? Any adivce or recommended exercises?

Do you protract or retract the scapula while in the back lever? Protracted scapula feels more stable for me.

I’m finding it hard to perform the skin the cat without using the legs excessively to kick up, any tips?

In part 2 next week we'll look at using the band effectively which you can try as well as practising the lower using the eccentric tool to control the movement downwards and use the lower to build strength for the concentric over time. That make sense? Locker tools and how to use them effectively all explained in full in our training guides, have you got any? Jacko

School of Calisthenics thanks for your reply el Jacko, I don’t have any of your guides because I can’t really afford any having just signed up for gymnStic bodies online coaching and booked an ido portal movement workshop, I really love this stuff but it’s breaking my bank atm, I will probably purchase one of your guides in the future though, thanks for the excellent content big guy.

Start the movement with tension from head to toe, but especially in the core and shoulders. If that alone doesn't work, support 1 bent leg on something elevated and use that leg for the push whilst keeping the other one more tight. This movement is more about coordination than anything else. Good luck!

So its safe for your shoulders? I always cringe when i see people go over the half way point in that skin the cat cycle, because it looks like it would rip the shoulders out of their joints?! But if you guys say its safe i might have the confidence to try this...
@SchoolofCalisthenics

The shoulder has 360 degree of motion... or at least should! If you're shoulders are super tight then it can feel uncomfortable when you first start so its important that you release the shoulders with some self massage and mobility work (our movement preparation) listen to your body and build up the range and strength gradually as you get more confident if you've never tried it before. That make sense? Jacko (thanks for the support!)
