Those studs on the rear axle are actually wheel nuts for the inner wheel. And the square drive for them is in the other end of your wheel brace. That long socket tube youre using to undo the wheel nuts, look at the other end, it will have the squre in it to undo the inner wheel nuts. Thats providing youre using the original toyota wheel brace. Need to know incase you get a flat when you're on the road. 👍 👌

Yep you’ll need a square drive socket to remove the inner wheel….. You’ll only need the inners fitted while rolling it around trough the rebuild, less rolling resistance than dual 😉

incorrect. They are indeed a nut overrider that goes over the stud, but they don't need to come off to get the rim off. The rims are Budd style rims and are hub centric. I.E. the rim is located via the hub flange which is a snug fit even when new. Add a decade of rust and galling and you need a BFH and crowbar to free the rim off the hub.

Chassis and engine looks great. Actually, compared to what we see here in Canada, that chassis looked great to start with. It’s nice seeing you learn more about heavy duty mechanics with the Coaster, it’s something I’ve been slowly learning about watching Deboss HD (although I’m a light truck guy, the HD stuff is totally different).

Hi Jeff , The rear wheels come off without undoing the wheel nuts if you remove the hub 14 mm nuts and pull the half shafts out with the drums still attached to the wheels.. This is very handy when you want to do the brakes without having to go through the rig-moral of removing the wheels .. a lot quicker. Good luck 👍 Cheers Geoff ( coaster owner)

These are a Budd style wheel and lug. We have the same on our old International trucks. The rim is most likely hub centric so they're a snug fit even when they're not encrusted in rust and galling. You don't need to remove the studs to get the inners off, the wheel is just frozen on to the hub. Heat and a BFH or crowbar matey.

Jeff those are absolutely lug studs on the inner wheel. Question for you: Why not just lengthen the chassis rails to the wheelbase you need vs chopping all the spring mounts off and rewelding them? Seems like a frame stretch would be pretty straight forward.

There’s another stud inside those wheel nuts. The factory tool that comes in the bus/truck has the square drive in the opposite end of the tool. Maybe try a truck wrecker to get one. Should be same as Dyna’s, Hino’s and probably Isuzu/Mitsubishi’s as well.

Truck mechanic here. Easier to just pull the wheels off with the hub as the drums are attached to hub and you need to remove the hub to see the brakes. The (probably )19mm wheel nuts on the inner wheels are definitely wheel nuts holding the wheel on. Very important to make sure inners are tight.

Cleaning and painting the Coaster chassis went a long way towards what will be! What kind of spider was that you took off? It looked to have several dozen legs! Have you had any luck locating a factory manual for it? I've only seen one in my life and that was a hotel bus in South America- but I'm thinking there should be versions in English. It's got a lot of JDM mandatory equipment on it, so I look forward to you "exploring in the bushes" to find out how to eliminate it all and still start the beast! On using a "race car to pull a truck'; a race cars objective is to get to the finish, sooner than later- your "finish" is the registration and licensing of this Ford to be! Besides, Roxster will need a ride some day, so paying ahead is cool! Mrs. J; every year I wait to see what has been done with Australian wool; the orange sweater wouldn't have been my choice, till you showed it off- it's definitely a color that likes you ! Up the woolies! On Alfarrarri; I have some many things crossed I fell sown the other day and couldn't get up- please MOT let this man go!
