I live on Lake Marion. Been on some good fish at night from the bank. Starting the end of next month through April, the American shad and river herring start showing up and become the #1 bait.

I've seen you fishing here twice. First time at night in a storm. Been fishing that spot for 25years. Guess I should tell you a secret. Get off the beach and go to the chain island that would be to your right if facing water. Past that first break about half the length of the island. Fish the edge of stumpfield by channel or even better go into the stumpfield about a hundred yards. A kayak is the only way to fish in there. 50 pounders are common but the really big ones can be tough to get off the stumps.

I almost commented that I'd be curious if casting for the bait fish was more effective... but clearly you have a system down! Nice job as usual. And of course very nice cats!

The area is called The Hatchery. Its a wildlife management area and is off limits to fishing during morning duck hunts in December. The canal is a rim ditch that used to circle the whole impoundment. The inside dike has collapsed and forms abig log jam. Leaving a truck in the parking lot after dark is high risk.

Yep. Fishing there when the Stripers are schooling with a Zara Spook is awesome. Also fishing out in front of the Dam in the old river channel is great for Striper and Cats. Suspended live herring and cut bait on the bottom. I actually caught a 60lb Blue cat at 20ft on a live herring while fishing for Striper.

Not sure why you said you can't use Herring. Been using live and cut herring in Santee lakes for all of my life since 1970. FYSA you can catch Herring at the dam at the lower lake using a cast net or Sabiki rigs. Also you can buy them at the bait house at Atkins landing.

Love the videos! Have you ever tried a Berkeley ripple shad for fishing for bait? Fantastic baits, come in small sizes, and I’ve caught 30+ fish on a single bait without it coming off the hook. Great for multi species fishing!
@jakeyjake52583 жыл бұрын
I swear by gulp minows small 2 in 3 in and 4 in they work well. Except i hook em different i hook em through the chin and out the head makes for a good diving action and swirl we catch everything on em

Could you use a float to keep your baits off bottom using that technique? And I bet you have a video on it but how do you tie two jigs?

You could use a float. I don't have a video on how I tie the jigs but I will try to remember to demonstrate it when I do another bait video in the future.

Bait fishing videos might not be your biggest hit, but all fisherman should know that as long as it is not a broomstick you are using, bait fishing can be just as fun as monsters! You have me thinking now... Its cold in MD. Maybe a trip south for fun?

I basically just do an overhand knot about 3 to 4 times. I'll try to remember to do it on a livestream so you can see me tie it. It will be easier to demonstrate than explain.

Check out our kayak catfishing masterclass. You will be able to find spots on your own on any body of water.
I know I'm weird but I loved it when he said "That better not be the chicken" I have been in so many situations where someone brought the completely wrong equipment or bait and they destroy the fish and I just don't get it sometimes.
