While I do love my GPX Gen1 as my absolute endgame mouse (I actually cannot perform at my best using any other mouse), I am also seeing the lack of creativity in the gaming mouse market. Something I really liked though about my Xtrfy M42 mouse is the removable back hump. I think mouse companies should start adopting this format and give more options for shapes by having easily swappable parts. It also would be interesting to experiment with weirder mouse shapes like the Gwolves HSK Pro, which has no back hump. As for the GPX skates, I personally can't quite say anymore that it's good enough. I feel like you'd be doing yourself a disservice by not swapping them with at least standard corepads or tiger ice skates. Your point about mousepads now having a bigger impact on your performance is definitely true especially when considering different mouse skate to mousepad combinations. I'd love to hear your opinions on some of Artisan's faster mousepads, like the Raiden and Shidenkai.

~9x18 hands I'm currently using an MZ1 with a modded in thumb "sniper button". I love the GPW ambi button layout. I rewired and moved the underside DPI button to a sniper button, and used the right front side button for in game actions/abilities. (The Finals grab button) I don't get the GPX. It's supposed to be a safe. But it's way to rounded and way to wide that it feels really awkward to use. I even have troubles with the X2V2/X2A being to wide. The GPX is "heavy" for me. I got my OG GPW to 48 grams. :p I absolutely notice the jump even from 30-20. The jump from 40-20 is blatant IMO. Most games work fine on 8K. 🤔 Tho some don't. The difference between 540 and 360 is pretty decent. Not everything is about latency : )

Computer mice are a mature technology. So long as a mouse is essentially a slab/potato with buttons, The best we will get is iteration. Real evolution will happen when we rethink what a mouse is. A couple of sensors that map the hand or tip of a stylus in 3d space would be cool.

Struth Gaming is another channel looking into shapes and inputs for aiming, and I would recommend trying out his angled mouse grips if you haven't before. I have found sensor positioning is crucial for the mouse to feel correct. I am sure that's why you perform better on the GPX even tho the shape is worse than the Harpe. The Harpe sensor sits a tiny bit too low. Or else I would main it. But I'm also stuck with the GPX, because of the perfect sensor placement. Edit: Most shapes are really horrible too. You need a mix of things that helps you stabilize your grip, most mice have some of them, but lack others that makes them really uncomfortable in the end. I think you need slightly different shaped mice depending on what grip you want to use, but you can also make a good mouse for most grips, that doesn't suck for all of them, like the GPX. I wish I had the money and know how to design a mouse from the ground up, after years of nerding out analyzing shapes etc I have several shapes in mind that I'm sure people would like.

It's a lot of trial and error to find the right shape. I finally settled on HTS+ after a lot of asking "how would I make my current mouse better for me?". I can't think of a single thing I could improve about the mouse besides stealing EndgameGear's coating. I agree that brute forcing raw performance isn't the way forward for input. I think something like a trackIR+eyetracker combo or some sort of VR single hand tracker style controller would obsolete mice completely. I think progress can be made from VR since they can really experiment and refine 3D tracking input devices that could be adapted to non-VR games

Maybe you should reach out to Xander, over at Vaxee now. Dude's made some of the most influential mouse shapes ever, so he has to have gotten some things right. I also unironically think desk height and chair ergonomics have a bigger impact in longer sessions. We waggle and regrip our mouse all the time, between rounds/deaths, relieving tension in doing so. But think about the weight our spine/muscles need to support and maintain when being stationary for so long. The further up we go, the more nerves add up as you work your way through the shoulder, arm, hand, and eventually the mouse sensor.

Well, there's the Pwnage with the Stormbreaker that let you change the sensor's position but I don't think we can call it a big jump; it's like most of mice companies are going just to reduce weight and call it a day, shapes are getting closer each other and new companies don't even try to create something "different". I remember Roccat doing something different with the Kone Pro Air, just a thumb rest, but it was a try you know, but if I see new companies like Lamzu, appeared out of nowhere, all I see is the same old shapes: Thorn is a simple ergo mouse, Maya is a potato shape most likely, Atlantis is a XM1r most likely, I mean, I would like to try something innovative too. It's like Logitech broke the market ahah Glad to see you back!

Last time I upgraded my mouse it did really feel like a big generational leap. That was from the g403 to the dav3 wired. The dav3 just feels so much more responsive and smooth. And it's not just the weight, i reduced the weight of my g403 in an attempt to make it feel as good as the dav3 but it just feels so much worse and I aim worse with it, too despite prefering the shape for a long time. But yeah the gpx to gpx 2 doesn't seem like a big step at least on paper, I haven't tried either. It really shows how ahead of it's time the gpx 1 was. Mousepads on the other hand have gotten kinda boring to me because I already tried most types of mousepads and most mousepads are just clones of existing ones. Also I found out that I prefer glass over cloth. Glass is just so much more convinient and consistent, you just wipe it down and the pad is exactly the same as the day you bought it. But I do love experimenting with mouse feet. You can for example turn a skypad into a control pad if you use a higher friction plastic for the glides like PVC. And some skates are completely smooth while others have some feedback in the form of sound and vibrations. At first i prefered smooth skates like core pads because they feel nice and are very quiet but after trying the obsidian dots for a while now which are a bit harder and rougher i prefer them because I can feel and hear how fast I move my mouse and even though that's kinda unpleasant it actually really helps me with aiming.

In terms of your plateau comments, I 100% agree. While it's a fun hobby to be in and try new products if you have the funds to do so... In terms of actual improvements to mice it's negligible at this point. We have 8k , we have 35g mice, we have carbon fiber and magnesium... There really isn't any avenue to make a big leap with a mouse. Shape is king tho and I wholly recommend anyone slightly serious about fps gameplay to not just buy a GPX and take some time to experiment with other shapes. It'll net you far better returns than anything. Maybe the GPX is an endgame shape for you, that's ok. But take the chance to experiment first. One last point on the plateau. Their are companies experimenting with weird shapes and custom molds etc. but again this goes back to shape being the deciding factor not the tech inside anymore.

It might be the best for you, but the superlight gave me RSI due to lack of support on the index finger and stiff clicks. It also has squishy side buttons and performed worse than my new main. Your hand size and grip play a huge role in the right mouse for you. I play relaxed claw and personally I perform better with an ergo zowie type shape.

I have been saying for a while that the mouse market needs more experimental shapes, currently theres rarely ever a mouse that isnt a complete clone/ heavily inspired by an already made shape. I enjoy alot of features of certain shapes but they never are combined for some reason, it leaves me wanting more out of a mouse even though they are "completely fine". The lack of varience makes it so theres not really a point in trying shapes, because once you tried the around four shapes (typically inspired by zowie series shapes) you have tried all mice, I own like 23 mice and out of all of them the only unique ones are ftip mice, because they are playing with the formfactor and honestly take away a part of the mouse that isnt always needed (the hump), I think that there should be a push to shorter shapes, kinda like how keyboards are , 85%,75%,65% shaped mice or something like that, I can believe you can still have a palm/claw oriented shape with less of a mouse, and with the smaller form factor you can really push out a truly innovative shape. Also, as someone who frequently uses drawing tablet for art and photoshop, i don't really think it would be that comfortable using the pen for more than a couple hours at a time, i think that the mouse beats it when it comes to ergonomics, maybe a bridge between the dexterity that using a pen gives and the comfortablity of a mouse may be a better input. I often think people sleep on mouse skates as well as mousepads, a 87g mouse with a good set of skates on a pad that complements that can feel better than a 37g mouse with a bad set of skates and pad that doesnt work well with it. I think the push toward using other things as skates is nice, ptfe isnt the final thing i dont think, glass, ceramic,sapphire,plastic,cloth,metal, nylon, and what ever other materials can be usable and provide a completely new experience while using a mouse, the mouse skate pairing 100% depends on what mousepad you are using though. Overall, there is innovation missing in alot of fields regarding perphirals.

No latency low dpi would be a nice jump, like 400dpi with the latency of 1600dpi
@Katze822228
@Katze822228 7 ай бұрын
That would literally be impossible lol If you tell the mouse to only register movemet every 1/400 inch (which is what 400 DPI does) there will always be a higher delay between updates than if you tell the mouse to register movement more often (which is what higher DPI would do). Anything else would be logically impossible. What you're asking for is high DPI but labeled as low DPI. And in case you want the feel of low DPI for 2D cursor movements and high DPI for 3D crosshair movements (so that the mouse needs to travel less distance to send a position update which results in lower latency) you can achive that easily. You just have to set a lower windows sens, a lower ingame sens and a higher DPI. If you set windows sens to 1/4 and use 1600 DPI with 1/4x ingame sens it'll feel like 400 DPI on the desktop an in game menus but you'll get the benefit of lower time between position updates and higher smoothness from 1600 DPI.
