Hi Guys,
A watch collector who watches the channel allowed me to explore his amazing watch collection. One piece that really stood out was his Patek Philippe Nautilus ref. 5712. The Nautilus is a grail watch of mine, this thing is amazing! And craps all over Rolex, but then it is 5-6 times the price!
Let me know what you think.

On my last trip to London on the train, a guy got on at Stockport and sat across the aisle from me. I noticed his Nautilus and said he had a nice watch. He took it off and handed it to me to check out, it turned out to be a forty year anniversary 5976/1G in platinum with diamonds as hour markers. It put my Daytona 116520 to shame. Patek owners seem to be very nice, approachable people.

Sorry, it wasn't platinum but white gold. It felt as heavy as Platinum.

The reason they can be approachable is that only another watch enthusiast would recognize his watch. A sport Rolex is much more recognizable and easier to fence by criminals so the Rolex owner has to be a bit more careful.

This was the watch that got me into this expensive hobby. It is really cool looking watch and absolutely beautiful in metal, people who criticize the dial layout need to see it in person before judging. The movement is absolutely amazing and that micro rotor is so charming. The only flaw is the clasp and the bezel being scratch magnet. Thanks for the video

This is my favorite nautilis. Mostly for the lack of symmetry. It's quirky and different, but it's not boring, and that's why I love it. Now granted this might be one that I admire from afar and if I ever get a hold of it in the metal, it may change my mind. But for now.... Ill keep dreaming, and love it.

Thanks for the review....I have owned a 5712 for just over 5 years. Awesome piece and I wholeheartedly agree with your comments other than those on the clasp. Delicate....yes, weak....hell no!! Of all my watch collection...APs FPJs, Rolex, Blancpain and VC, the finish on my nautilus has stood up better to scratches than all the rest (bar the bathyscaphe ceramic). Nice to see the 5712 getting some love.

Ultimately, I reached the conclusion if I can afford a $30k+ watch then I deserve to treat myself to the finer things lol. Also, I really like how this hands-on session was filmed with the lighting and blacked out background to focus only on the watch.

I know this video is a bit old but I’m just enjoying going through your videos as I just entered into the watch world a few months ago and discovered your channel. You mentioned that the PP stamp/seal shouldn’t be there as it isn’t necessary. Patek logo is already there and Patek wouldn’t sell a watch with a movement that doesn’t comply with their standards. However, is it not the same as the superlative label on all Rolex dials? I think they’re doing it (as Rolex is too) to differentiate the old movements from Patek/Rolex that didn’t comply with Patek/Rolex current standards. I’m just starting to get into watches but it feels it could be a good reason for the PP stamp/seal. BTW: love your channel and how you communicate your passion and information about watches. Thank you. Sorry for my English, I’m still learning.

I am so thankful that Patek doesn't appeal to me. The Nautilus aesthetics wouldn't interest me at $1,000, but at $20k-$40k, a water-themed "sports" watch with only 60m WR is ridiculous. Add in an embarrassingly pathetic 2 year warranty, the same as low end watches, and I find nothing to recommend Pathetic Philippe.

1. That watch goes for about $70,000 on the market. 2. You can't get on a waiting list for it in America, unless you already have an existing relationship with the authorized retailer. Don't believe me? Try calling a retailer.

@@RichBuddy Luckily, I'm in extremely tight with my dealer and they expect to deliver my 5712 by this summer...and I just asked for it about a month ago. Then again, you wouldn't believe how much money I have spent on Rolex with them and how fast they have delivered the hardest to get watches to me. There's almost always a way for them to direct a watch a certain direction--at the expense of another, if needed--a lot faster than you would think. By the way, they said they could get me an Aquanaut even faster.

Great detailed review once again. They moved on from Geneve seal because they feel some “lower” quality watches like Cartier was able to attain the seal. And they don’t want to be accompanied by Cartier. Omega Meta is 0/+4 i think, not -2/+2. Regarding the clasp, they don’t have that much choice to be honest. Maybe other option would be push button butterfly clasp but that would be harder to make it this thin and elegance. The ball bearing is very hard to open on my dad’s example too. So it’s not feel like coming off. It’s even annoyingly tight that my dad always complain when he wear it on special occasions. (It’s 5711R though, not sure if the steel clasp are this tight too)

I know that I am in the majority of the population in that I will never be able to afford a Nautilus of any kind. That being said I am in the minority in saying that there is no amount of money or any situation that would make me buy one. I find the Nautilus line to be horrendously ugly. They look like they are bad props from an episode of Lost in Space. I can appreciate the engineering that goes into the movement but as for the design...that’s a no for me.

Bark and Jack in very simple terms force = mass x acceleration. If accel is constant (ie when you flick your wrist you accel the rotor the same be it micro rotor or full size rotor) then force and mass are proportional. So if you design a micro to weigh the same as the full size rotor the winding force generated will be the same

Thanks Watch Doctor. I bet the 5711 feels great.

@@BarkandJack There has to be some chaps in London who would have a 5711 for u to borrow...Orherwise come over to the US of A :)...Anyway the thinness of the watch makes it light on the wrist unlike any Rolex as u probably felt...The clasp leaves something to desire for but when it closes the bracelet looks uniform...I have the white dial which I like because it's more legible

Not a fan. For me the dial is too fussy, too much going on and looks unbalanced. Agree with you, much prefer the looks and balance of the 5711. £30,000???...If you can find one out there they sell for £60,000+ Shocking mark-up over list. Nice video as always.

Grate Video as always and I love this watch its one of my 3 dream watch, one day.. one day... lol... a true everyday every occasion any outfit watch I agree the display is some how odd and if I hat to chose it would be the 5726 hands down for display balance, maybe in 10 years time depending where I am.. I'll sell my whole collection for one of these. Only contender to this watch would be a Vacheron 4300V/120G B102 or the A.Lange & Sohne Zeitwer Striking 145.029. I also have to say that like any passionate person I saw evolving in to the watch collection world the true collectors become more interested in the history and workings of time peaces than living off the status that some of these make apparently give you. Snobbery exist anywhere loads of money is involved and can be a good thing, is a learning curve on how to select and evaluate products so you become more judgemental on what gets sold at what price point, as long it's not offensive to who can only afford a timex, a Casio, a Longines, an Omega a Rolex and so forth it maintains a separation between levels of prestige. There will always be someone out there with more money, but everyone can achieve better taste and knowledge and from those we can learn.

Is it a sports watch? Come on Adrian the comparison with Rolls Royce actually suits. Comparing with Ferrari the 1st issue is the water resistance it is only 60m!!! The dial is really not anesthetic, I should say it is more a a dress watch because if the thinness. To me the 5711 is much better for Nautilus line. You are really going deep with lots of information. But whatever you say the best sports watch to me is either the Submariner/ Sea Dewller/Deep Sea. Why to pay $40,000 neither a sports watch nor a dress watch.

Not an attractive watch in my opinion. To answer the “is it worth it?” question, I think individuals have to ask what else they could get, watch-wise, for that kind of money. Only when you know what you’re turning down can you make that judgement.

Great watch not particularly robust...take it off before you wash your hands...don’t ever bump it...servicing is very expensive...love GG designed watches...the Ferrari comparison is spot on great car but not something you drive everyday and very finicky...

After owning both the 5712 and 5711. Your comments on the dial being disorganised is really true thou. In contrast the 5711 be it white or blue dial the symmetry of the 5711 is perfect.

I know this is Blasphemy, but I'm so not a Patek fan. With the single exception of the 5524G Pilot Travel Time watch, I find them stuffy, frumpy & thoroughly uninspiring.
