I've tried this before in games and I've always felt like a quick stutter step is way more effective, it also sets up for a mean crossover, or my signature move, crossover to my left then quickly behind the back.

I just seen this move for the first time yesterday, dude was dribbling right got cut off, he pulled it back out, gave the defender the exaggerated skip dribble directly into a right to left crossover and nailed the jumper.

This is actually a hesitation move, and the way this guy is doing it is just horrible, he looks like a clown, and the d would never buy it, unless they were a clown too. You see this would work perfectly in the clowns world.

Steve Nash does this a lot as well, he even turns it into a normal hesi move when the defence starts to know what the skip dribble is doing so they give him too much space and he can hit the jumper

i do this move sometimes, but i didnt know it was called a skip dribble. buuut... when i go right i pause and shift my upper body in a way that makes it look like ima go left then i explode back to my right kinda like a counter crossover but i dont cross over i just use the counter fake with the skip dribble.

You can't pull up with this. If you're skipping you have your legs in front of you and you don't have balance, while you're also too low. The guy at the beginning is very wrong, there are 4 things you can do while dribbling. Change pace, change direction, pass and shoot. The last two are tough if you're skipping. That's why everyone does the hesitation, it raises your center of gravity, allows you to shoot, read the floor and pass, or get back down and get past your defender.
@nicholasx710 жыл бұрын
You can pass and shoot while dribbling can you? How many balls you playin with lmao

Granted, I haven't tried this out yet, but it just seems like you're sacrificing your balance for this move. It seems to me that, once a *smart* defender catches on to the skip dribble, he could force you to turn the ball over by cutting you off and denying you the chance to recover your balance.

it actually seems more efficient in pickup bball like 2v2 on one basket. in 5v5 however if the defense does not fall alseep and rotates well you might end up with a charge or stuck in traffic/double team by recovering defender and helping man etc, right?

nice move. fundamental. i call this a consecutive step move. this footwork is so basic almost everyone has this going to their dominant direction but there are many elite players that do not have this footwork going to their weak side, to their detriment.

It would be pretty hard to call that a travel sin you aren't actually ever holding the ball. As long as your dribble is live and youre not palming it you can prettymuch do whatever you like.
@ReCharredSigh10 жыл бұрын
mouse11011 I think people MIGHT call a travel in pickup if you're hopping very high off the ground while doing the move, thinking it's an up and down, but if you keep your hops very low to the ground I think it should be okay.

Excellent teaching points..a bit contrived on the product plug (nice product concept, though)..Tony has a significant valgus knee bend on the hop indicating a increased potential for ACL injury (keep it slow)..sorry, I always try to intervene when I see the valgus knee thing. I like how Tony has taken the move, broken it down and introduced the variations. Like he said, there are specific situations where these become good options.

Lol! That's an up-down dude! Traveling violation. You might avoid the call the way you are doing it SOMETIMES, but it's not a legal move. Think about it this way. What if you did EXACTLY what you are doing here, except you hopped really high in the air. The only way you could get away with it is if you kept your dribble and landed on the other foot. Otherwise, it's a jump and you have to either pass or shoot before your foot hits the ground.
@michaelcintra279 жыл бұрын
+bigstudwithaguitar you make a good point but think about this as long as you keep your dribble you can jump up and down on both feet forever and it wouldn't be a travel cuz you still maintain your dribble
@bigstudwithaguitar9 жыл бұрын
Michael Cintra Yes, but that isn't what he did. He had the extra step after the jump. Also, if it's considered a jump (rather than a lateral skip or something) it would be considered a terminal move (meaning that neither foot can touch the ground before passing or shooting) Think about your average spot up shooter. What if they decided, "I'm going to go up with my shot, but if I'm about to get swatted, I'm just going to call it 2 steps instead, throw down my dribble and go under." TECHNICALLY, a case could be made (since there's basically no difference between a jump and 2 steps at almost the same time) but I think you would agree first that the ref wouldn't entertain it for a moment and second, the ref SHOULDN'T entertain that.
@michaelcintra279 жыл бұрын
that makes sense i think you're right

@USALibertarian9 жыл бұрын
+bigstudwithaguitar He is dribbling the entire time. I don't see the problem. He is exaggerating the verticality and has to do it slowly so may appear to be carrying, but this would never get called anywhere. If you say "think about him doing the exact same thing, but jumping WAY up into the air" then he is not doing the exact same thing! Yeah, think about him doing the same thing and then mooning the ref in the same deft move. Sure, THAT would be a violation of some kind. It also would be different by definition than what is being demonstrated.
