Funny how we all mentioned that this film would clear $1 billion in the box office easily. After the negative word of mouth, the movie actually had some steep drop with the box office numbers. I thought the movie was okay, but there was too much going on. Had it just been "Batman vs. Superman" and dropped the "Dawn of Justice" bit, it probably would've been a lot better. They tried to do too much by not only establishing Batman and that he's been a vigilante for a long time now (and became more jaded and cruel as a result it seems), but also Wonder Woman and a number of other Justice League characters (as cameos)...hence the "Dawn of Justice" bit. Hell, as a result of there being too much, it seems like there was way too many scene shifts and, unless you were paying attention, it'd be a bit hard to follow. Felt it was kind of slapped together, especially the first half of the movie.

As far as the goon fight where Bats stabs someone, Batman has been known to torture a bit before. He doesn't necessarily kill in cartoon/comic continuity, but he has no problem inflicting lots of pain on people, which is why he is feared by criminals. If not for that, no one would fear him, so the stabbing was a non-issue. I do like how they showed him being noticeably stronger and faster than the average person since Bats/Bruce is supposed to be the pinnacle of human ability. All things being said, I very much agree with Johnny in that the film felt soulless. It really felt like they didn't know what they wanted to do with the film and that showed way too much.

It's really a shame that Freddy vs. Jason was a better vs. movie than this. While definitely not good, at least the setup and the fights made more sense than in this film. Another classic example of Hollywood taking a great idea with a lot of potential and doing next to nothing with it because they know we'll come see it because they think we're idiots. The biggest corporate sellout since Space Jam.

I personally have mixed feelings about the film. I personally think the biggest issue with this movie is it really should have been separated into more movies. I feel some of the subplots really had a lot of potential and could have been better developed if they were their own separate film, such as Superman's place in the world. I think they should have done another solo Superman film first, THEN they should have done a Batman and Superman movie.

What I always find annoying is when people tell me making Superman brooding and depressing is an effort to put a new spin on the mythos and that I just hate change. On a surface level, there's some backbone there, but what this argument ignores is the wider picture that Superman helps fill out. Whatever Superman might've gained from becoming this dreary and joyless in the context of Superman stories is lost with the fact that this extensively only makes Superman more like every other superhero. In context to the DC universe, Superman served to fill a role with his more hopeful, uplifting disposition and in the context of fiction overall, he's refreshing and unique in the sea of self pitying stories that feel too important about themselves to crack a smile. With this current direction, we lose that and Superman just becomes yet another gritty reboot, now devoid of whatever identity the property had and with nothing to fill the gaps left by that, the heart of the issue becomes apparent. I never understood why in the movie Superman gave Batman a hard time for being a vigilante. Has Clark ever actually been in Gotham? I bet one week there and he'd understand why that city needs the bat. Also i was fairly surprised with how violent Bats was in the film. Reminded me of the darker comics which is nice. Sure Bale's portrayal of Batman was the whole Arkham series deal where he doesn't kill he just knocks out but seeing Batman be more vicious and ruthless was a nice change of pace. Its not like I hated the movie but its not something I really plan on seeing twice. The plots extremely predictable and the amount of cliches are hard to not notice but hey who am I to complain? I didnt pay to go see it. I watched it on my computer high as a kite.

I was waiting through the whole opening dream sequence for them to do that thing where the bats cover the screen and it transitions from young bruce to adult bruce. If they did it like that, then maybe I would have bought it 100% as a dream. But the way it was shows made it feel mostly like a direct retelling of the events, until those bats started lifting him.

The only gripe I have is that if it is about batman vs superman, is that if that is the title, then don't add doomsday or anyone else. I don't mind a cameo just don't make THAT the central focus
