@@Gogetta80 Reason? He's a psychotic criminal who's feared by the very mobsters he works with. Napier (and Grissom who's also in that scene saying "Let's go Jack") was a street thug at the time working his way up into the organized crime system rampant in Gotham. It was a mugging that turned into a double homicide when jack (who's a psychotic) pulls out his gun and kills Bruce's parents when they resist. Even Grissom is shocked that he just killed them out right. As far as it being dumb for joker killing his parents, you miss the interconnected arc of both characters. When Napier kills bruce's parents, he also kills bruce. He's batman from that point forward. Jack MADE him into Batman by murdering his parents. Years later, Batman MAKES the Joker by dropping Napier into the toxic waste. These are two characters connected by the fact that neither could exist without the other and could only be possible in a comic book accurate Gotham City, not Chicago.

I love this scene. This is an excellent screenplay and screen writing ... "and don't think that I didn't try". Joker makes the quip "Sometimes I just kill myself" and taunts Batman. The camera then pans to batman who seemingly has a quick second of thinking. The Joker gave Batman the idea to kill him. It makes sense for him to intend to kill. Such great cinematography and execution. Love this movie.

I am not into comics so I am not going to sit here say how accurate who's Joker is. I will tell you why I love Nicholson's Joker, all the little gadgets and props he uses. The death hand buzzer, the flower that shoots acid, the big gun he shoots the batwing down with. But I also love the way he delivers his performace of the Joker, his laugh is hilarious and I love how he laughs at everything. Take this scene for example. Batman beats the shit out him, and then produces a set of fake teeth after he just got thrown through a wall. Batman then accuses him of killing his parents, he then spits out his blood then laughs (which I LOVE the way he laughs here) then calls him Bat-brain as Batman backs him up to the edge. The Joker knows he has no where to go and Batman is full of rage about his parents and this dude has the balls to produces a set of glasses and taunt him one last time with my favorite line of all time " You wouldn't hit a guy with glasses would you? HUH?" I crack up every time I hear that. Nicholson's Joker is FUNNY, he makes me laugh with all the things he does, AND he's terrifying at the same time. Heath Ledger's Joker is does funny things but isn't actually all that funny, but he is also terrifying. Jack Nicholson absolutely nailed his performance as the Joker.

True. Jack Napier/joker could take your average person or gangsters like himself but against Batman, who trained in martial arts his whole life and Batman/Bruce just discovered Jack murdered his parents, he stood no chance in hell. Ledger's joker in TDK was clever enough to use attack Rottweiler dogs and a lead pipe as an equalizer to beat the hell out of Christian Bale's Batman.
@poweroffriendship2.04 жыл бұрын
@@castortroy7704 In other versions, Joker is pretty much good at hand to hand combat unlike Jack Napier, or Joaquin Phoenix. You know he's smart enough to beat Batman, even he's weak. The clown finds a weapon that is harder than a fist. In the 60s Batman TV show, the Joker was pretty good at fighting against Batman in the jewelry store scene.
@castortroy77044 жыл бұрын
@@poweroffriendship2.0 I know. I'm saying Jack/the Joker in this version could hold his own against your average person or street thugs and mob hoods like himself but he was easily a punching bag to Batman. Total one sided beatdown. Heath Ledger's Joker only beat Nolan's Batman down using a crowbar and Rottweiler attack dogs as an equalizer. Joker would've gotten his ass handed to him by Batman in a straight up one on one fight. Yes, Ledger's Joker was far more skilled in hand to hand combat than Nicholson's Joker or Romero's version or Phoenix.
@poweroffriendship2.04 жыл бұрын
@@castortroy7704 Yeah. But it really depends in most of his versions. If you played the games, especially in Injustice or MK vs DC, you know that he's skilled. Even MK11's Joker can beat other opponents using a cane and his fatalities are very hilarious yet grim.

I was five years old when a watched this movie for the first time. Batman comes in, punch Joker in the face as hard as he can and say "I gonna kill you"... The menacing tone only a night creature would have... Only would see something like that again after more than 20 years later when Batman (now played by Ben Affleck) blocked Superman's punch (with a speech you're not brave/men are brave) and started to beat the shit out of him.

I've heard people complain about Ben Affleck's Batman killing people even though Michael Keaton's Batman did the exact same thing. Most of these same people still love him which makes them bloody hypocrites. One of them - Anna from That Star Wars Girl - is someone I actually like but I still called her out for her hypocrisy, though I have no idea whether she acknowledged it (she hasn't replied but maybe she's done some soul searching).

This is still my favorite live action Joker. He just got that blend of clown, psycho and mobster right in my opinion. Every other Joker leans towards one more than the other two, not to say that is wrong by any means, but to me the Joker is the character that can walk into and handle a mob meeting, pull the exploding cigar gag off and reveal that he left the gas on after he left, killing the guy whose house they met at like it was as natural as wiping your feet of mud before going inside.
@risenfromyoutubesashesagai63023 жыл бұрын
I remember being a kid, and thinking "Keaton!?!?! Keaton as Batman!?!? Ugh...." But he actually done a pretty good job! This ending was always iconic... the line about dancing with the devil, and the dizzying heights as the Joker looks to have won, then the gargoyle statue and the helicopter predicament. That part always stuck with me, thinking how much that would suck, being in the Joker's shoes hanging on a ladder with a gargoyle statue weighing him down. Then the little laugh at the end with the Joker's grin was always haunting!!!

I love how the Joker's hair has become a dusty green by this part. Coupled with his desperation (just before he gets the upper hand for a bit), physically and in terms of wit his 'acidic' edge is becoming blunted. There is no better Joker than Nicholson's, partly because of the obvious fact that he's the best at making and using witticisms, and using joke shop-style props . He is believably a gangster turned homicidal artist. He is also great at being the 'sad clown' when everyone has abandoned him - and not a second before. Even without Batman's input, he clearly wouldn't be long for this world, dangling precariously from a rope ladder beneath a helicopter. Caesar Romero, also great, appears to be part of Nicholson's inspiration.

Batman 1989 is an adaptation of the 30s through 40s era of Batman comics (when Bob Kane was the writer and Bill Finger was the artist). Batman Returns is an adaptation of the 70s through 80s era, being extremely dark and grotesque, much like Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns stories or Neal Adams' comic run. Batman Forever is an adaptation of the 50s through 60s era, being light-hearted and goofy but still having room for emotional weight and never missing sight of what makes the characters so dynamic. The Dark Knight trilogy is like the modern era; mixing the darkness of the 40s comics with the grand-scale and emotion of the 60s comics and the complexity of modern comics. Batfleck is.... an enigma, but Ben Affleck is a good actor and carries the role well. Patterson looks promising, a bit Arkham gamesy. And we don't talk about Batman & Robin.
@Amp6612 жыл бұрын
Yes I will talk about Batman and Robin. Clooney sucked and I put Pattinson and Bale in the suck bag too. The difference between Clooney and the others is that Clooneys all around atmosphere was ok, Bale, Pattinson settings were great for modern times,and it was a refreshing touch to see Batman modern. Pity Batman Bale and Batman Pattinson themselves sucked horribly.
@rclark7772 жыл бұрын
@@Amp661 I loved Bale and Pattinson. They nailed the empathy of the character, a thing that even the Burton films, which I love and largely hold above all the others, lacked.
