Check out this 1985 #BMW #K100, which came to us through a friend and loyal follower. He initially bought the bike with plans to transform it into a cafe racer. Although it ran smoothly at first, it sat idle for years, and bad gas eventually ruined the fuel pump, rendering the bike inoperable. He decided to part ways with it and gave us a call.
As you will see in the video, this bike has been brought back to life with a full nut and bolt restoration and finished in a beautiful Sahkir Orange paint job.

I used to think those were the coolest bikes on the market. I don't think the look has aged well. Th R bikes of the time, on the other hand, I thought looked old fashioned and silly. Now I think they're badass.

I believe that the engine should be rebuilt every time they build a cafe racer, of course the cost must be taken into account but that completes the job.

Beautiful. I'm in love with Cafe racer builds with the BMW K100 base. Thinking about that as next project once I finish restoring a Kawa F11. Congratulations. That's a beauty. One question: Is it comfortable to ride? What is your feeling on it?

I have built several of these bikes and I love the way they ride. The clip on bars are low but they are tolerable for awhile If you wanted to do longer trips I would suggest a nice set of low bars instead of clip ons.

Custom one that came with a bunch of parts when I bought the bike. I believe it was purchased from a guy on the K100 Facebook group.

I wonder if it’s possible to position the seat higher? Because the tank and seat proportions looks off.

The k100 frame has a downward sloping angle to the rear. Tuffside did a good job creating the seat mold to match up with the tank. You won’t be able to completely eliminate the tank and seat proportions without completely cutting and fabricating your own frame. It can be done but you will need all of the welding machinery and jig to do it proper and safe.

If it were your bike, you could simply modify the seat with a thicker cushion. Personally, I think it looks great as it is.. I prefer sitting ‘in’ the bike, rather than ‘on’ it! Also provides a lower COG, which equals better handling! To each his/her own! It’s a beautiful motorcycle!

Nice, but I agree with others that seat downward sloap looks "off". Could have modified the frame prior to powder coat to change the angle. Also, what's with the dualsport tires? It's not a scrambler.

where did you find that coolant overflow container? I've been on the hunt for one but they seem to elude me.

It came with the bike when I bought it. The previous owner bought it from a guy in the BMW K100 Facebook group.

BMW should have stuck with that engine instead of that ugly boxer.

There is a reason so many of these bikes are still on the road 40+ years later. If you take care of this engine it will last forever. If you neglect and abuse it then it will still probably last forever haha. Most of the time when these bikes come to me with a problem it is the fuel system causing the issue. Engine is completely fine.
